Don't Be Dismayed
Be encouraged by what you have accomplished. Don't be discouraged by what you have yet to do.
I remember picking peas as a young boy on the family farm. All I could see was the endless rows of peas. I didn't think we would ever finish and I was certain that "Death by Purple Hulls" would read on my tombstone.
I looked up at my grandpa and said, "We will never get these picked!"
My grandpa smiled and said, "Son, turn around and face the front of the row and don't turn back around. When you can see how far you've come you forget how far you have to go. Knowing your distance is gaining you the strength to keep picking."
I'm sharing this part of my childhood to help encourage you. I know many of you are feeling the weight of how far you still have to go, but I want you to shift your sight. Instead of being discouraged by how far you have to go, be encouraged by how far you have already come.
Now, as that boy, I never lost sight of the ultimate goal. I knew I had to pick all the peas and wasn't free until I got them done; however, I didn't let how far I had to go trap me. I watched how far I had came and in that I knew I was that much closer.
All of this can most definitely be overwhelming. Just to be honest, I wish I was further in the program, but when I look at what I have learned and accomplished I am motivated even more determined to keep picking.
Turn your bucket around and look at how far you have come. You are getting there!!!
Best Wishes,
Shane
