Daily Facts - Day #63: Billion dollar niches - The $100 billion worth childhood obesity
Childhood obesity ...
A trend which is literally taking over our world.
Faster than you can imagine!
And it goes without saying ... Obesity is dangerous ... and childhood obesity is even more dnagerous.
The numbers - provided by StatisticBrain - are frightening and distressing ...
- the annual cost of childhood obesity is estimated to be $100 billion
- there has been an increase of 200% (!) in childhood obesity over the past three decades
- 80% of the obese children become obese adults
- there are over 300,000 deaths attributed to childhood obesity every year
And the really sad thing ... according to several sources, childhood obesity is only going to grow in numbers over the next few years ...
The Google Trends charts are very straightforward:
And no wonder, Jaaxy gave me 3,677 AVG monthly searches for "childhood obesity" ...
Fact is, it's a quite narrow health sub-niche with a special focus on childhood obesity prevention, healthy nutrition, children physical education and childhood obesity care.
But, is definitely a valuable avenue for affiliate marketers ... On Amazon I found 357 items for "childhood obesity" ...
And there is a HUGE cherry on the top ... We are talking about a well-targeted health sub-niche that can be easily combined and connected with many other popular and profitable interest areas: healthy food, early diabetes, sport, outdoor activities, etc.
My conclusion
This disease is becoming widespread in the current generation and many parents want to find reliable information on how to combat this dangerous disease. Millions of families are forced to learn the side effects from this disease both medical and emotional.
I'd like to say that is not an evergreen niche, but ... it is.

Yes, child obesity problem is getting bigger. One of the ways is to control our eating habits and lifestyle :o)
So glad I was born in the ‘50’s. Plenty of physical activity and no digital distractions. Often reflect on how lucky me and mine are to be 50’s folk. Bookmarked Zed and Thank you. Festive Greetings all. AJ
I was obese as a pre teen, early teen. It took a lot of effort to shed those pounds and gain a little muscle (my god-sister made me run half a mile every day to get my snacks from the gas station haha).
This is a great niche to market in, I had to do it the hard way, but I know a lot "fat kids" whose parents spend a ton of cash on weight loss smoothies and excersize programs...
The funny thing, in my mind, is that the kids get heavy from all the money their parents spend on buying them snacks, then the parents spend even more money to try and get those kids to lose weight!
Whatever right? I guess our job is get a little bit of that money for ourselves!
Great post Zed, thanks for sharing it with us, I appreciate it!
This is becoming a huge problem and will create health risks for the new generation going forward. This niche will be an important one.
300,000 deaths attributed to obesity yearly is staggering.
We need to do more in this area.
Personally, I would gladly attempt to share prevention massages to help somehow.
We are getting sicker as a world because we choose to neglect and enbrace in our lives the basic concept of prevention.
Why sbould we prevent diseases?
Because it saves lives.
This is what we should be all be aiming for.
Curbing child obesity is a big step in the right direction.
Thank you for great share, Zed.
My friend, take some rest and enjoy the holiday season with loved ones.
Peace and love
Maxine

I'm surprised the UK demand isn't higher. Although the demand is heavy in England. Still, it looks like a good market for localization here.
Thanks yet again! Marc
Thank YOU!
