Associates Program Amazon

I have come across something that Amazon has in their operating agreement as of this month (Feb 2016).

Down in section 10 Identifying Yourself as an Associate there is requirement now that you should clearly state the following on your site: “[Insert your name] is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to [insert the applicable site name (amazon.com or myhabit.com)].”

I think this is sort of like with Clickbank requiring that they be identified wherever you post one of their links.

I don't know if it should be handled like the privacy notice or what but I do think everyone should be aware of the requirement. I did put it on a page on my site.

Thanks Terry for sharing.

Hi Terry, you can not hide this on a page like your privacy policy, it has to be visual on every post that have links from Amazon. I wrote mine in a nice frame, made it an image and posted it in a widget in my side-bar. That way it will show on every post and page. A lot of affiliates require one of those, and without it you might not get your commision.

That does sound good. Thank you.

I think Amazon also wants each affiliate link from your website to be recognizable as what it is (an affiliate link from your website to Amazon). But most websites I go to don't seem to do this.

Does it have to be a name of a person? What if you are using a business name?

2

You should use the name of your website.

As far as I am aware, this statement needs to be active on every single page of your site to conform to the amazon associate policies. I have heard of a couple being having there accounts temporarily disabled for not having having it posted on every single page.

The best option is to just place it as a footer text widget or in your sidebar so that it is always active.

I put it in the footer.

Thanks. That sounds good.

thanks for the update!

Thanks for making us aware of this requirement. I would like to know what the best course of action about handling this would be. Would you be able to post the link to the page you made yours on, just to get an idea and feel for it. Thanks
