Spring Has Sprung! So Has My Survival Garden.
I've been working outside a lot lately, so I haven't been able to physically work on Wealthy Affiliate to pay it forward as much as I'd like. This lack of interaction has also affected my ranking. Wa, waa, waaa.
But I had to redo the whole left side of my garden. I removed old raised-bed structures and added new ones. The ground around the garden was filled with wild onions that I mowed, then covered with cardboard and heavy black garden sheeting. Then, I spread mulch. So far, so good—until the grass grows this summer! Next Spring, we’ll see if the black garden sheet killed most onions.
The plants that were available that I picked were late Winter plants for Collards, Collard Cabbages, Kale (2 kinds), Lettuces, Chard and flowers for insect repellant.
I’ve had a garden before for both Winter and Summer crops, but it got to be too much to tend. Now that I have two survival blogs discussing survival gardens and how to use the harvested produce, I figured I should know what I’m talking about a bit better.
This is the right side that has 6 pots of mint! There are also 2 overgrown raised beds of rosemary. Off to the side are pots of parsley, sage, basil, and flowers.I gotta admit I feel it a lot more now that I’m older, lol. It was tough the first few times, but I’ve gotten used to it. The weather in Florida this year has been weird. It got hot for a while, making us think we got an early Spring into Summer, but we’ve had three cold fronts! That has been good for a late Winter garden, though.
On top of that, we got a new kitten. She is so sweet. She lies under my arm when I’m typing. She likes the weight of your arm.
This is our new kitten, Ivy.I plan on mowing the grass less in the pastures this year, which should allow me more time to work on my blogs. Typically, it takes 2-3 days every week to mow everything.
Instead, I’m mowing walkways in the pastures so the weeds will grow. I want to see what is really there and what can be used for medicines, eating them, etc. I’ll do another follow-up post closer to Summer with pictures to show you all.

The garden looks so lovely. Wow, that is a lot of work. I love that cat, Ivy. It's a beautiful cat. Meow! Great job on the gardening work. Here where I live, it is raining, and it is not quite yet Spring, but buds are growing on trees. People are out more when it is sunny. Nice yard.
I don't really call it a 'yard' cuz it's part of 5 acres, lol. What yard we have is full of weeds, so it looks green. if you look closely, I have let the weeds grow in part of my yard that can't be seen unless you are in the back. I mow in the front and we planted new grass where we had our drain field redone. Still a lot of weeds there, too!

Yeah, that sounds familiar to the southern states. I am in the Pacific Northwest area—still pretty photos to enjoy the greenery.

She looks like a beautiful cat, Teri!

She is a little one—just over a year old. When she was spayed, she might have had kittens or been pregnant—cats can get pregnant at four months!

I know exactly what you mean, Teri!
