New Strategy for a New Year!
Happy new year to you!! I wish everybody here at WA a productive and successful year in 2023, filled with laughter and joy!
I've been here for a looong time now (since 2016) and I've been through different stages of my evolution. I was missing a huge part of the puzzle until recently when Partha's blogs infused me with new energy, determination and a hunger to learn and to do better.
Now the time has come to set myself some new work ethics and goals, which I thought I'd share with you all.
Especially if you're newer here, you might find some of these tips helpful!
Hobby or Business?
Do you treat your blog like a hobby or a business? - I always said it was a business in my own answer. But I was so wrong.
I used to work on my blog in every spare moment, often until late at night. I thought I used to 'put in the hours'.
But I was WRONG. There was no structure.
Starting on the 27th December 2022 I'm now accountable for my hours 'at work'. This means I will no longer 'fit it in my spare time' but instead I prioritise my time spent working on the blog. And if I take time off, I have to repay it. This is the only way to get in enough hours (I have two other jobs too).
The other MAIN change I'm making is my strategy - having one is already a change for me lol. I used to work on one article and continue until it was published and then start on another. Not the best way to go.
What Strategy?
This is the strategy I'm applying to my work - see if anything resonates with you and feel free to apply it to your own blogging too!
1. First and foremost I now use Partha's Potions to find keywords and write articles around them.
2. Plan my working hours. Although they have to fit around my other 'work' they are still set working hours which I will set for each day and do my best to fulfil.
3. Build up a stash of articles so that if I get ill / go on holiday / have a surprise visit from friends, I can still publish on time.
4. Allocate time for different activities: keyword research, writing, inserting links, researching, promoting etc.
5. Write down everything I do so that I can track it and improve on it.
So guys, this is the closest I get to making a New Year's Resolution. What about you? Do you have new plans for 2023?
Thanks for reading!
Soraya :-)

Seems like you have a fantastic strategy planned out for the New Year Soraya!
I wish you every success moving forward my friend!
Soraya, thanks for telling us what helped you to stay focused on your website content.
My goal for 2023 is to push out that content.
You are right about how so many things can distract us from prioritizing our time without structure. The keyword you used here is structure. Some people must have a system set up to manage their time.
I am one of those people who do not like living a structured lifestyle. I feel that part of that has a lot to do with my MS; I found structure doesn't work for me because of that.
As you said, you followed ParthaB's Potions. I did one thing that he suggested. That is to set a time for writing, only 15 to 20 minutes, another allocated time for keyword and Google searches and writing notes. I noticed if I do them little by little, I get less exhausted from trying to do everything all at once.
Jay shared an excellent tool to help structure your content creation calendar. You can find that here in his class from last Friday. Week 13: Future Proofing Your Online Business (Case Study Wrap-up)
Hey Brenda!
Thank you for your comment. Yes, actually, part of my 'new' strategy is to write MUCH more content than last year.
I forgot to mention that. Actually that would be my number one change, but in my mind I had mentioned it by saying I was going to be setting myself some hours lol!! Totally NOT mentioned at all!
By nature I'm more like you, in a way - I just do everything in my own time in my own way. But I wasn't doing enough, so I'm going to be more analytical this year.
It must be much more difficult for you with MS and I feel great empathy for what you are dealing with. Bravo to you for doing your online entrepreneurship despite the difficulties.
Initially I didn't create a set structure because I didn't want to turn this working online into a 'bore' (because I'm not too keen on timetables etc) but I've realised that I'm just not as productive as I need to be. And finally I'm prepared to give it whatever it takes . . as long as I can.
After all, if I always do what I've always done, I'll always get what I've always got . . . . And so far, I haven't got my site where I want it to be. So I just have to keep trying to change things until I stumble across the magic formula haahaha.
Thank you for sharing the class from Jay, I'll check it out. I've stopped looking for trainings since the premium plus came into play because it seems they're mainly just for the higher banded level of membership.
Have a great January!
Soraya :-)
Doesn't time just fly by so fast. . . A year goes by like a month used to.
Thanks for the correction about the trainings, I'll keep it in mind regarding the trainings which are available to purple premiums!
I personally do not set New Years Resolutions, as I know those won't be happening. I now set myself up with Goals, not too many, yet goals I can easily accomplish and see that I have accomplished at the end of each week.
Oh I totally agree. I never set New Year's Resolutions because they don't make sense and are usually forgotten or broken in a week.
But in this case my goals coincided with an important date so I borrowed the term NYR lol! :-)
Me too Jeff, this was just lucky timing! And if you make a change to your strategy at the beginning of a year, well then it can be called many things, including new year's resolutions haha.
