Get At Least One Of Your Pages Ranked

The advantages of getting our pages ranked will only be stating the obvious. But I was wondering what if I get at least one of my pages ranked on page 1 of Google, Yahoo and Bing simultaneously. Will the increase in traffic to that particular page have a cascading effect altogether whereby the visitors explore other areas of my site as well if I’m able to create just enough intrigue in the content of my ranked page? If we perform good SEO technique by setting all the page attributes correctly, and with good length and with good use of keywords, pages do get ranked fast. I have seen that happening with a few people here. Wait. Does this mean ranking is mostly about SEO and that the quality of the content is secondary? A page gets ranked high --- > more visibility --- > increased traffic in a particular search query --- > more business conversion. Is the chain of events that simple? What about my hard work that had gone into creating my many posts?

The other day I read an article that included many interesting data mainly to do with the age of pages that are ranked on page 1 of Google for over 2 million random keywords selected for the study. Yes, for 2 million keywords. It threw up certain interesting facts:

  • The average top-10 ranking page is 2+ years old.
  • On an average, the page that gets ranked at position #1 are almost 3 years old.
  • Almost 95% of newly published pages do not go to the top-10 position within a year.
  • On an average, the ones that get ranked in the top-10 positions do it in about 2-6 months.

There are a few more interesting data on the percentages of each ranking positions of pages (top-10) that were less than 1 year old. Well, let me not get into the details here. But the fact is the SERP is clearly dominated by “old” pages.

Which takes me back to the question I had asked myself in the beginning? If one of my pages gets ranked on page 1 of Google, Yahoo and Bing for a particular search query, can I leverage it to bring more benefit to my website as a whole? I think, I can do. With the same combo: hard work and dedication. Ah, I’m here for the long haul.

Wow Sukumarth you have really grown in your work that's so amazing I have been so caught up with being nana to my grandchildren and my brand new grand daughter as it's the end of school year, Christmas in a 10 days and my daughters 21st birthday in January the 5th 2018 so I need to pull finger and get serious before I drop off altogether any way enough about me congratulations on all your hard work have a blessed Christmas.
Cheers
Sue

Thanks, Sue! Sending my Christmas wishes to you and your family. I still have much work to do. I'm trying to get to the bottom of why my pages are not Google-friendly when they already are ranked on Bing's page 1 under specific keywords. I guess Google's more crowded for search :)

Good questions and great stats and very good points you have presented here. Interesting. SEO is where my efforts are going forward. Apart from writing, it's the heart of what we do here.
Unless we are celebrities or wealthy enough to pay for traffic. SEO is "queen" and content is king.

David

Almost everybody here, starting with me, seems to be all into SEO nowadays. It's trending :)

Really good info. I suspected as much. Thanks for sharing. Tom

Now let us drive our energy in trying to get into that 5% slot where the newly published articles are ranked in the top-10 within the first year itself. Cheers!

Interesting statistics....proving we need to be here for the long term! I'm with you...here forever...still so much to learn.
Debbie

Exactly, there's so much to learn. I'm giving myself a long rope. I don't mind the gestation period before the big things happen (hopefully)!

The age of a site is also a factor in Google's algorithm. They want sites that are continuous thought leaders at the top of their results. That's why they like a steady supply of fresh, new content. Yes, getting ranked for one page on page 1 of Google will benefit the rest of your site, but so will continuing to add more pages with long-tail keywords and climbing the ranks with those. All efforts lead to good in this case.

So very true. Couldn't agree more.

Thanks for the motivation

I like your thinking. I have a post in the pipeline that is controversial and I'm hoping that I will be able to get ranking with that and drive traffic to my site off that. Will let you know how I go!

I would love to know. I have managed to get one of my posts ranked on page 1 of all the three search engines mentioned. I'm going to see if this will have a trickle-down effect on my other posts as well.
