.Traffic is everything, isn’t it?

This is why we are struggling so much to create valuable and unique content.

But of course, there are many other ways and avenues that can help us to generate traffic to our sites.

A few days ago I published a short tutorial about this topic.

For those who haven't seen it yet ...

Still, the most obvious good-old-method is getting external links to our websites.

And goes without saying ... when links are involved, we always need to pay a great attention to our endless SEO efforts ...

The point: just like any other SEO avenue, link building cab be extremely useful ... and very damaging ...

So let's see the pros and cons ...

1. Pros

1.1 Link building = traffic. Used effectively, link building makes your page more visible.

1.2 Link building = increased credibility. Getting inbound links from well-established, respected authority sites will raise your credibility.

1.3 Link building = better rankings. You can improve the rank of your site by increasing the number of high quality sites that link to your pages.

2. Cons

2.1 Link building is very time consuming. You won't become famous overnight. Getting one or two high quality inbound links won't make any difference.

2.2 Inbound links from low-quality pages or sources will adversely affect your ranking as well. And Google is smart. You can’t simply create some pages for the sole purpose of link building and expect Google to rank you highly.

2.3 You can be penalized or even thrown out of Google if misused. Black hat tactics such as link farms, doorway pages, cloaking, hidden content, etc, won't be tolerated. You could get some temporary results, but Google prohibits this behavior and if caught, you will have to say good bye to Google.

2.4 You cannot continue link building without a limit. You will be termed a spammer if you do it erratically and the punishment will be severe.

So ... Should be a yes or a no?

It's definitely a YES! The benefits are plenty, the expenses are negligible and done right the risks are almost inexistent.

Conclusion

If used wisely and with patience, link building is one of the most effective and lucrative ways of promotion in any online environment.

What you need to do: respect the Google guidelines, be patient and consistent, and the results will come.

What you should avoid: don't transform link buidlding efforts into link begging, and don't get fooled by dangerous link building myths. Which myths? These:
