Notes from Jay's Webinar - February 5, 2016
Why is the Wall Built?
- Learning Barriers
- “There is no so much information” - Information Overload
- WA training is a Good Thing: It is broken down
- Technical Proficiency – all the new technical things you need to learn
- Learning Ability – ability to process and observe information. Learning styles Visual vs. Reading Style
- Frustration of terminology – all the new terms
- Volume of education – take a moment to think of everything you learned since you joined WA - there is so much you have learned
- Action Barriers
- No action taking place
- More learning than taking action – spend more time learning than applying what you have learned
- Length of time for taking action – it is taking so long to take action that you do not want to learn anymore b/c it is so emotionally exhausting
- Distraction Barriers
- Oh! WA Live Chat – Get distracted with the LiveChat – it can consume too much of your day if you are not careful
- Hey! New Email – get distracted with new emails that we spend more time with the PM system instead of building our sites, etc. Especially when you get those little notifications in red in the upper right hand corner
- A friend comes online and you stop what you are doing to go chat.
- It is up to you to stop those distractions from happening.
- Gratification Barriers
- No instant results in organic SEO
- Insatiable need to get instant results
- Frustration of conversion funnel time
- No time frame as to when you will see results and we live in a world of time frames.
- A need to make money now
- Lots of online educational programs and opportunities
- You can get lured in from all of these false “scammy” messages promising you that you will make money instantly.
- There are these false expectations that are generated
- How long does it take to succeed
- These play into that whole time frame
- With All of the above barriers listed
- They create a routine
- Can prevent serious progress
- Build frustration
- Three months is the typical break point
- These barriers build problems
“The best solution to your problems is YOU”
Self Asses What Goes Wrong
- Ask yourself these questions:
- What are my learning barriers? - Write these down and record them so you can see what are your specific learning barriers
- SEO is really hard
- The terminology
- What are my Action Barriers?
- Fear of trying
- What are my Distraction Barriers? – this probably the BIGGEST question to ask yourself
- Spend too much time on WA chat
- Helping too much – this is totally ME!
- What are my Gratification Barriers?
- Rankings are not happening fast enough for me

- Bubble.us is a FREE website Jay recommended for mapping out your plans
- Make four buttons/pillars
- Learning
- Action
- Distraction
- Gratification
- Make four buttons/pillars
And map out each of these barriers
See image below:
Yellow – the type of distractions
Red – Specific distraction within that type
Green – the solution to that distraction and
The last row - below that put a time line on the solution in which you will fix these issues
Preventing from Happening Again
- Mapping out your plan will help to prevent it from happening again
- Do check-ins to prevent it from happening
- Accountability check ins – once a week, once a month, etc.

Steph, Thank you for taking the time to post this! it is definitely one I am going to watch as soon as it posts.
All the best,
Isabella
Great notes! THank you so much Steph! I originally want to attend the webinar, but I overslept :( (It's morning in my local time). Sigh.
I'll need to develop some action plan to push my limit and concentrate more on my websites. Thank you again :)
Cheers,
Ferdinand
You are welcome Ferdinand. I know there are so many different time zones. For me it is okay. It is at 6pm my time on Friday - not a big deal.
Thanks for sharing this Steph. I'm living in a remote area and have to watch my data usage, so having this summary of the webinar is gold. Really appreciate your time and effort. Thank you!
That is another reason to have the notes available.
I too live out in a rural area and it can be hard. Also, we are often experiencing storms with rain and hail right now so Internet can be a tricky thing during those weather conditions.
In your case you have accessibility issues with the technology, so I know it helps you out as well. Thank you Helen. I am glad to have you in my network.
WOW Stephanie!
This is totally awesome. You have taken all the gems from this webinar and boiled them into a format for the learner that does better digesting it by reading then hearing!
Thank you...this is a wonderful contribution!!!
Linda
Linda:
I am the same way. I digest better through reading too - that is my learning process as Jay called it, but I refer to it as learning style. I can read and re-read things but with a video it can be hard to catch everything you are hearing. That is just how I am - plus many people due to hair impairments, etc may not be able to hear the video and since they are captioned, people with disabilities are often left out.
Thank you!
Steph
Precisely! This took time and effort on your part and is MOST appreciated. '
How are things? Goodness you are all the way up in the WA Top 10. What a splendid accomplishment. I know it takes time...I hope you are able to continue to modify and morph everything you are doing to see your website grow and do well too.
