Take Care Of Your Sea Puppies

Everyone loves to learn something new because a day without learning is a wasted day. .

I am a submarine sailor and will be until I am no more. Some believe I am demented or odd based on my time under the pond but I believe I am just a tinge extravagant.

The picture above shows a submarine doing an emergency surface where you not only blow the ballast tanks but use also drive the boat at a high angle upward to hit the surface as quickly as possible.

It may come to a surprise but the individuals responsible for driving a billion dollar submarine are normally the youngest and most junior personnel on the boat.

You may ask. How you can trust people barely out of high school to drive a billion dollar submarine with 100 plus personnel onboard without incident.

The answer is very simple. Submarine sailors are trained, mentored, and must qualify on submarine systems and primary jobs.

How does it work?

  • Sailors attend basic submarine system training where they learn how a submarine works, how to keep it from sinking when there is flooding, how to put out fires while submerged, how to escape when submerged, and other basic skills.
  • Sailors attend advanced submarine school where they become experts in their primary jobs some of which include sonar, nuclear power, electronics, etc.
  • New sailors (sea puppies) are assigned to a more senior sailor (sea daddies or sea mommies) for mentoring in both basic systems and primary jobs.

  • Sailors must pass qualification boards to independently perform basic functions and primary jobs. Once they have completed qualifications for the submarine, they are awarded the Submarine Warfare insignia (Dolphins).

  • A sailor that earns a set of Dolphins is officially a Submariner and will always be a Submarine from that day on.

So why the comparison between submarines and WA?

  • WA members come from all walks of life and with different experiences.
  • Basic/advanced training is available and new training is developed daily.
  • Mentoring is a robust two way street.
  • Our final test or qualification is our website.

I have been with WA for nearly two (2) months and appreciate the work that Carson, Kyle and the WA crew have accomplished. Everyday, there are new enhancements added to improve our efficiency and in the background mundane maintenance is performed to keep the boat operational.

Perhaps there is a better comparison but in my mind I am a sea puppy once again receiving world class mentoring from my sea daddies and sea mommies. Each day, I get closer to qualifying and being a mentor myself.

What do you compare WA to?

Thanks for all you do and full speed ahead. It's great being fifty plus going on fifteen.

Wishing you safety, health and success.

Hi Jay, having an already altogether unhealthy interest in submarines :) for as long as can remember..I've watched every documentary and movie ever created.on the subject...I found your post very interesting. I bet you have quite a few stories to tell of your time on board your boat. I think the terminology "sea daddies" and "sea mommies" and "sea puppies" are just brilliant. Great post!

Thanks. I would go back if I could but I can't. My favorite is Iron Men and Steel Boats or it may be Steel Men and Iron Boats. More to come I am certain. Have a great night. Jay

Steel Boats, Iron Men..great stuff :)

Hi! Jay, Always become so upbeat from reading your practical enlightening post, what really makes sense; I concurred. Yet, please do not forget to watch and coach me - a one-month old WA baby. Best to health and success,

Urolin1981

Thanks and I am here but tied up on 9 to 5 job much of day. Hope you are doing well tonight. Jay

Understand, but do not forget high-quality direct self-service so to maintain a high level of energy and ability to fulfill the duty of life as detailed in http://formefirst.com/selfservice.html.

Good night!

Thanks for the link and I will review tonight. I have opened but I need to tune my mind for a couple minutes once I complete going through 100 plus WA notifications from today. I am normally on top of everything but had to take my bride in for a followup surgical visit. Jay

Self-service was a good read and as I have aged I have battled with this issue. Better now than when younger but must continue to evolve. Thanks, Jay

Thanks for reading my posting, but as said, please continue critiquing my baby - www.ebettercare.com so to succeed faster in E-marketing.
Did I ask you to be a book reviewer? If not, I would like to invite you to be mine. If yes, please let me know.

Warm regards,

Chin-Ti

My apologies Chin-Ti. I have been fighting the side effects of shingles so have been a bit preoccupied. Thought I was over it but today I was knocked back in the dirt. First time I have enjoyed. Will be back soon and would love to review. Jay

Solid perspective Jay, thanks for sharing.

Thanks and have a wonderful evening. Jay

I grew up on a sailboat my whole life and have dove 2 circumnavigations. We were just outside Halifax Harbour once and we had a US sub do an emerg surface about 500 yards from us, scared the living Sugar Honey Ice-Tea out of us. I also got to tour through one of Canada's subs....I hope they never send that thing into war....I am just glad everyone likes Canada because only our snipers and JTF2 squads are scary good. Thanks for your service Jay.

Thanks for the kind words and for also reminding me of similar situations... scaring other vessels. I still love the light green of Canadian ships. Thanks, Jay

Well, Chief, as a former tin can sailor, I could never quite get behind the idea of being on a ship (sorry, boat) that's supposed to sink. :=)

On a more serious note, the surface Navy would do well to implement the sub fleet's training and crew quals regimen.

Thanks and being on a tin can is quite an accomplishment considering it probably rolled almost as bad as a sub when we were on the surface. The training was good and the strategy has been forever ingrained in me. Have a great night and thanks. Jay

Climbing any learning curve needs some training
Thanks

Stan

Thanks, train, train, and train some more. Thanks, Jay

Nicely done. And just in case you do not know, check out the 'story' on Sub R-14. Interesting.

Interesting story and thanks. Never knew about the sailing sub. Thanks, Jay

nice post, thanks.

Appreciate your comments. Have a great night. J

I toured the Navy submarine school in San Diego Jay. It's quite a regimen. Great post!
