Negative thoughts and poison ivy

I recently made a rather itchy and irratating connection.

My lesson began the day that Harry the pig decided it was a free Harry day and made a hole in the old fenceline that had held him for years. This little pig had over 50 acres to play in but he decided that he was going to head me off at the pass and actually come and sit on my front patio until I brought his breakfast. So as I walked out still sleepy-eyed and not yet awake, there was my Harry sitting on his round rump smiling up at me as I stepped out my front door.

Pigs, horses and dogs alike never seem to run off or wander away when they get out so I am blessed that way, but its not good to have Harry the builder in the yard. You never know what he will uproot and scoot. I lured the little porker back to his pen and fed him so he'd stay while I set out to find his homemade open door.

After a little time and thinking like Harry Pigger, I found the nice round hole in the fence near the grapevine on the fence. I found a small panel to cover and mend the hole and my son grabbed the tools to wire it closed. It was very simple really. I held the grapevine up while my son fixed the hole. It only took under a half hour and a disappointed Harry has been in his pen ever since.

Three or four days later a itchy rash came knocking. 7 days later I look like typhoid Mary! The darn stuff spreads with heat and humidity and right now Texas is all about heat and humidity. The stupid oozing. spreading mess is everywhere. Just when I get one patch dried up, another pops up elsewhere.

Of course in the midst of this, life still manages to go on. There are still chores to do, pens to clean, a house and yard, two jobs and a mom with alzheimers that need my attention. All this made me a bit grumpy. Why cant I ever have a day off? Always someone or something to take care of. Im oozy, itchy, hot and miserable and there is no one to care for me! So I sat on my woes and on it went until a few hours later even I couldnt stand myself.

I wasnt blogging. I hadnt done my school work. I hadnt made my prospect calls and my house OMG! All because of an itchy mess. It about then that I made an interesting correlation.

My poison ivy rash reared its head. Unthinking, I scratched it and it blistered and spread. The more I allowed it to bother me and I indulged in that "one little scratch" the more it grew and itched all the more. Now it looks like its trying to take over.

It wasnt until I made a conscious effort and made a mental effort to care for the itch and work at drying up the mess that it showed some improvement.

I realized that this mess was much like my negative thoughts. I had allowed them to sneak in. I then induldged in a little scratching to make them feel better and then my negative thoughts took over and tried to ruin my progress. And whats worse was I realized I was HELPING them get worse all along.

Negative thoughts ARE poisonous. Like Ivy, they sneak up on your when you arent paying attention and play with your feelings and emotions. They tell you its ok to put blogging one more day or its stupid to work at this because it will never work. Negative thoughts pick you and pick at you and pick at you until you grow weak and let them take over. The thing is your negative thoughts are YOUR negative thoughts. YOU control them. If you dont indulge them, they cant spread.

When negative thoughts crop up quickly respond by replacing them with positive thoughts.. It doesnt matter if the positive thoughts have come to pass yet, its the action that matters, Dont scratch or entertain negative those negative thoughts. Just remember if you do even just a little, they WILL spread

I sorry you had to get an itch, for us to learn that negative thoughts can be poisonous and if not controlled can cause us to make bad decisions Thanks for posting, this came for me at a time when I am questioning my capabilities of blogging.

I am so glad this helped. It's funny what I feel the need to post lol. But inspiration is everywhere. Never, ever doubt yourself! You got this!!!!

What a great story..

I believe your little pig is bored and finds it very amusing to have you run after him... not so lol, i know...

He loves to sit on the frontdoor because of wHat happens there i guess?

Yes Fleeky! You must know my Harry. He loves to hear me say "Harry! What are you doing here?" His little tail just twizzles with joy lol!

I hope you are better now Jennifer and thanks for sharing this great story. Pigs are amazing and so intelligent. I love them
Negativity, on the other hand, is a big fat NO
Keep on making people smile
Vicki

I am super blessed to have people to make smile and furry friends that love to do it!

I have a feeling I'm looking at the net great children's book author Jenifer!

Lol. Yes actually Prissy is a book I started. I had the idea just before Peppa Pig came out. Thought I'd let Peppa wind down....didn't want her to feel bad when ole Prissy made it to the shelves;0)

What an awesome blog. I love reading about your antics with piggy and the co-relation to negativity and your poor poison ivy experience. You gave me a giggle for the morning. (Piggy wise - not poison ivy wise) I could just see piggy sitting there at your front step.
Thank you for the analogy.
Paula

Yes. They always do this when I don't have my camera on me! Harry was super adorable sitting on his rump there. On the other hand, Flower, his partner in crime thought it'd be cute to try to eaty rubber boots. She gets cranky in the morning. Ole Prissy just sat there smiling.

The moment that stinking thinking starts creeping in - I play my energising music it breaks that negative thinking

Exactly. Find what diverts and redirects your thoughts and make it a habit! Music can sooth the "Savage beast"!
