Plan b?never!

Do you have ships to burn?

In Ancient times the leaders of armies would burn the boats, or the ships that brought their armies across the sea to the the land they came to conquer. This way their armies would see that either they conquer or they die, there is no retreating.

In our lives we might have ships that we need to burn. If we have a mental retreat plan then we are not seriously committed. We need to measure our commitment, and determined whether or not our commitments will help us find and enjoy the life we truly want to live.

Have you ever had a serious conversation with your mentor about your commitment? Last week I had such a conversation. I realized that I had some ships I needed to burn. I had a plan B. Even though me plan B, was in the back of my head, it still had power. It was holding me back.

You and I have to realize that doubting our goals, and having an alternate plan endangers our plan A!

So ask yourself how committed are you?
Are you all in?
Are you fully committed to making your goals a reality?

You need to confront your doubts. We all have them, but what we do with them will determine whether we fail and fall or succeed and climb.

I am determined to make things happen. I accept that it will be challenging, but I know it'll be worth it. When I really think about it, leading an average life would drive me insane.

So if you have plan of retreat, if you have ship. Burn them!

Nice one Evan. I think we all have doubts, it's how we let them effect us.

Cheers Tommy

So true. Glad you liked it.

Awesome post Evan, I'm burning my ships but not the Lambo

GE

I'm glad you enjoyed the post. Burn those ships!!! That being said everyone, including my car loving self must realize that to make a difference and leave a legacy we can't value things over people.

Bruce Wayne sacrificed his Lambo for the greater good. I hope that you and I will be willing to do the same. (The link to the video doesn't work I'll message it to you.)

You have good taste, Lambo's are awesome! ;)

Thanks for the inspiration.

No worries Ed, happy to hear my friend!
Have a blessed day.
-Evan :)

You too!

Very interesting, never heard about burning ships before, I try to learn something new every day....guess I'm done for the day, thanks! :)

I love the comment that doubt can create mountains, I totally agree.

Now, what do you think about burning bridges? Do you think that's in the same category as burning ships? Or should we keep our bridges because we may be able to help or be helped by someone in the future?

The bridge might be seen as similar to the ship when it comes to availing us accomplishment. That being said I think they also have differences.

As far as the ships go, they were used to travel from home to conquer abroad. Personally our ships take us out of your comfort zones, and put us in a place of learning. The whole reason we get in our ships, and leave our comfort zone is really because we are dissatisfied. We want more out of life. If we get back on the ship and head home then we avoid learning, and higher achievement. Sure some pain will have been avoided, but that same pain would help us grow personally. Without personal growth we can't realize the success we truly thirst for.

So to make progress you can never be one to get back in the ship and head backward. Sure you might build another ship, but you'll use it to go to a new destination, with a new understand, and a high purpose.

I might think the bridges in life help us reach small successes. They would be apart of the journey. For instance; When I go for my morning walk, I cross a bridge. I don't have to. I could walk through the ponder it stretches across, but the bridge provided a better solution to take me down the same path. I might look at bridges as being a broadening of our understanding. The more we understand things, the easier it is for us to overcome things, and do things differently, or better. Our bridges must he built personally. Others can help, but we have to allow them to help, and we have to be involved in the whole process. We have to willingly expand our mind.

We can use bridges, and at the end of the day we need them, but we don't carry them around with us. What we take with us is the knowledge and understanding we gained. It's this knowledge and understanding that helps to develop the ability to help others along their journey. It all plays into prospective.

These are just some quick thoughts. I haven't but too much thought into bridges just yet. I'd be happy to have a discussion about them, as I'm sure everyone could benefit. Let me know what you think. Let's talk about this. these are most definitely some powerful concepts.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this post, and your wonderfully inquisitive comment. So glad you joined the conversation.

Hey Evan, thanks again for inspiring us all :)

My Pleasure. Have a wonderful day!

The scenario created matches our situations in life, we are always in doubt of our ability to succeed in our chosen vocations or career. That is to say, we are sometimes not determined, focused and not having faith in our ability to actually achieve that which we desire in our career.
We should be determined to make things happen by working hard and getting our plan 'B' which is our boat burnt so that it will forward ever and backward never.
Thanks for sharing, my friend, all the best, God bless you.

Peter!
You got it!
When we are only content with plan b then we are committed to progress toward our goals, rather than defeat. Glad you enjoyed the post. Thanks for your great comment.
All the best, and God bless.

Hi Evan, well said, it is enough to make me take a look at things.
Awesome Pics, I enjoyed them.

Marty

Marty,
Glad you enjoyed the post. Introspection is always healthy for all of us. Remember to not be too hard on yourself. The very fact that you're willing to look for ways to improve shows that you're moving in a good direction. The pictures came from google, I take not personal credit there, but I'm happy you enjoyed them. What's your take on sports cars?

I hope you and yours are well.
-Evan

Hi Even, When I was a kid most of my friends had muscle cars. I was into old classics. As a carhauler I hauled many different makes. The sports cars I hauled were corvettes, high-end Nissans, and different Mercedes models. Some could be considered sports cars.
I hauled many Mustangs and Camaros. I would like to have a high-performance Sports car but it is not in my budget as I am more practical.
I always thought I would like to race. I do enjoy renting the fast go carts.

Marty

Cool! Great to learn more about you.
It's always good to find someone who understands your internal need for speed. I had no idea you hauled cars, that must have been a neat job. Keep dreaming, don't let it die...I want a sports car too. That being said I totally get where you're coming from.

There is no shame in not affording the wheels you want. Life has dealt us greater priorities. (If money was no issue you'd have a sports car though...lets face it ;) ,...that's totally how I feel. )

Our prospective is so important when it comes to these things. Thanks for your comment, thanks for sharing. (we're tighter now, cause I know you get me on more levels than one.)
-Evan

Good to hear:-)

Hi Evan - I like the analogy.

At a more simplistic level (for my mind) - just do it - no-one else will.

Any action you take, is a step forward - whether it's successful or not isn't the point, it's whether you learn from that step - and decide what your next one will be - but more importantly, it's whether you take a step at all that will determine if you change things for yourself.

When you wake up tomorrow - ask yourself a simple question - will I do anything today, that my future self will thank me for?

Try just making one simple change - eat better, exercise more, post another blog post, say thank you to someone - then the next day, think back to what you did the previous day - does your future self (now) feel better that your past self did yesterday?

I know what muy answer would be.

All the best, Mark

Love your comments Mark!

You truly have to take life into your own hands to realize success. Taking action is a big deal. I truly believe we have to learn from every step. Sometimes this is hard to realize and accept in the moment, but the reality of it is undeniable. The steps we take in the right direction definitely matter, but without consistency that's all they will ever be...just steps.

When we are committed to being consistent then we become better at taking action, taking steps, and learning.

I can appreciate the day at a time prospective. It can be easy to become overwhelmed with the grand scheme of things. There is definitely strength that come from focusing on what we can do, and on the positive movements in the right direction, rather then the moments of struggle.

Happy to hear from you.
All the best to you and yours.
-Evan
