Spending Time On Social Media As An Affiliate Marketer

Today I would like us to discuss time on social media, and how you spend your time on social media as an affiliate marketer. Before I ventured into make money online, I used to spend lots of time on social media, my favorite has always been Pinterest and YouTube, I also used to spend time on Instagram reading my local news and following the latest celebrity gossip.

On Pinterest I used to get there and I could spend a long time just finding recipes and saving them, finding ideas for fashion and just women things like make up and hair, at that time I didn't even know that the material I was saving to my boards, were actually created by people who were running businesses online.

I thought it was just people who liked writing articles on blogs and posting images and texts on social media lol, so I used to repin the pins I liked, and I used to read the articles and if, it's a product that I really needed, and they had links to Amazon, I used to click and buy the products they were recommending.

Social media was not the same for me after I learned affiliate marketing

All that changed when I ventured into make money online these days majority of my social media activity is dominated by educational material, like watching other Affiliate marketers on YouTube, learning new strategies for my Pinterest and YouTube channel growth.

When on Pinterest, if I see a pin that is enticing me to click on it, the first thing I do is study the pin and see why it's so enticing, I study the design, the image and the text as well as the colors, then I pin it to one of my boards, and then I might click and read the article.

Spending your time on social media wisely will help your Business

And since starting my online business I turned my Pinterest into A business account and I had to delete some boards that I had which had nothing to do with my business, I also had to open a new Pinterest account because I am involved in different Niches.

And from what I have learned Pinterest does not like accounts that are involved in multiple Niches, so what this means is that I have to spend time on Canva creating pins for my pintrest accounts, and also I need to create content for my sites.

Which leaves me very little time to watch my funny cat videos on YouTube lol :) OK, I do make time to watch some funny videos but, I try to utilize most of my free time in a way that adds value to my online business.

YouTube Ads Are Making Me Feel Guilty When Watching A Video

I have actually noticed that these days I get very annoyed by those ads on YouTube, when I am watching a video especially if it's a funny cat video, or my other favorite which is the singing contests when people think they can sing and the truth is they can't, I love those kinds of videos.

Anyway, when I see an ad, I skip as soon as I can and it makes me angry and guilty to some extent that I am earning someone some revenue by watching their cat videos instead of working on my website.

My Twitter adventure

As per the super affiliate challenge requirement, part of my task this month was to open a twitter account, which I have done and I am still learning how it works because I had opened a twitter account a few years ago and I couldn't figure out how the platform works so I closed it.

Now I have opened another one and I am working on it, I am not even sure if I am doing things right but I have been following WA members and tweeting, so that's another way that I am spending my time on social media.

I was also reading an article right here at WA, I think it was written by BenjisDad, and he talked about, creating content for other people to consume rather than consuming other people's content, that really got me thinking.

And then I read Kyle's blog where he talked about not being a reader but a doer, and that is actually what I used to be, I used to be a reader, I could read lots of articles online and watch lots of videos but I was not doing anything about what I learn, I was not taking action.

So I am taking action now and it's my turn to post things on social media for other people to consume :)

This Goes To The New Members ( New Affiliates)

I think the best way to spend your time on social media as an affiliate marketer, is by promoting your content and if you see something that can add value to your business, then take a look at it and take action by implementing what you learn.

I'm I saying that since now you have found Wealthy Affiliate you should not spend any fun time on social media? No that is not what I am saying, I am just saying that the time you have to spend on social media, you need to divide it between your fun things and business things.

When you publish a new article, before you grab a drink and your phone to relax and surf the net and watch your favorite funny videos, first grab the URL of your post, and post it on your social media accounts, then get on canva.com real quick and create a pin for your post and pin it to your Pinterest.

Then now you can relax and watch your funny videos in peace lol.

Conclusion

Being here at Wealthy Affiliate has taught me many things and has opened my eyes to so many things, like before when I had not found WA, I used to just read articles or watch videos but now when I read something I am noticing the layout of the website that I am on.

I am also noticing the use of keywords, the website design, image use, links external and internal, I mean I am reading articles differently now, and even when on social media, I can spot a post that is meant for business as oppose to a post that is just for fun.

So, how do you spend your time on social media? I would like to hear your views and opinions, please share with us on the comments.

Thank you so much for your time and if I haven't made you feel bad for spending too much time on social media watching funny videos, please give me a like :)

Great post Ropesa.

Retweet other peoples tweets that you like the look of, that often encourages them to follow you.
I always have a look at someones tweets and retweets to decide whether to follow back. I don't always if I don't like the stuff they retweet.
I was always told that if someone RT's your tweet then you either thank them or RT something of theirs. Personally I prefer the RT.
Once you get to about 10,000 followers or so you no longer have to make the effort to encourage followers, they find you.
A tweet is like dropping a stone into a pond it causes a ripple. Every retweet starts a fresh set of ripples that spread outward. The more retweets, the more people that see your tweet in a widening circle.
Don't know if any of that makes sense.

Yes makes a lot of sense, now I know what to do on Twitter.

Thank you, oh one question does it affect my tweets if i put links on them, links to my website? Also are Affiliate links allowed?

Links are allowed, I always use them. Whenever you have a bit of spare time it is worth building your followers. The more you have the more people who will see what you have to offer.

What you need to do on social media is help others, comment on what others say and like their content. You can use the search of twitter for different niches of your interest and just be active there making friends. Do have a twitter account per niche / site though.

Thank you, I am not familiar with anything beyond Facebook and basically I read other peoples posts. Your experience will help me when I get there

A great article Rose. Funny how your outlook changes as you learn more.

Hi Rose, Great article. I use Pinterest mostly for my social media, not a big fan of Facebook or social media so this was a big step for me lol and I also want to learn how to use twitter as part of the SAC tasks. Onward and Upward!

You make some really great points. Some of it did apply to me. Could you please explain what is Canva? And do I have to make a board for this on Pinterest ? Not really understanding what you mean by this or what to do.

Hi, https://canva.com is a website where you can create graphics for your website, for your Youtube Channel and pins for your Pinterest, it's free to use and it's very easy to use. I actually created a tutorial just recently about how to create a pin using Canva

Awesome Thanks a lot.

You are welcome

Great post Rose
Thanks
Joe
