Top tips on how to stand out in a niche market
Reams and reams have been written about this, so let me just hit on the most important top tips:
- Find your own voice - what are you comfortable with? Are you the story telling type, someone who makes their point with a joke or maybe writing in rhyme? Whatever it is that underlines your own personality and gets the message across - and that basically boils down to what you feel comfortable with - expand and expound it. It may take a while and many drafts, but if you keep writing, you will find your own style.
- Write with passion and emotion about your subject. Which is not to say that you should laugh hysterically or cry all over the page, but do let your reader know that there is a human being at the other end. Even a product review of a golf club can be written in a way that engages the reader way beyond just giving him/her the bare facts of weight, material and characteristics the club is made of.
- Find content gaps: in order to do this, you will have to know your niche well and then identify gaps/areas/topics that have not been written about before or recently. Maybe turn the subject upside down or inside out, maybe list the positives and the negatives, think in terms of opposites.
- Write about special events - either coming up in the future or reviews of relevant events that have recently taken place. Or maybe you know about the most important events that take place for your niche - fairs, exhibits, conventions, etc.
- Research, research, research and become an authority on your subject. This is nothing new, but cannot be emphasized enough. If you run out of news, you can always dig in the past and come up with some history: If you are writing about marketing scams, there are lots of historical examples that may be amusing, right down to the old snake oil of the 19th century.
And finally: Show up and keep it up. Steady does it. A steady drip cuts the stone. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again. There is a lot of truth in them thar old and trite chestnuts!

These are great points. Pix are worth a thousand words when describing a technique or item too. Many people are visual (like me). Good post. ~Debbi
Taking time to build relationships - soooo true! And that brings me to the commodity which has become so rare: giving time to others, giving part of your life-time to others. That is a great treasure and one that the receiver needs to really appreciate.
If you don't fully understand you're subject it would be wise to learn it before trying to write about it. Good post Sibyll. Werner
Oh yes, Werner, learn about the subject before writing about it. So true. And nowadays with the internet (and not to forget old-fashioned books!!) it is a lot of fun, too, to research and become lost in your subject. It is like entering another world, no matter what you are looking for, be it asteroids or cooking spoons, there is always something of interest to be found.

Thank you , this is such great information. I'm just beginning to build my website. My website is created to help those who are in my niche learn the easy way to choose products. I had to learn through trial and error. Thanks again!
