Let's Use OneNote To Train

In this lesson we'll cover the following:

How To Train Using OneNote

• using the Screen Clipping
• using the Draw Tab
• using the Audio Tab
• using the Video Tab

So let's get started!

Have you ever wondered how the trainers capture a screen to show us what to do, or how they make circles, squares, arrows, writing on a picture, create audios and videos? Well, you're about to find out!

1/ Let's create a New Tab, also known as a New Section, in OneNote. Click on the + Tab at the top of your Notebook and label it Training. You should now have a new tab at the top of your Notebook entitled Training. By the way, you can also change the colours of the tabs, just right-mouse click on the tab and scroll down to Section Colour and choose a different colour.

2/ Once you've created your Training Tab, click on the + Add Page to create your first Training Page in OneNote.

3/ Type in the title of your Training Page and then press the Enter key on your keyboard. This will move the cursor to the body of the page.

4/ Click on the Insert Tab, then click on the Screen Clipping Icon and then select the part of the screen you want to capture for your training.

The screen capture is automatically pasted into your Training Page as seen in the screenshot above. You can resize it and move it to where you want it to be.

5/ Now to point out a specific heading on your screen capture, click on the Draw Tab, then click on the Oval in the Shapes Icon.

6/ Click, hold and place the Oval just above the heading and drag it over the heading to the size you want and then release the hold on the left mouse button. This too, can be resized and moved accordingly.

Note that the size of the pen, the colour and other properties can be adjusted too, just right-mouse click on the drawn oval and as seen in the screenshot above, you can click on Pen Properties and adjust accordingly.

Voila! You have now drawn an Oval over your screen capture!

Now that we know How To Capture and Draw on a Screen Clipping, let's learn How To Create An Audio Clip.

7/ In your Training Page, click on the Insert Tab and then click on the Record Audio Icon. Your Audio Recording will start recording immediately so be sure to start talking as soon as you click on the Record Audio Icon.

To control your Audio and Video Recordings, click on the Audio & Video Recording..Tools Tab that only appears once you've clicked on the Record Audio Icon. This Audio and Video Control Panel is where you will Stop, Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind and a whole lot of other properties for the recordings.

8/ To Create A Video Clip, click on the Insert Tab and then click on the Record Video Icon. Follow the instructions as mentioned in step 7.

Note: The Video Clip defaults to the webcam on a laptop, so know that it will be videoing you if you are looking at the screen. Check the Audio and Video Settings in the Audio and Video Control Panel to see how you can set it up various other ways.
