Morning WA Fam!

I’ve noticed a lot of newcomers lately asking where to start. So I thought—what do we do best as bloggers?

We find out what people are looking for, and we guide them to the answer.

And then I thought, what better way to help out than to give my fellow members something good to read this morning.

If you’ve ever wondered what being an entrepreneur really means—or how to take that first step—this one’s for you.

Let’s dive in.

What if your morning started with building your dream, not someone else’s?

That’s where my journey began. I came to Wealthy Affiliate knowing nothing about websites, SEO, or affiliate marketing. But I did know how to work, how to learn, and most of all, how to dream.

And that’s all you really need to start.

Here’s the honest truth:
Yes, you can chase trends, build sites around popular products, and get fast results. Many people here do—and they succeed.

But you can also do something far more meaningful.

You can build a brand that reflects who you are. Something lasting. Something real. Even if that means some people might not understand your vision at first.

They might even call you crazy.
(I know they called me that.)

But the longer you stay true to your path, the more people stop laughing. They start watching. Then they start asking how you did it.

That’s what being an entrepreneur really means.
It’s not just about money.
It’s about freedom.
It’s about building something that matters—to you and to others.

What the Word “Entrepreneurs” Really Means to Me

Before we break down the word, I want to say something straight from the heart.

When I first heard the word entrepreneur, it sounded like something fancy that people with business degrees or big connections would use. It didn’t sound like someone like me.

I wasn’t born into business.
I wasn’t trained for this.
I came from real-world, hands-on work. The kind where you get up early, work long hours, and hope the next paycheck comes before the bills.

I didn’t start Wealthy Affiliate as an entrepreneur. I started as someone looking for a way out.

But over time, this word took on a new meaning for me.

It came to represent more than making money online.
It became a mindset, a daily choice to create instead of settle, to learn instead of quit, and to build something that reflected not just what I knew but who I am.

Being an entrepreneur meant I didn’t have to follow the trends.
I didn’t have to chase what everyone else was doing.
I could choose to build a business that reflected my beliefs, my passions, and my crazy, one-of-a-kind dreams.

It gave me freedom.
It gave me a voice.
And it gave me a future I could shape with my own two hands.

Now, when I hear the word entrepreneur, I think of every person who ever felt stuck, who ever felt like they didn’t fit into the typical career path, and who dared to dream of something different.

This word is not just a label.
It’s a roadmap.
And that’s what I want to share with you today.

What This Journey Really Looks Like (And How You Can Follow It)

E — Explore
Start with what interests you. Trends work, sure. But ask yourself—what do I want to build? What excites me enough to still care about it a year from now? That’s what I did. I explored my own vision.

N — Navigate
Learn the platform. Watch the training, ask questions, and navigate the tools here at Wealthy Affiliate. No one becomes an expert overnight. I sure didn’t. I watched, I learned, and most importantly—I kept moving forward.

T — Test
Put ideas into action. Don’t wait for perfection. Build your first site. Write your first blog. Post your first idea. Test everything. You’ll learn faster by doing than by thinking about it.

R — Research What Others Don’t
Don’t just copy what’s popular. Look deeper. Find what people aren’t talking about yet. That’s where you’ll discover golden opportunities. That’s what I did in the Bigfoot world and in affiliate marketing too.

E — Evolve
Your first site won’t be perfect. That’s not the point. You will evolve. Your skills will grow. Your confidence will build. And what seems impossible today will feel natural tomorrow.

P — Persist
Most people quit. Some stay average. A few persist and rise above. I chose persistence. You can too. Just keep showing up every day—even when the numbers are small and the doubts are loud.

R — Refuse to Conform
Chasing trends can make quick money, but it won’t build your dream. I refused to build something I didn’t care about. I built something that mattered to me. And now, people come to me because they see that truth.

E — Engage and Empower
Connect with others. Help where you can. The Wealthy Affiliate community helped me in my early days—and now I give back. That’s how we grow together.

N — Nurture Your Vision
Your website is more than pages and posts. It’s your future. Nurture it. Treat it like the seed of the life you want to live.

E — Execute (Even When It’s Scary)
Ideas are great. Action builds results. Don’t wait until you’re “ready.” Start building, testing, and sharing. You’ll figure it out as you go.

U — Understand the Process
This takes time. Real businesses are built brick by brick. Wealthy Affiliate is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It’s a system that works if you work it.

R — Rise When You Fall
You will have setbacks. Everyone does. I’ve had posts flop, ideas fail, and even days where I thought about quitting. But every fall is just a step toward growth. Rise again.

S — Stand Out by Innovating
When something doesn’t work, don’t give up—innovate. Find new angles. Try new content. Look where no one else is looking. That’s how you’ll stand out.

Your Dream, Your Timeline, Your Freedom

No one is going to build your dream for you.

But here’s the good news:
Wealthy Affiliate gives you every tool, every training, and every bit of community support you need to make it possible.

It took me from knowing nothing to building something that not only earns—but reflects who I am.

And if they call you crazy along the way?

Good. That means you’re on to something worth watching.

Your dream. Your timeline. Your freedom. Let’s build it.

Great message and breakdown for an acronym, Shawn!

You are truly the epitome of an entrepreneur!

Thanks,

Teri

Love it Shawn! Appreciated as always my friend! :-)

Always appreciate you too, my friend! Glad you liked it. Let’s keep things rolling!

Rolling in the right direction is the only way I roll my friend (well... most of the time anyway) !!! :-)

Oh, I love your acronym for Entrepreneur. Great article and well thought out.

Thank you so much, JarieLyn! I really appreciate that. I’m glad the acronym resonated with you

it’s always fun to find creative ways to break things down and keep the journey inspiring.
Thanks shawn

Well said my brother, well said.

We definitely come from the same background. I wanted to be an entrepreneur straight out of high school. Had crazy awe-inspired ideas but didn’t follow through with them. Ahhhh the pre- internet days. lol

Got a job instead and left those dreams behind. But over the years those dreams never left me. With every job I’ve ever had, there was always one thing missing…..FULFILLMENT!

Becoming a member here at Wealthy Affiliate is empowering me to make those dreams I left behind a reality. Maybe I wasn’t ready for it at 18. I mean seriously, I wanted to be an entrepreneur and a rock star right after graduating. 😬

Now, I have so much more hands-on experiences to share and a way better understanding of who I am. It’s time to share them with rest of the world. If I can help even just person have a better day or teach them something they didn’t know, I can call that a win!

Steve, my man, I can totally relate. Sorry for the late reply. Those early dreams? They don’t die, they just take naps while we collect life experience. Like you said, now we’ve got the mindset and the scars to make things happen for real. You’re already making an impact just by sharing your story. Let’s keep crushing it. Thanks bro, Shawn.

Staying curious is an important step.
Thanks for sharing,
Sami

Sorry for the late reply, Sami. Absolutely, curiosity is what keeps us exploring and growing. I really appreciate you reading and taking the time to share your thoughts!
