Banned!

I recently posted a blog about my Pinterest ad that was disapproved. I received a lot of great replies. To all that participated in the discussion.

THANK YOU 🙏🏼

The reason why I asked that question was to understand better from those who have gone before me so I don't do the wrong things and get...

BANNED!

Yes, in this digital age, some of us are developing fear of receiving the following suspension message from social media platforms.

Collating the feedback from my blog post and a little research, the following are what you should not do if you don't want to get banned from Pinterest.

Stealing Images

  • You may be violating copyrights laws without knowing it by using images from unknown source
  • Repurposed content from other social media like Facebook.
  • Using images from Google image search, you need to check the usage terms before use
  • Best to use images from free image sites that clearly states the free use terms such as Unsplash, Pixabay, Pexel and many more you can find in the blogs here

Don't Spam

This was a surprise to me but yes, you can be caught spamming on Pinterest.

  • High volume Pinterest behavior, eg. Lots of login and logouts, large volume of pin uploads, repinning everywhere
  • The above is very general and good news is Pinterest has admitted to mistakes by their bots in some cases.
  • Use of link shorteners like bit.ly
  • Hijacking pins, using other people's pins to redirect to a third party site

There are many more reasons, written and unwritten since private free platform owners ultimately reserve the rights as to whom they will allow to use their platforms.

Rather than bore you with the details, let's hear it from the horses mouth. (This cliche needs to change since you are viewing and not listening, but you get the idea)

The above list says it better than I can write about each item.

I guess a picture is worth a thousand words...

Thanks, my friends. Thought I just summarize for all so we can stay safe and...

Don't get BANNED.

I have found each platform has it's own little nuances, as you say some are unwritten, so often times it is not easy to know if you are pushing the boundaries of getting banned.

If you keep in the forefront of your mind what the platform was actually created for and try to act like that's what you are using it for, not for business, you can stay on the right side of the law.

Thanks, Heidi.

Sorry to hear about your ban Stanley. Sometimes these things happening to us helps us to learn the correct way to do things. It can be easy to do things without thinking about it and just assume that everything is ok. It is only when we get the message that we sit back and think about things.

Not yet, just trying to avoid getting ban.

You just keep avoiding that ban Stanley.

I am now following you here at WA. xxxx

Thanks for the follow.

Thank you for this good advice.
It is true that it is so easy to post an image that doesn't belong to us on a social network like pinterest and to be caught by the patrol. We must be careful not to harm ourselves by stealing the work of others even if it is not done wickedly.
Let's stay ethical!

Yes, when the action is easy we forget about driving according to the rules.

It can be a very slippery slope when it comes to posting and promoting our content on social media. I posted a video I created on YouTube a couple of weeks ago showing a survey that I was taking at one of the survey sites I've reviewed. The survey had a video in it which had a song that was copyrighted and there was a copy right claim on my video because of it. I wasn't banned by YouTube or even had a strike against my account, but because of the copyrighted song in that video, I'm not allowed to earn money from that particular video of mine from ads.

It's no matter because I'm trying to get people viewing the video, to go to my site anywhere where I can eventually earn money that way so not earning money from ads on that particular video is of no concern to me.

I, however, will be much more careful on things like that in the future as I don't want anymore copyright claims against me.

Yes, there are different conditions of the intellectual property law imposed on social media that we are not aware off. Good to know so we can do things correctly.

Very good information. Thank you! I have been having problems finding good photos for my niche, so thank you for mentioning the free photo sites. I know there are many out there, but quite often they mix them with photos that have copyrights on them and have to be paid for.
Thank you for all the information that you provided also. It will prevent others from being banned! So sorry you had to go through this.

You are welcome.
