If you are updating WordPress Core, Themes or Templates, then WordPress will control this for you.
However, if you want to force a Maintenance mode/message for visitors for a longer period, you can use a plugin to do this.
I use the Coming Soon plugin by SeedProd

How do I find the WA service provider?
WA use ENOM for their domain name Registrar, which is part of the Tucows group.
WA use AWS (Amazon’s Cloud) to host their servers, but have full control over the setup.

i have found this theme to be very user friendly and the available settings comprehensive ... Overlay ... Theme . which one to choose?
I use Make free theme.
It's super fast when set up properly and has lots of features.

Check out Blossom themes. They have a variety of attractive, free themes that are working well for me. Most importantly, I am not getting error messages about the pages NOT being mobile responsive like I was in the past.
