How you will earn money?

There are many ways to make money online...1000's of different ways in fact! The problem is that people often get distracted by the "latest and greatest" product or service and they are never able to build a successful (and revenue generating) business.

Today we are going to run you through one of the most fundamental, yet the most powerful processes of generating revenue online. It is a proven technique, it is one that we use, and one that 10,000's of other WA members use. It is also the ultimate "making money" process that worked 5 years ago and it is going to work 5 years from now and will present as much opportunity in the massive online world as you like

Just one thing before you get into the MONEY "stuff"...

The making money part of your business won't happen quite yet. Before you earn money, you are going to first be focusing on creating your niche website (which will take place in the next two lessons) and the working to get traffic to your website. Without a website, without content, and without traffic, the MONEY doesn't happen.

So don't look at this like a race. You will reach success and a good deal of it, but before you build your own personal SKYSCRAPER of a business, you must first have a solid foundation to build it on. That is going to be our first goal within the Getting Started training. Cool?

Alright, let's continue on! :)

Below is a video walk-through of today's lesson and the process of "how to make money online". Just click the PLAY button to watch it!

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE: How to Make Money Online - The Process Explained

Over the coming days you are going to be working through this process and by the end of this phase of the training you are going to have an awesome foundation in place that will lead you to much greater success.

You are going to have your own website in a niche of your choice. Once you have these things in place, you are going to be able to create as much success as you want online.

Task #1: Understand the Make Money Process

There are MANY different ways that you can earn money online and many different ways in which you can build an entire business. In the coming lessons we are going to be walking you through the following process (and the video above explains it):

View the Full Size Infographic Here

There are 2 billion people (the audience) online and these people are looking (searching) for things all the time. They are looking for information and to buy products. That is where you are going to come in with your website and help these "audiences" by offering them information about what they are looking. You will be "helping" these people and earning revenue in the process.

By Lesson 4 of this course you are going to have your very own website in place that you will use to connect with your chosen audience. You will have your very own piece of the internet and a platform to connect anyone that you want who browses the Internet.

Here is a tutorial walking you through 6 of the ways that you are going to be able to earn MONEY from your website...

Task #2: Create (Write Down) Your Financial Goals

You want to earn revenue right? That is great. In order to earn anything however, you need to have some goals in place.

In this task we want you to join in on a "money goals" discussion here at Wealthy Affiliate. You are going to be telling us what your goals are and going forward, we are going to be helping you achieve these very goals!

QUESTION #1: How much money would you be happy earning?

QUESTION #2: How much would you be ecstatic earning?

QUESTION #3: And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?

PLEASE make 100% sure that you do not skip this step and you revisit this post regularly when you are in need of some motivation. I can absolutely assure you that if you work hard at this and you are persistent towards these goals, you will achieve them. But ultimately it is UP TO YOU!

Join Discussion: What are your "money" goals?

In addition to this, it would be wonderful if you commented on at least TWO other people's goals they have posted within the "goals post".

The awesome part of the community here is that you can network with many other "like minded" people here at Wealthy Affiliate and this is a good way to get this rolling. Remember, this is a community and a very helpful and friendly one! :)

I want to buy my own domain to connect to my website, but it can be hard finding an available domain (smarthome.com was what I was looking for). So I've been using thesaurus.com to come up with alternate words to use instead. For example instead of smart I could use bold, brainy, bright, genius, wise. Instead of home I could use hut, abode, dwelling etc. Still looking to come up with a good combination!

Are you stuck on having a dot com? You could try a dot co. or add an 'a' in front or my or even a number. I have used the .co many times and it seems fine.

Hey everyone, I'm on lesson 8 and I don't really understand what content I'm supposed to put for my page Kyle is asking me to create that is the name of my website.

There are 3 pages I'm to create. The name of my website, About me and privacy policy.

For the page that is the name of my website what am I writing about? What my website is about?

You don't need to create any copy yet, just create the content that Kyle asks you to create in the tutorial (about me page, Privacy policy which is provided and the name of your website).
View it as an introduction to wordpress which you can build on later.

If the name of your website is "BlueDog.Com"

then write that page about BlueDog. Whatever bluedog is to you... what is bluedog's mission?

Think about how other sites that you visit look and are set up.. What do other sites in your niche look like.. You don't want to replicate them, but, it can give you some ideas.

Good luck! Let me know if I can be of any further help ... I'm following you now, feel free to follow me as well.

A couple more question for today :), in trying to learn about this business and understand how it works, is the content on the website that I create meant to just give people useful information and tips about the niche based on research and personal experience? Or is it about promoting/writing a researched information about a company's product and then get a commission on it if it gets sold? Sorry a little confused.

If you speak Russian then you can target an audience or niche in Russia it is much easier to rank there with to right keyword research.

And the way it generates revenue is by people just clicking it and reading it which as a result gets rankings?

No, not necessarily. One of the next lessons tell you exactly how your blog will make you money. It would be too much info for me to type it out here. Make sure you do every lesson and watch every video and listen. I was here 7 months ago but I procrastinated and did not continue and I regret it sooooo much lol. But I'm doing everything over again and doing it right. Make sure you do the same.

I have spent some time breaking down the process in the most simplistic way possible. Success online is at the core a 4 step process and I have broken them down within this video: Broken, down, the process looks like this:

Step 1: Choose your niche
Step 2: Build your website/content
Step 3: Get rankings in search engines (leads to traffic)
Step 4: Monetize your traffic (the make money part, through affiliate programs, etc!)

This applies in absolutely every niche and as you work through the training here at WA, you are going to be walked through this exact process. This is fundamental for ANY success online.

If you have any further questions let me know Olya. :)

It is your website, so you can do it in any way that you would like. These are two different marketing styles of websites that you speak of and you may eventually want to have one of each, but for now just choose one while you are learning the basics.

For this first website that you work on I would pick what you like the best because that will help you stay motivated while learning. Eventually you will gain experience to know how to do websites that appeal to your target audience. Right now the object is learning the process.

The two different types that you are confused between are:

1) Informational Website. This is typically a blog with interesting information on your niche. You would then incorporate advertising (you will learn about that later) and also promote a product on occasion when it fits with the tone of your site. This is a more passive marketing style then the next one.

2) Product Review Site. You can have a website that is purely devoted to product reviews of a certain type. These are usually in the tutorials because these sites are great for getting people that are ready to purchase and so are good for income generation.

(FYI these are my own definitions, they may have "official" definitions that I am not aware of)

It is your business, so you can decide - and since you can have fifty websites here, if your business inspiration wants you to do a different concept, you can do that as well until you find out what works for you.

Hi all, it would be great if you guys could check if my understanding of 'keywords' is on point.

I understand key words as phrases/words that are typed into search engines. In order to get a large volume of traffic onto my site, I will have to incorporate the hottest keywords into my site and generate content around those words.

Am I correct?
Reply
danielangz Premium
In WA we learnt to target low competition keywords instead of "hottest" keywords because when your website is new, it is very difficult to compete with the authority in the industry (i.e. those famous websites). So we aim for keywords with competition < 100.
Reply
To a degree. As per Google and Bing algorithms, good, unique content is much more important than incorporating keywords. Page names and tags using keywords are the lick. See comment below -- good solid advice. You want to find keywords that work for you.

I definitely think it is looking neat and organized. One thing you might want to make use of is featured images.

You should be adding feature images to all of your posts. You can do this within the post editor for each post that you create, down the right hand side below the tags you will see the option to upload a feature image (see attached image for reference)

This will add an image beside your content snippet on your blog roll which makes your blog roll much more visual.

It looks like you blog is your home page. That is the WP defaults. Go to Posts. Look for the Star post and delete it. It looks like you want to create an about page with your Star post in it so before you delete be sure to save your text. Create and About page and paste the text in the About page. Then edit your menu to show the about page. Be sure to update and save at each step

Cj.com and linkshare.com are affiliate networks that have tons of auto related affiliate programs like autozone.com. Amazon also has tons of auto related products to promote and review. So you'll be able to join those networks and find products and companies there. But you won't need to worry about that for a while. You'll need to build your site and start writing a lot of content before you'll be approved for an affiliate program. Because they want to see you actually have a site that will get visitors. So don't worry about affiliate programs quite yet. You'll add those later in the process.

That said I would encourage you to read the following:

That's the best way to get the hang of blogging properly. The training is designed to help you succeed. So don't deviate from it too much especially as a new person.

Essential oils will be my niche. But I'm getting the impression that that is waaaaaay too broad, lol.

Personally, I use essential oils mainly for beauty purposes, and mental clarity. Could those subcategories be a niche?

I'm just confused as to how one would build an entire website on something so specific?

Start off just with what you said about then over time start expanding into different areas within your niche.
You will find it much easier to deal with at first just sticking to a small part of a niche.

Hey guys I have my first question. I need a little help with my idea. I have been involved in network marketing for about 3 or 4 years and I really like the concept. I also have had people ask me questions about which network marketing company is good or which one they should join because they see me as someone who can help in such a field. I love helping people and I enjoy network marketing and it would be great if I could put the two together to make peoples' lives better. So I want to continue by promoting specific network marketing companies that I am involved in which are lucrative and affordable for people to join. Would this be too broad to use for my niche? And what are your thoughts?

Hi. I've been here for about a week and I've gone through Lessons up to here (10). I really don'thave a niche down yet. I actually have 4 ideas but not sure which one to pursue so I'm kind of feeling down and overwhelmed at this point. I don't understand a lot and I'm not sure how far in the process I should be at.
How far in the process are you guys at this point. Are your websites full of content and launched with all the WA ads and such added to your website. Am I totally off base. Someone please help. I'm freaking out.

Ok, so what are you freaking out about? :) That you don't quite understand some of the lessons? Kyle walks us through every bit of it, so take your time until you understand it a little better. You can ask for help in the forums within just about every lesson. To continue to the next lesson, we basically have to finish a task or two directly related to what we just learned, so don't skip ahead until you've finished the check points Kyle asks of you :)

As far as how far along in the process you should be at, you're probably exactly where you're supposed to be if you've completed the tasks that have been asked of you along the way in each lesson.

Your website isn't going to be full of content after a week. It'll look like a bare bones site. That's normal. This is a process. Don't freak out lol. You're going to be ok. Work on finding and choosing a niche and then you'll go from there :)

To help you with guiding you to finding a solution to your problem here's a little advice...

Passion and purpose help guide us to success , no matter what you do there has to be a passion for it and a purpose to you for it to truly become a success . There are also stoppers that hinder these two to getting to their potential in life. These stoppers could be anxiety , self doubt , lack of knowledge and many more. We all battle some type of stopper and it's in acknowledging the problem and finding a solution for it . We all are responsible for finding our own answers for ourselves and guidance from others is key, however the time that it takes for others differ with each person.

What you need to focus on is where are you at right now presently not where others are at as we all have different paradigms, work ethic, skills , and other factors in our life ( parent , fulltime job, family problems , etc) . Be in your present and look at what you have completed and understand and what you haven't completed and don't understand. Write these in a column or a checklist for yourself and then seek for the answers to your issue. Known your weaknesses to strengthen them with your strengths and make a game plan for yourself on what you need to do for you to get to your goal.

Ask yourself these questions

..What am I good at ? ...could be baking , working out..cooking , drawing , frugality, parenting , people skills, making music , etc...

What are the top niches currently ?.( google search top niches .). Money, beauty, weight loss, entertainment , etc

With what I am good at and these top niche list, which niche meshes with what I'm good at?

Here's an example , I'm not good at sports, I like to watch football and golf from time to time or go to the golf course sometimes but that's about it . Let's say the sports niche is really hot right now , and my mindset is only on the money and traffic and I choose to get into the sports niche. ... What is my content going to be about , are my sales pitches going to speak to my site visitors or am I just going to resent doing my site because sports just isn't my thing... I'll more than likely resent it and won't get anywhere.

Choose a niche based on your interests and you won't regret it and you will definitely enjoy doing marketing for a niche and product(s) you believe in and be more persuasive in your bloigs or content because of this.

Remember this when you choose your niche, what's in the heart always comes out

And also

Be patient with yourself , we don't all go at the same pace and its OK , as long as integrity , self value, passion and purpose is involved , you can't go wrong .

All companies pay differently, most offer at minimum check payment. For example here at Wealthy Affiliate we pay via Paypal as our primary payment method, but we can also pay via check if you reach over a certain threshold. :)

As I said though, every company is different and they will state how they pay when you become part of their affiliate program.

Well...here I am...back on the "niche" question. I've changed my mind. Instead of promoting WA, I've decided to go back to my passion. I want to do my best to promote the emotional health of women. It "feels" like most of what was accomplished in the decades of struggle during The Women's Rights Movement aka The Women's Suffrage (circa1848-1998), is being challenged in recent years. Women wonder...why? There are answers for that question, but I believe there are many women like myself that don't understand what the plan is. What do those bringing this down on women have in mind? There are men...& women, in regions of North America that live by the old ways. That's not even close to what's going on right now in the upper-crust world of the suits & ties. For all those that feel demoralized, discounted, devalued...all those D words, we are WOMAN! There is no other human with the will to survive as strong & lasting as the female species.

That's great, let your passion drive you and motivate you. The promoting of WA will come next. That's what the Affiliate Bootcamp is for. Or like some you can have a small link or banner on your page to promote Wealthy Affiliate. Always go with your heart first and everything else will fall into place.

I'm kind of skimming through these lessons again as it's been a while since I've been able to work on what I'd like to do with my websites.

I saw that posts will likely go to the home page. I'd like my homepage to stay static (and I've chosen a theme that allows it), but is there a way to allow my posts to go to individual pages? For example, this will be a history site. Can I make posts to my page on ghosttowns and also make posts to my page on battlefields? Or, I should rephrase that. I know I can do it because I've worked with Word Press at a newspaper. The question is HOW do I do it?

I'm slowly moving along I found about 28 keywords the other day that are in the parameters over 50 searches and under 150 QSR some even lower than that, in the QSR and today I started to dig on those keywords and I was able to find about 5 more so when I start with content I will have more choices to fit them in.

Also this is the farthest I have been able to get in the WA without pulling all my hair out. It's ABSOLUTLY makes it easier when you find the niche that you love, content will be the hardest for me but one step at a time.

Hi all! Rather than having no niche ideas, I have too many! My original idea was to pursue family photography since it's something I'm interested in and am currently pursuing as a side business. My problem, though, is that I am a newbie photographer and I feel like it would be more labor intensive to come up with content since I am still learning myself. I also feel like my passion for photography can fluctuate based on how much time I have to put into learning after my full time commitments.

My other ideas include things like treating health conditions I'm managing, home making topics like cooking and meal prepping, and pet parenting. I'm concerned that those topics don't have enough product to promote and I'm having trouble picking one over the other.

Any thoughts or advice? Thanks so much for taking the time to read!!

I started a photography site a number of years ago and wrote reviews etc. I also had a blog page along side it that was called putting into practise what I have learned.

Hello Emily...

Choose a niche you have a PASSION for, even if you're just a beginner. It will keep you fresh and searching for new ideas and things to write about. You can branch out as you grow.

Your site will grow with you. As you find ideas, they will lead to others. If it's your passion, you'll be so excited...you'll have plenty of new ideas and gadgets to write about...and product comparisons for your audience.

You'll be able to give them cutting edge advice on what works and what doesn't. You could even document a trip or vacation with a product you're reviewing. So many ways you can go with this...

Blessings on your choice and your journey here on WA and beyond!

I don't know if there's enough products to promote, but I know I hit recipe sites weekly. I love the idea of not having to clutter my house with recipe books (which I still have from before the internet).
Something else, I'm certain there are products to promote for pets. I have several and I'm constantly looking stuff up. especially right now as I have an elderly dog at the end of her life. I have read so many articles on when its okay to have my dog put down (we haven't done it yet as we are still struggling with the guilt and loss. I hate to even write it down, but I'm afraid she'll be gone very soon.) Also, I have looked up information on the medications her doctor has prescribed. As well as ordered products like flea/tick pills/drops, even sprays for my house including natural remedies like borax.
Health conditions: I have a few. And let me tell you, I am constantly reading about them and what I can do to help myself. I take vitamins and herbs (actually I'm seriously thinking of creating a niche concerning my health issues and what I do for them). I know there's a market out there.
You've totally got this. I'm pretty new here too. But I can think. I am a consumer. If you ever need a sounding board to bounce ideas off, well, I'd be glad to help.

Geez. You make it sound simple but there are still millions of niche options. It's like a treasure hunt without a list of items. How specific are we talking, here?
This was my idea: I recently finished a medication treatment and have a lot of tips for people considering / on that specific medication. (For example, side effects of the meds include dry skin and lips. I could recommend with moisturizers really worked for me while undergoing the treatment.) Is that something that would work?
Reply
cramervod Premium
For just the type of medication? I think you should be a bit broader and talk about the condition you experienced. Then a category about medications so you don't make it too specific.
Reply

Now that you say that I can think of so many more things to talk about if I broaden it to the condition and not just the medication. I was so stuck in the 'be specific' mindset that I wouldn't have thought of that without your comment. Thank you so much!

Your welcome. And this way if medications change or something is better that comes out you can easily change your site with updates rather than having to start a brand new site.

I think you should make it your start point. From there other niches will evolve. To me, the best niche is the one you can talk about without learning anything because you have lived it. Start there, then move forward.

God bless and welcome to the community.

Hi, Kyle,

I'm was just running through the course again and discovered that you used to create websites by coding. I have been coding also, it helped me to get an understanding what's involved in manually building a website.

I got a question about converting HTML over to be WP system. How did you do it?
Reply
Kyle Premium
That would be very manual, you would want to copy and paste the content. I actually let all of my old websites "phase out" that we were HTML based and I have been using Wordpress exclusively for many years now.
Reply
seconds2work Premium
I know when I'm done with this project, I will be able to do any kind of website a client throws my way.

What would make me want to learn how to build a website this way is a personal achievement and spiritual enhancement. Plus, there seems to be a small market of people wanting to convert their website from HTML to WP compliant.

I can't wait to share it with the community. Thanks for the reply

My main goal is to make a couple hundred a month, I'd be happy with a couple hundred a month, I wouldn't know what to do with a couple thousand in a month. I just wanna be financially stable so I can work a part time job and do this on the side to make a comfortable living.

Nice starter goals Lukas...

But don't sell yourself short. You just might find this to be your passion you'll wanna do full-time, who knows? It's only a part time job, if you want it to be. ;)

Stability comes in different packages. Many full time 2 wk paychecks are not stable..if you're laid off, you're not stable, if you know what I mean!

Have fun with your training, we're all here with you and Kyle and Carson have made the training a no brainer!

So apparently you rank better on google if you build your own domain than if you were to use siterubix. My question is... Do you rank SIGNIFICANTLY better if you use your own domain or is it minuscule?

If you noticed in the video where he is showing us his "how not to get scammed" website, it is his own domain because it doesn't show the siterubix dot com
Reply
ericcantu Premium
The truth is that, while of course you can bring in income with a properly put together siterubix.com site, Google is looking to rank authority sites. It's not so much that Google has made some rule to reward .coms, it's that the audience you're targeting tend to flock to paid domains cuz they see it as being professional. They see that you have invested into your site and they trust it. So through that, the .com gets more hits, more traffic, more click throughs, etc. and Google sees this and rewards it.

I am sad to see this video because it did not provide English subtitles (similar as closed captions) I am frustrated already! Today's 2017, not 1917. I ask myself if I will be successful by learning many wonderful tips without reading English subtitles. I am Deaf. By the way, Hearing aids do not help me at all. I am not able to hear or talk. But I write English. I know that my English is ok-ok. I am pretty good at reading English.
I wonder if all videos and live video classes will have available English subtitles.
I do not know if I will stick to Wealthy Affiliate because I noticed few people here in the past asked for English subtitles on videos. Interesting, no one approached about it. It looks like that they stay away from it as "an elephant in the room".

I need your help on this.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

If the domain is already taken, you will have to come up with a new domain name.

You can use the domain because it has an extension attached to it

Hi Guys,

I am kind of confused on what exactly my niche be. I have been on a journey from eating a bad bad diet to a clean one, I have been on this journey for the past 10 years, needless to say I have loss weight, I feel amazing and my life in general has dramatically change. Two months ago I finished my studies in the Institude of Integrative Nutrition. So I am a certified Health Coach. I wanted to start a Blog about my journey from Fat to skinny. (healthy) , Also I have been saving recipes I made up, because I feel people need to learn how to make delicious healthy meals.. I can honestly say I am the happiest when I use my imagination and create a recipe for a salad. So with all this said I don't know what exactly my niche is. Please help!!!

I see why you're a bit confused here. What would you say is your #1 goal with your experience. Is it to teach people to live a healthier life or to be a food blog with a focus on healthy meals that anyone can make.

Over time your entire experience is going to play a part but in getting things started to try to focus on a specific area first and then expand on it later.

To be honest you could probably get away with going at that as a general niche, but to laser target it you could look at specific things like "cutting belly fat", "getting 6 pack abs", "how to run 5k from nothing", "how to run a marathon"... Those are just a few ideas :)

Hello Andres...
Why not make it more specific...like Tall men's fitness goals...or diabetic fitness goals? Come at it from a specific angle to help those who are maybe not getting help elsewhere. Does that make sense?

I like the cutting belly fat, it's broad, but very easy to narrow at the same time, because there are limitless ways to do this, from choosing the right diet, and the types of workouts, weather a person chooses to lift weight or if they prefer calisthenic workouts , but I could also help those people who have very little time to workout, make the best of the time they have to work out. I am starting to get pretty excited now that I have ideas running through my head. Thanks to both of you.

Hello Johnnique...

You can find free training through the search box at the top, but it may take you longer without the Premium package because you will be very limited. There is so much more through your premium membership, and at a Very LOW cost to begin an internet business of your own. Also it limits your ability to get help when you need it. But I've been told it can be done...it's just harder.

I like the easier road of getting all the help I need with Premium...so much available for such a crazy low cost. I consider it an investment in my amazing future online.

I've added my Privacy Policy page and the All-in-one-SEO check boxes that should be checked on for this page are different than in the video. This is what I'm seeing (probably due to an update since the video was created)...

Robots Meta NOINDEX
(Check this box to ask search engines not to index this page.)

Robots Meta NOFOLLOW
(Check this box to ask search engines not to follow links from this page.)

Exclude From Sitemap
(Don't display this page in the sitemap.)

Disable on this page/post
(Disable SEO on this page.)

Disable Google Analytics
(Disable Google Analytics on this page.)

Kyle checks on four "Robots Meta" boxes, but I am only seeing two specifically. Have some of them been renamed in an update? Should any of the others be checked?

Thanks to anyone that can help!

I have a question. I just joined an affiliate program for my niche. The program wants me to upload an html file to my site and visit the page for validation. I know how to do it with the x10 free hosting that I use for my PTC referral pages that I make but how would I do that in siterubix? I'm guessing that it isnt possible is it?

My site rubix page is gold-n-silver-investing [dot] siterubix [dot] you know what

They want me to upload /84b9a558f0b06e1acba784587f242b7fa46a248d [dot] html

Then I have to visit gold-n-silver-investing [dot] siterubix [dot] you know what [slash] 84b9a558f0b06e1acba784587f242b7fa46a248d [dot] html and visit the page in order to verify that gold-n-silver-investing [dot] siterubix [dot] you know what belongs to me.

(Sorry for the weird cryptic form of my site but as a free member I am not aloud to include links, which by the way I need to include them in order to ask the question)

This is not possible is it?

Am I going to have to create a re-direct from my x10 site to my site rubix site in order to upload the html file and validate it?

I think death is difficult at any age...we don't want to let go. I often reflect back and wish for a second they were still here...and then think...no it was probably better for them than languishing away due to old age.

Any suggestions or input will be highly appreciated.

A niche can honestly be anything, what are you passionate about? What are you interested in?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

PS. Never worry about competition either, you are absolutely going to have an upper hand over any competition by being a member here at WA.

I think creating the first website can be overwhelming because of trying to decide which theme is right for the niche you have chosen. It can be difficult knowing if your first choice will be the right choice and then the knowledge that you'd have to re-do it all if it seems to look 'wrong' can be discouraging. I guess that's where determination comes in.
