QUO VADIS?
When one first join WA, and start reading the course and posts, you tend to be overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of it all. However, one has to realize that nothing worthwhile comes easy.
I presume that most of the folk here are here because they have an ideal to improve their lives and circumstances and want to be successful at what they are doing.
The late Earl Nightingale defined success as “THE PROGRESSIVE REALISATION OF A WORTHY IDEAL OR GOAL”. It does not happen overnight! It needs some time.
Note that it mentions ideal or goal. Just different names for objectives.
So if you do not have clear and specific objectives for your presence here then the chances are almost one hundred percent that you will not be successful at improving your circumstances.
A good objective states the desired end result in clear terms. It quantifies it and sets the time limit for its attainment.
GarethB just posted an excellent piece on goal setting. (See his blog)
Ask any ship’s captain where his next port of call is and he will immediately tell you, without any hesitation. He knows where he is going and have already planned his route by means of charts and other navigational tools.
He is not going to sail out the harbour without having done the necessary preparation of planning his course to his next destination. Otherwise he has an equal chance of floundering on the rocks somewhere.
What does all this mean to us?
It means that we need a clear picture of what it is that we want to happen, how it is going to happen and by when it is going to happen. Written down and kept somewhere where we will see it and look at it every day.
Good luck my fellow travelers!

Jamie Lynn, there are a couple of tools you can use to help you. Start from the end. Yes you have read that correctly. Write down what it is you want to achieve, then work backwards to see what it is you need to do to get there. Break it down into smaller "do-able" steps.
It should be fairly easy to estimate the time needed for each step and then create a "to do" list of the steps in logical order.
Be fair to yourself. If you allowed one day for a specific task but do not finish it in one day, (life often gets in the way of what we are trying to do) give yourself more time, but you now have an actionable work schedule listing all the steps in logical order.
Just keep on following that. It gets easier all the time.
I have used the term object as guidance with room for some variance. On the other hand, the term goal has very specific performance and a deadline. I will do these specific tasks by this specific deadline. I either meet the goal or I fail. A goal for me is objectively measurable, Short-term goals keep me on daily track in order to meet medium term goals. etc. And like the ship's captain, a course correction part of the process.
True...honestly, I have trouble reaching goals BUT I never stop trying. Every day I try again. I envy those who set goals, small and large and press on to accomplish them. I am trying too!!
