Dumpster Fire to End My Weekend
So, this was the end of my weekend. Everyone in the neighboring building and our buidling gawking at something and my tenant banging on the door saying "There is a huge fire".
This is a picture of our dumpster...on fire...and the fire department coming to put it out. The flames were much, much higher before I took this. They were probably 15 feet high. The plastic lids were totally incinerated. I am just glad nothing else caught on fire. It looks like it was so hot it started to melt the lid of the neighboring dumster behind as well.
Tenants in the neighboring building dumped coals in it from their BBQ...yeah...real smart. They claimed the coals were cold according to the firefighter I talked to. However, our tenant heard them laughting when they dumped the coals in. Maybe they were drunk whatever, but they should have been more careful. The dumpster is in our name so I made it clear to the police that responded, the fire fighters and the owner of the other building that we would not be responsible for whatever costs result. The tenant who started it is a leutenant in the Air Force and had already talked to the owner (who pays us for half the garbage fee). He already said he will pay for it if neccesary.
I get to call the garbage company tomorrow and explain this. You just never know as a landlord what may come up! You have to be on call 24/7.
I spent much of the long weekend working on my website so that was good. My husband was helping a friend put on a new roof and was not quite home yet.
Onward and Upward,
Jessica

One of my dad's favorite sayings used to be "You can't fix stupid!", and I think that applies here. Glad no one got hurt, and they know who to assess the damage to.
