We're going to be accessing our file space with an FTP client. This is simply an application that you will use to access the web space for your website. I use an FTP Client called Transmit, and if you're a Mac user then I highly recommend it (even if it is a bit pricey).
I'm not going to be using that today though, I'm going to use a free, cross platform application called FileZilla. You can grab yourself a copy here. Fire it up, and we'll be ready to go!
This is the screen you will see when you first open FileZilla:
Don't worry, it's not that scary. Arm yourself with the details you you got from the previous page of the tutorial.
Back in FileZilla, enter your 'host name' into the 'host name' box. This is simply your website's domain. If you're website's domain was 'theveryhungrycaterpillar.com' you would enter that. Mine is wealthyaffiliateworld.com so I enter that.
Fill in the other boxes with the FTP username and password. You can ignore the 'port' box. Press Quickconnect.
Your website will be accessed. It is displayed in the 'Remote' section of FileZilla (the right hand side of the screen). The left side is your computer's files and folders (this makes for easy access between the two).
If you proceed into your folders (httpdocs) you will find the folder we created in the last page of the tutorial. If you haven't created the downloads folder yet you can make one by right clicking on the folder you want to create the new folder in (as shown here:)
To add a new file to the folder I only need to drag it into the folder displayed in FileZilla. I can do this from other folder on my computer. I'm going to drag it in via the desktop but you can use the 'Local site' window of FileZilla as well. Your choice.
And here is the link to that file.
That's the basics of how to upload a file with FTP using Filezilla. On the next page we'll look at a few other things you can do with FTP.
There is a bug report on this problem, but since only premium members can post links (At least allow trials one link a day, just for these kinda situations...), I can't make it any easier for you.
