Google tools, are you using Google keep?

Recently Stefan put up a blog post about 20 useful Google tools, you can see Stefan's blog post here:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/tolinoli/blog/the-world-of-g...

Most of the Google tools that Stefan has put on his list I hadn't even heard of, I think I counted four tools out of the 20 that I had actually heard of!

Top of the Google tool list is Google keep, this is something that I started using, I would guess five or six years ago and it is something that I find it really valuable and useful and which I use almost every day. I have Google keep on my laptop, which I open on a Google Chrome page, not the app and I also have Google keep on my phone and tablet.

The great thing is with Google keep is that I can use it across devices, so often when I am out and about on my off-line job I can write notes into Google keep on my phone and then for example, I can use Google keep on my laptop to put the notes into a document or an email or whatever, which is really useful and highly recommended.

One of the other products I use a lot is Google translate, my wife is from Greece, so this app is used quite a bit and extremely useful at times!

Thank you for reading and maybe you can give Google keep to try and see what you think.

Enjoy your day.

Thanks for the reminder Roy.

Well, Roy, my impression of Google Keep is that it is just a place to keep your thoughts, notes, and other personal views on a "Google cloud" - which is a very public space.

I prefer to "keep" these on my own computer. I want to be the one to choose what the public sees about my personal (and, sometimes private) interactions.

Just my couple of cents worth.

Jim

Jim the items you put into this are ‘not’ public, they’re just stored in the cloud (much like a LAN drive). Even Microsoft products are moving to storing information in the cloud with Office 365.

With all due respect, Dave...

They may not be "totally public" but, Google and all their employees can see it and use it to enhance their knowledge of you as a user of the internet - and so can Microsoft.

Do you really want that ability made available to them?

I don't think I want to have my head in a "cloud" - or buried in the sand, either.

Jim

Good point Jim! I hadn’t thought of that, but it’s just like a Network Admin having access to all drives/shares in your LAN...

I guess it gets down to how comfortable you are with things and there’s definitely some give and take - with the cloud you gain flexibility with tools like this but there’s a risk that you could have some idea or concept that could get leaked (or even hacked). Or you keep things on your own PC and lose the flexibility to use these tools in all devices at any time...

I hadn’t thought much of this, but I guess if you have something sensitive or something you guard you wouldn’t post to the cloud... I’m like this with my personal information for sure...

Cheers,

Dave

I think there's 2 kind of person:

The first one is someone who is already happy with what they have in term of technology I mean, they don't need all the features like the Cloud.

Most of the time these persons don't even know that their datas are already store somewhere, probably in the cloud.
This is so true When you use a smartphone, once you activate a smartphone you can say goodbye to privacy. All the service and apps you use have access to your datas, you just don't pay attention to it.

All these apps that ask for your permission to access this or that are doing so because they have to. However, I believe they already have the informations.

Just think about that, a lot of services when you subscribe will ask you if you want to suscribe with a Facebook account or Google account, don't you find it strange that you can do so?

Companies like Facebook or Google has what we call API, for us it means nothing, but for programmer they can access a bunch of stuffs on you.

There is tool like Jungle Scout, peoples who sell on Amazon probably know this tool. What it does it scan all the databese on sellers that Amazon store, it can tell you which seller sell what, the quantity per day, the price and so on...

Can you imagine that? Crazy no?

The second type of person is someone like me, I like technology and I want to enjoy what it can offer for me, I like to try and find new things.

If I want to be able to enjoy all these functionalities, I have to say goodbye to my privacy.
This is very clear for me, but I don't mind.

The only thing I want to keep safe is my bank account, it's why I use a bank account for everything online. On that account I don't put a lot of money, so even if I'm hack, it will be a small loss.

And I save some sensible datas on a piece of paper or USB drive and I don't forget to plug it out everytime I shut down my computer.

There's no such thing as privacy today, just take a look at why Edward Snowden is still in Russia, why he doesn't come back in the the US and you will know. Someone is watching you, you just don't know.

If someone want privacy perhaps he or she should live somewhere where there's no phone and internet and even no electricity. Perhaps in Mars? Lol.

I believe things will get even worse with AI, autonomous cars and I don't know what. It's just the begining, but I'm pretty excited with what the futur will bring in, it's potentially dangerous, but also so exciting at the same time.

Life is not mean to be enjoy the same way for everybody. The day I die, I would like to think I had an interesting life and probably no privacy, Lol.

Well, Calvin, I say - to each his own...

I'm not as technology competent as most folks - but, I do know that much of my private life is an open book - especially to internet miners tracking me online.

But, I'm old school - and I try to minimize these intrusions as much as possible.

That is why most of the time, I do my internet stuff in an incognito browser. Maybe that's not helping - but, it makes me feel better.

Jim

Google keep is a great place for keeping reminders. I have it on my smart phone and when I see a small business who can use our services, I make a not of it on keep.

I don't know if incogito browser means privacy, have to check, would be a good idea for an article.

Perhaps VPN is a better solution.

There is one good thing from companies like Google who are tracking us. We can use their tools to get datas about consumers.

I think we have to face a reality, even if we don't like it, when we do business online, no matter the business, we will track peoples, we can't run a business online without datas on consumers.

It's a sad reality, but it's the world we are living in today, a world where reality is becoming less real.

Honestly I like technologies a lot, however, I prefer life in the 90, it was more true, more real, peoples were real.

Personally, Dave, I prefer the old-style use of a pen and paper for my reminders. I always keep them with me wherever I go - in case I have a thought or an idea about a new post. I can quickly jot down a couple of words and keep it for later.

When I get back to my desktop, I transfer everything to an Excel spreadsheet for posterity.

Jim

I too had not hear of a lot of the Google tools. I will be looking at which ones I can profit from.

Thanks as always Roy, for an interesting post.

Good to know, thanks for sharing.

I use the same set of tools, but from Microsoft, yes I'm a Microsoft fan I have to admit.

However, it's always good to have more options.

Google has a lot of interesting tools, I will try Google Home for tanslation, it can be interesting.

I’m the same... This sounds a lot like Microsoft OneNote.

Yes, OneNote is pretty cool. I think you can do that with all the tools included with Office 365.

If you have an Android phone, Microsoft Launcher allow you to do a lot of things also. Start working on a document with Word or other tools and continue with your laptop or desktop.

One of the tool I like most and a lot people's don't use them is Onedrive or Googledrive, it's so useful, you don't need to connect your phone to your computer anymore.

And I love Bing Translator, pretty accurate, as I said I'm a Microsoft guy, Lol.

I have not heard of Google keep before, thank you for sharing Stefan's blog post as well.

best regards,

Kele

I have been using Google Keep on my computer and cell phone for years. I have tried a plethora of information management tools, but in the end, all I really use are an online calendar and Google Keep.

Wow Roy, thank you for such useful information. Some of us are so in the dark about these tools and technique, it helps when you advise us thus...much appreciated.
kindest regards
Khushi

Thanks Roy.

It is done.
Great Idea

Thank you for taking the time to reply Peter, I do appreciate it. I hope that it works as well for you as it does for me!

Enjoy your weekend.

Roy

You sounded as if Google keep is a sort of notes update, while on the go? You don't really explain what it does.

Thank you for taking the time to comment Lanu. Yes, Google keep is like a very simple notebook where we can write notes on the go, I use it all the time across devices and find it really useful. Maybe I should put more detail in my blog post Lanu, I find it really useful and almost use it daily.

Enjoy your weekend.

Roy
