Now to the actual post...

This Is Easy

First, I want to prepare you by telling you that this is extremely simple.

This will not require effort.

This will not require any brainpower.

You will not need to acquire anything to do this.

This literally takes only 10-20 seconds at a time.

This is so simple that even a 7-year-old child could do this if he wanted.

What Should You Write Down?

Simply write down what you are doing.

For example, I wrote down "I am writing a WA blog post."

And once I finish writing this and start a new activity, I write down the next one, for example, "I am cooking chicken."

Then I write down, "I eat dinner."

Etc. Etc.

You simply write down things that you do.

If you spend 2 hours watching cat videos, you write it down.

If you spend 1 hour in the gym, you write it down.

If you spend 45 minutes buying the groceries, you write it down.

If you spend 3 hours chatting on social media, you write it down.

You write down things that you do to bring to your awareness of what you are doing.

It's like a diary.

But you should write something at least every 30 minutes.

You can write in a way that feels the best for you. No need to do in a specific style. The most important thing is that you track what you are doing!

Then you'll see on paper how you are really spending your time.

Because often you and I may think that we're being productive but we may just be wasting our time doing some things that don't move the needle in our lives.

That's it.

This simply takes 20 seconds each time you write down an activity.

Let's say that you are awake 16 hours a day. Then this whole activity takes 10 minutes a day in total.

In the other words, everyone has time to do this. As Tony Robbins would say, "If you don't have even 10 minutes, you don't have a life."

Why Write It Down?

When you and I procrastinate, we usually tend to put things that we should do away from our minds. We distract ourselves with something else.

You know that you should write a new blog post but you start chatting with your friends on social media or watching a new funny video on YouTube (or whatever you tend to do to distract yourself).

But what if you start writing it down?

How will it feel when you KNOW that you should write that blog post and then you log into your diary, "I am watching a cat video on YouTube."

If you continue that for 30 minutes, you'll need to write down again, "I've watched cat videos for 30 minutes on YouTube."

How will it feel?

Then you do the diary for the whole day and you start noticing where you have really spent your time.

How Long Should You Do This?

Optimally, you'd want to do this for a week but I bet that you'll start seeing the effects almost immediately.

I challenge you...

Try this just for 1 day and see how it feels!

If you can't do this for even 1 day, try this just for 10 hours.

I bet you're gonna start feeling how powerful this is and it will motivate you to do this.

Where Should You Write It Down?

You can choose.

If you prefer to use a pen and a notebook, you can use that.

If you want to use your phone, I found an app called Daybook that makes it extremely easy to write things down and keep this kind of diary. It shows you time and activity very clearly.

Or you can use some Calendar app like Google Calendar if you prefer that.

Roope, I followed this here through your email (list). I must say an interesting and good way to reach others. Well done!

Mel

That's a really great idea, Roope. Doing your exercise should be an eye-opener for many.

I've been doing a program for the last month or so that has you schedule everything you will do during the day, and then you are challenged to keep to your schedule. It has helped me a great deal.

If you want to improve such a thing as your way of using time, it is important to know what you are doing.

Great idea. It must certainly help to keep you focused and not wasting time. I have been doing something similar each day with my business activity log, that I have listed in the attached blog. It really helps to motivate me. Perhaps I will broaden the content to add "watching a dog video, looking at twitter (much less these days - it can be so negative).

Have a great day.

Trevor

Great idea. I know how I spend most of my time. It's with my wife watching TV. Doing the shopping. Preparing meals. Taking care of 3 cats and 3 dogs. Gardening.

She has debilitating arthritis in her hands and needs help with most things.

Being the leader of a State wide woman's organization keeps her very busy running it and communicating with the members.

It's fun seeing her in action solving problems and planning activities that are different now because of Covid 19.

What's left over I devote to my business.

But I will write down what I'm doing every 30 minutes to get the level of scale.

Cheers.

Edwin

Thanks for sharing Edwin

Nice idea, I'll try it.

Great Emma!
