I need all the help I can get when I'm cropping, touching up and sizing graphics for my pages and posts. Photoshop Elements 10 is a good program, but it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, and it costs $. Photoshop Creative Cloud has more power, but is even more pricey.

I got by fine with easy stuff, but struggled with chroma-key and other special capabilities, until I found Gimp. Free, open source, and it runs on almost every OS you can find!

There IS a learning curve, but it is not too steep. I recommend you try it. You will love the graphics power it delivers... Here's a link for information and download: https://www.gimp.org/

Thanks a million

Your very welcome, Pablo

Steve - Bookmarked and ready to take for a spin. Thanks for the link.

Happy to share, Patrick

Sftat you are right about the cost of Adobe Creative Cloud it is expensive although they now have a thing where you can pay monthly for like $9.95. I've been using it for almost a year but I also am using Lightroom and Photoshop so it's doesn't seem as expensive. I will have to try gimp though because then I could drop Adobe Cloud.

Thank you for the information always glad to have a way to economize.

My pleasure, Nancy,
I couldn't pull the trigger on Adobe Creative Cloud - especially since I had Photoshop Elements 10, which was mostly more than adequate for me. When I needed more, though Gimp really worked well.
Good luck with it. Hope it saves you some $$

Thanks for this, Steve. Definitely bookmarking this one for when needed.

Randy

Glad to help, Randy.

Awesome!!!!

Photo cropping messes withy head.

Hopefully Gimp will be the solution I need.

Thank you for sharing.

Susan

Glad you can use it Susan. Cropping is pretty easy - I use the rectangle select tool:
Tools > Selection Tools > Rectangle Select,
Then use the mouse to position and size your selection rectangle
then:
Image > Crop to Selection
That's it!

Thank you, Stephen, for taking the time to write out the steps for me.

I am working on a MacBook Pro using the photo program that came with my computer.

I am not having much luck with it.

I found working with photos much easier on my IBM (PC)

The crazy thing is that I bought the MacBook Pro, specifically to work with photos!!!!! I wanted to be able to transfer photos and videos from my iPhone and iPad seamlessly to my computer so that I could work with the images.

I can transfer seamlessly, but editing them is a whole different story!!!!

I have lots to still learn!

Thank you, so much for your help.

I really appreciate it.

Susan

My pleasure Susan,
I hope these steps work OK on a Mac - I use Gimp on Windows and on Ubuntu Linux, but I assume the menus are similar...

Good luck with it, and let us know how it works out.

I've heard of Gimp. One of many things on my to do list!

You won't regret it, but allow time for searching online for ways to do interesting things like chroma-key or image perspective adjustment, etc. Cropping and sizing images are dirt simple, and clone touch-up is reasonably easy, as well.

Thanks for the information :)
Matthew
