5. Relevant Advertisers

Another way to make some money with your site is by contacting relevant companies and ask if they would like to advertise on your site. If this is the direction you want to take I would recommend you have some traffic and stats to show your potential advertisers when you contact them.

A plugin that makes all this very easy that I use myself is OIO publisher, it automates the whole process. You can add the ad blocks where you want them, the advertiser clicks on them and can sign up right there and then, payment can be done through Paypal.

If you want to go the easy way you can go through a company like buysellads.com that will connect the two, website owner and advertiser.

Hello Veronica,
Thank you for sharing this article. You said that you can sign up with your on domain for Google adsense and then use that account for your siterubix site as well. I am wondering about the following:
Can you only have one Google Adsense account?
I thought one account for each niche you are dabbling into might be better for tracking purposes. So you know where the money is coming from and can amend the web site...
Or does Google limit the accounts?

Thanks,
George

Hi Veronica,

Thank you so much for this article! So very helpful! There was a part when you were talking about showcasing some Amazon products on your site and mentioned that even if the audience purchases a different product that the one you put on your site, you still get paid. So, as long as they follow the link to Amazon and make a purchase, you still get a commission?

Thanks again!
Reply
researched a solution to a problem in the form of a product then promoted the product and took a commission. The question is "how to create a site substantial enough to get authority to promote high ticket items since its easier to sell 1 $20,000 product then it is to sell 1,000 $20 products. THIS is where I would love some expert advice learned over years by an expert but explained in a way that allows me to grasp it in 1 day ;)
Reply
that's the gist of how u made money with that site but how much did you make with that site and if it was substantial for the work you put in how did you go about reaching enough of yor targeted group to create a substantial gain in commissions?

i am on .4 AMAZON on this lesson and need help, at the end he says "The advantage is as I said before if they purchase anything at all, not even related to your product you still get paid." now how do you get paid if they click your link and scroll around and buy something else than what you are advertising? for example if i was selling teddy bears for Amazon and someone came to my website and followed the link from my website to Amazon to buy the teddy bear and instead bought a tv how would Amazon know to send me the money?

In case someone else is wondering how that works, it's through the cookie process. When someone clicks through from your site to the merchant's site, a cookie is dropped on their computer. When they complete any purchase, that triggers the merchant's pixel to fire, reporting the sale to the affiliate network or merchant, and including your cookie information to credit the sale to you. It all happens on the check-out page which is where all sales funnel through, and it's all done automatically.

I liked the example. It makes perfect sense how you went about it. I'm a little stuck on finding my niche. I was thinking in larger terms of a topic or market, rather than focused on one singular product.

Was your niche that product, which you marketed and then moved on to something completely different and focused on another singular product? Or was that the just first product within that niche or market and you stuck with it?

I like the fact that there are a number of ways to make money from a website or blog. But as you indicated you need to know about getting traffic and how to generate it. That is what I struggle with and that's why I am here. You also offer so much value for money on WA such as a website and a blog that I can create as and when I require them. I am really looking forward to learning and earning an income at last.
Lets get it on!!!

Hey Veronica, I have questions about traffic and monetizing even videos of my video game genius. I have a website and I'm having trouble getting traffic to it for one. Secondly, I want to monetize it and I have joined several sites as an affiliate so as to promote their site on my website. Also, I'm trying to record and post my video gaming to my computer so I upload it to YouTube and Facebook but I've been having trouble with that too because I can't seem to get the computer's webcam to focus on the television where the picture isn't backwards on the video. Please help!

Newbie here... second time thru your lesson package and things are starting to click. There's so much information (and help) here on WA it can and is overwhelming while the same time encouraging. I'm trolling for a niche and woke up this morning thinking about a blog/website about the town I live in... a kind of "today in hometown" information, human interest, trivia, social calendar web site. Info can be about the arts, restaurants and bars, community events, local history (trivia), etc. Trying to understand the best way to monetize a site like this and your examples of relevant advertisers (local establishments of all types) and adsense ads seem logical. It also occurs to me that this niche (if it is a niche) is limited in it's reach (limited by geography) and thus may not be a great choice, even though it has strong interest for me. I would love to hear your opinion on this.
Thanks for the great advise and ideas!

Hi Mark and welcome to Wealthy Affiliate! I believe you can monetize your site. You can build it as a place to come and visit with some beautiful images and videos to invite your audience--they'll be on the next flight to meet you there!
Reply
I can tell you this as the owner of an offline business-- I would LOVE to see someone local build a website where, for instance, I could network with other businesses and offer "combo" deals. As an example--I'd love to see a site where I could partner with a local pizza place and do a joint coupon--1.00 off a bag of kettle corn if the person purchases a pizza.

And if the site also included an app for smartphones, so that people would get offered my coupon on their phone when they purchased from a partnered business, I would be more than willing to pay a decent monthly subscription fee to list my business. There's a company out there that has an app program--ICanget2 (I think that's the name)-- that could be used for such a site.

You would think that in a city the size of Tucson there would be a dozen "buy local" sites of this type, or local review sites, networking sites, etc-- but there aren't. All we have is the hit or miss connections on Craigslist in rants and raves, and the rather pitiful offerings from the old Arizona Daily Star, and one or 2 free publications with badly designed online sections....And nobody is offering anything close to an all around "TUCSON STUFF" site for locals, never mind tourists.

I'd say this is not only a niche, but it's one well worth filling, because it's one that everyone in town can get invested in, and be a part of in one way or another-- and the more people it involves, the more it will grow. Even a very small town can generate a surprising amount of wealth if everyone gets excited.

Chrystalia - thanks for taking the time to write this thoughtful and detailed reply... it'll definitely help guide my decision.
Another thought I've had about this particular niche is that it'll be more time consuming relative to a typical affiliate marketing site that steers visitors to product recommendations (and commissions). I say this because because content will have a shorter shelf life... community events will expire and new events will appear on radar daily, and there'll be a responsibility to keep up. failing to do so will deter repeat visitors and sponsors/advertisers. On the plus side it's really a labor of love and the potential to fill a valuable public service is a strong motivator.
Again, thanks for your meaningful feedback.

I've worked with dozens of local content sites, and there are many ways to monetize them. Look at hotel affiliate programs for guests coming to town. If fishing is popular, add a fishing gear affiliate program, or cycling gear affiliate program, or camping gear. Link to a ticket program for tickets to events either in town or nearby, Perhaps a clothing affiliate program for seasonal wear - jackets in the winter, swimwear in the summer. Some of your content can be evergreen - the basics about the town, the museums, restaurants and other attractions, annual events, favorite unique shops, etc. Your labor of love can definitely be profitable as well.

Veronica,

This was so informative an opened my eyes up to what happens when I use a search engine like Google. I always wondered about the ads that popped up when I was reading an article or a link to go to. this also showed me how it is possible to make some money using these six ways. I took numerous written notes as I was reading this and know I will refer back to them as I build my online business in affiliate marketing. I specifically like the amazon.com as I am an avid user of this site.

I have seen affiliates with that type of site include a "help support us by shopping on our gift guide page", with that page containing a selection of affiliate links. it's a big different than the WA training on how to do things, but if that's your passion, then .....
Reply

Thank you. It's a lot of information to process
I have learned since I became a part of WA I have learned how great it is to get feedback and that anybody who says you'll bemami.g thousands in a week are definitely scamming.
Reply
JeannineC Premium
There are some people who focus on that and do eventually succeed in that goal. Then there are the people who only sell courses claiming to teach you how to do that. Do stay away from those people! The training here is solid.

The other part, though, is that the success can depend on the niche you choose. The niche you are choosing isn't necessarily one where it's easy to make money, but as I said, if that's your passion, then you may be willing to trade the income in order to help others. If money matters more (and that's perfectly okay, cause you have bills to pay too), consider starting with a different niche site, make that profitable, then create a second site to follow your passion.

Thank you so much for the info, but I have the following questions about Adsense Ads and Other Ad Programs section:
1- what does an ad block do and why do I need it?
2- do I have control of the products that show up in my page or sidebar? or by entering the ad code from google, google can promote what ever it wants?
3-does Adsense only work with premium membership?
Thanks!

Hi Josh,

I first suggest you go through the main lessons in the GREEN button first before going into this but I can answer your questions:

1. The ad block let's google show the ads on your site.
2. Not really but you can by telling google what sites (domains) you don't want shown.
3. No, it works with any site, you don't have to be premium, but it needs to be a developed site before you get approved. You should have at least 20 posts on your site before applying with Google Adsense.

Hope this helps,
Grace

Hey Josh,

1) Not sure what you mean by this, no need to have ad block on to take advantage of the adsense program.
2) You have no control other than turning off/on gambling/adult ads. You put HTML code on your site and adsense fills the ad spots with ads of their choosing.
3) Adsense is completely separate from wealthy affiliate (so are all affiliate programs except the one here at WA) meaning you do not have to be a premium member here to join Adsense or affiliate programs related to your niche

Hope this helps

Hello Brok, thank you so much for answering my question and helping me out.
I don't understand the Adsense part where you can join Adsense without premium because in the blog verionca says"If you apply for a new Adsense account you will need your own domain. You can not apply for an Adsense account using a subdomain like siterubix". can you clarify this, please?
one more thing, about the fact that I have no control of the ads that show up on my website: I want to make sure that everything on my website is 100% legit, so how to stop scams from showing up?

Thanks!
Reply
brokwebb Premium
I guess if you want your website hosted here that is a true statement. I was meaning if you already have a website hosted somewhere else you can apply without being a premium member here so sorry about that confusion.

As others have mentioned you can exclude ads from certain sites but to make sure everything is 100% you'd have to wait for ads to show up, check them out, and then exclude them. Really there's not an easy way to only have 100% legitimate sites that you'd recommend when it comes to adsense.

That's why a lot of people skip ads and use affiliate marketing, where you can choose what sites/programs you link to and avoid linking to ones that are crap.

How did Veronica make money with this site?

1. Veronica thought of a product to promote - natural colic product
for infants.

2. Veronica researched the product by visiting various websites,
chats, and forums that discussed colic, which entailed the input
of parents (information gathering). Also, read books from the
library that addressed the topic of colic, in addition to the fact
of having real life experience as a mother of two children
yourself. Based on the collection of data or information from
Veronica's research findings, the data revealed the following.

3. Customer (Target Audience) was a:
a. Woman
b. Mother
c. Age 24 - 35
Leading to the development of an ordinary profile of a customer.

Now, it goes back to the question:

4. "What problem(s) did Veronica solve by offering the natural
colic product to her target audience or customer?
a. Assisted the mother with feeling good because she was
able to resolve her baby's problem.
b. Relief of pain and gas issues for the baby, resulting in a
much cheerful baby.
c. A reduction in stress for the entire family.
d. Increase in sales during the holidays to avoid having a
crying and unhappy baby and in return the family could
enjoy the company of other family members for the holiday.

That's how Veronica made money off the natural colic product.

Well explained Veronica. I enjoyed the read. Thank you.

So far I like what I'm seeing , there so many internet scams its not funny. In fact that is how I found Affiliate, I had received quite a lot emails about starting an online business, because of my research and they all promise the moon, but they were nothing more than just scams to cheat people out of their hard earned money. To make a long story short, one of the emails I got talk about the internet funnel system, so not knowing what that was or even if is was a real thing or a scam I type it in my search engine and article with the Affiliate link explaining that yes the internet funnel system is a scam and I was really interested in starting an online business to click here. So I did and now I am happy to say after months of searching I have believe I have finely found the real thing. Thank you Affiliate.

One way to think of the sequence is that you are the host site.
You host the advertiser on your site. The customer buys from the advertiser on your site and you get a commission as the host marketer to where the customer comes and clicks on the advertisers ad.

Thanks so much for this! As a new member, the whole starting out process can get overwhelming with so much information being pumped through you in a short amount of time.

This overview really helped me to seperate things out and be able to see the bigger picture so thank you :)

Thanks for an article here with lots of meat and paths to even more of a feast. I really enjoyed this and learned a lot from it. I was especially intrigued with your research of your niche and using it to target your audience more closely. I will also certainly look at Amazon as a potential way to promote.

Hi,

I didn't quite understand this part - " If you apply for a new Adsense account you will need your own domain. You can not apply for an Adsense account using a subdomain like siterubix."

I do have my own domain name but the website is made using a template on another platform. I cannot make any changes to the layout, so how can I add the code from google ad sense there?

Thank you for your help

Basically your role is to give people advise about your product. Advise on how to use the product, the benefits of using this product and where to get it.

You need to write this as content through your pages and posts. Then you complement your content with pictures and videos.

Also, go through all lessons here at WA. They give you a step by step guide. Everything will become clearer as you progress.

Best wishes

So what I think is that. We develop a website with connections to a business and if someone buys that item we get a cut of the price of that item. If this is a true statement then, you would want to put as many items as possible on your website.

thats the thing! Lets say you have a podcast about a theme you are passionate about. Let's say "Fantasy Football" or "Japanese carpentry" and you build a close relationship with your listeners over the time, you can use an Amazon button to ask your listeners to support the podcast whenever they have in mind to buy something there, that they use your link. I know a podcast that reached within a year an "influencer status" on Amazon.

Good job on your research. I had a simular problem with my Grandbaby. Her mom did not know what to do. I am lactose intolerant and suggested to my daughter in law that my Granddaughter may be also, well she was and today she is the happiest little girl you could ever see.
Thanks for the research tip.

Ok I am almost internet illiterate lol (ironic I know since I am attempting to do this) but I am confused about the domain part. I honestly don't even understand any part of it. The part I am confused about is lesson 4 adsense ads. . In the bottom lines where it says Note:

A domain name is your web address. (ex: amazon bought that domain name so you type in amazon.com) The siterubix.com is a free website, if amazon did not buy their domain name it would
look like "amazon.siterubix.com". But you can buy a domain name like "AshtonK" or whatever you want your web address to be.

The note part means you have to own your domain name.
Does that help?

I am completely on the same side with you, 0 computer and technology illiterate so this is all new territory for me but I'm kind of excited about the new challenge in life.

The "www. SiteRubix.yourname.com" is yours and free through WA. To get a domain name of your own like www.yourname.com then you have to purchase it through WA. It think it's something around $30 per year... hope this clarifies things a bit... :)

Just a quick note if I may. I personally am keeping an eye on Amazon. Technology and retail parts of the company. They are shaking up the industry big time. They are currently expanding their perishable division and are always looking to do business with entrepreneurs/contractors. I drive a refrigerated truck and over the past 6 months our business with them has increased and they are constantly building additional cold storage warehousees.

Thanks for the info on finding out which companies offer affiliate programs. I often wondered if there was an easier way to discover this and now we know - just type in google your niche + affiliate programs and if there are any companies out there offering an affiliate program you've just found it. That was easy. Thanks!

It's encouraging that this community is active & friendly, as I'm an introvert. I just put my 1st links on my blog. None of them work. The technology is my biggest hurdle. Is a step by step offered, regarding the actual physical mechanics of what to do? Cuz if so, I'm on board. What, how & to whom to promote, I can figure out. It's the tech beating me up!!!

Hi Veronica thanks for sharing some great insights....but just need some clarification on the Amazon products. That is, in order to earn commission from Amazon I can either have my visitors buy through my affiliate link or take physical delivery of products I may be interested in correct? If the latter is right then we have to consider (ontop of purchase cost), storage, delivery charges, etc. Have I got that part right?
Cheers Gina

Hello Gina, I recommend not taking delivery of the product, which can range from a book, CD or much larger. Most Affiliate members, will still get a commission regardless of what the visitor purchased.

Clearly your niche should be something about which you are truly passionate. Then all the research and effort is joyful. Also, providing a service that is truly helpful to people (such as the colic example) can help you really feel good about what you are doing. Those two factors can help you have the energy and commitment you need to maintain a high level of dedication.

Thanks for sharing, Veronica. I've invested in three online businesses in 2007. Every presentation started with the "leader" (usually an actor) cruising down a major avenue in a stunning, hot red, sports car I didn't recognize. All around there was a tropical "look" ...the avenue lined with palm trees & was even running parallel to an ocean. The music is upbeat, but too loud. He whips into the circle drive of what to me was a mansion, & was just as majestic on the inside as the camera followed him into his "home office"...the size of half our entire home.

What I saw when I took my first look at WA was so reassuring. My anxiety level dropped & I actually felt comfortable & convinced I was going to really learn, develop & grow my own business.

So excited...

I believe that it would be a good idea to also try building a domain using an easy site like GoDaddy as well. Much success has been had using that for a base site because you can also link to Wordpress from there. The prices are affordable and the navigation is super easy. Using tracking links and hosting sites are helpful as well and can really build a base for your sales funnel. Put all of this together and you can see some pretty good results. Don't forget to test which links work best (through tracking) and go with the best ones. If you are selling to multiple audiences, it just means that you have to put more work in to building each link to take your traffic to where you want them to go. You wouldn't want your weight loss traffic to be sent to the make money link ;)

I think this post is a helpful start. Thanks :)

I need to share this information, because, In the past weeks, I have been on a crusade to learn how to make money on line. April I joined group Work at Home (WAH) cost me money, got all their training, copy, paste, links, campaigns with CPA companies. I have website though wordpress , Fan page on facebook, Iam an affiliate with Adwork media and others as well Amazon affiliate, have not made a dime, I have the website but no information from WAH to give me guidance to set it up correctly. I post on facebook, I blog on my website, still no activity. I used to own a health food store (GNC). I have a wealth of knowledge in vitamins, minerals and supplement, in helping the body to repair and heal itself. I have been launching campaigns using Amazon products that reference a natural and holistic products that they list. Their products are posted on my facebook and at my website I created own my own with no instructions from WAH. I was so disgusted until I have made contact with WA, before that I made the mistake of being taken by EZ-money team another scam. I have really been taken advantage of, just trying to learn to work from home. Thank you for your help. Howard.

Hello Veronica.
For awhile I was taking tutorials on making money as an Amazon FBA member and I signed up for a "Sellers Account". But later I found out that FBA was not for me. Much rather work Amazon as an affiliate and do the trainning with WA. If I close my Amazon Sellers account, (which is 49 dollars a month, ) will I still be able to open an affiliate account, or will Amazon reject me due to closing the seller acount?

I don't know about you but I am starting to despise clickbank. Most of their offers look like spam with too much babble and caveat emptor. I hope there are other sites that actually promote value added products while getting commissions in excess of 50%. I have no idea if Amazon (while very good) will give me enough revenue if they are only paying out 6-10% commissions. Any places where they are paying out commissions that don't pay a pittance?

I would like to offer a suggestion to the people learning this new affiliate information.
We all learn by REPETITION. So it's not just enough to read through this info once. It would be wise to do it over and over a few times until you "GET IT". And then go on to the next section and having the previous section LEARNED in your mind, you will have a better base for the next item to learn.
A STABLE BASE IS HOW HOUSES AND BUILDINGS ARE BUILT. Your stable base here is knowledge and understanding.
We want to absorb this knowledge and by repetition you will develop a DEEPER understanding which will start to make it easier for you to grasp this entire course and become an expert.

At times we are told or made fun of because someone has to "read it over again". Yes some times we have to so we can grasp it and understand it. This is a scientific fact. The problem is that the "system" has brainwashed people to think that is silly to do. And then you go around the world and see very few experts at something earning LOTS of money for what they do. -- interesting isn't it.... ;) I hope this helps newbies here! cheers!

I have heard from several different sources that in order to make money online "the list" is crucial. I don't know how true it actually is but I'm aware it is helpful to have a list of people interested in whatever product or service you are offering. There are programs called Autoresponders that can automatically send e-mail messages and, from what I've been able to understand, are a big part of the list building process.

Some years ago I had adsense but I was removed from the program as they suggested I clicked on my own ads. I certainly never did it intentionally, but it was probably an issue if someone else in the family searched for something on google. I think the family were relieved because they could do normal searches after that.
So be careful and never click on any ads when doing searches on googe.

Hi all. So, without a domain how would we get ranked enough from google to get the traffic exposure we are in need of? I've purchased a domain in the past and I didn't get a lot of Google hits to my website. How will we get any at all with a sub domain, I wonder? The key must be in- how to be high/top ranked in google. That's the tricky, difficult task.
Reply
Googlmans Premium
It's all about having original content, reader interaction, time and sometimes an added mix of luck when some people's blogs go viral. In general, though it is the content, interaction and time that will get your site to rank in Google. A sub-domain will likely not rank as well as your own domain. I personally suggest getting your own domain...at ~$20/year I think it is worthwhile. If you're planning to get traffic to your site through other means than Search Engines then it really doesn't matter. IF you are directing traffic from social media or pay per click then it really doesn't matter what domain name you have as long as your landing page/blog has a good conversion to your affiliate links.

Lisa,

If you weren't applying what you're learning here at WA to your old site, that's the reason you got no traffic not so much because of your domain.
