Can't decide to quit my job I have had for 25 years or not.
My wife's parents are in bad shape. We need to move from Nebraska to North Carolina. Her father has a reverse mortgage. I have a nice profit sharing i could cash in to pay both cars off, all bills, buy a house in North Carolina and pay that damn reverse mortgage off and have some remaining after all the taxes and penalties. Then while I'm on severance pay for 25 weeks hope i find a job...... Do you think this is a good idea or not. Need some advice.

This is a difficult decision not to be taken lightly. It sounds like you should spend some time with your spouse and decide what is best for all of you.
Sounds like with a bit of out of the box thinking, you might be able to turn that 50 acres into a full time profession for yourself, take care of the in-laws and even get to spend some quality time with your better half.

We do love our family and value every relationship. We do as much as we can to help every member of our family.
on the other hand, benefits of an employee are blessings that come after our perseverance and diligence. This is part of our hope and expectations after we have invested our efforts, time, and talents. I think we deserve to receive these as it is stated and contained therein by the contracts we signed.
If possible, the family should talk about it and make arrangements that would not compromise either.

I think you probably know what you're going to do yourself - maybe it's just a little hazy right now because there is the possibility of so much change about to happen.
From a purely financial point of view - it sounds like you know "where you are" - but would speaking to a financial advisor be a prudent move? Maybe get an independant view on the whole situation? I don't know what profit sharing is - but will cashing it in, stop you from doing something you had planned to do in the future? If so, the FA may be able to offer some solutions you haven't thought of.
If you leave your job - do you still get severance pay? (if you are made redundant in this country - UK - you get a pay-out - if you just quit your job, you don't - unless it's a mutually agreeable thing for you and your employer, in which case there may be some arrangement for a payout).

Company will pay one week per year of service. Im going to ask them if they will let me move. I been working from home the past 30 months anyway. But last time i asked them about 18 months ago they said no. Profit sharing is the same as a 401k except the company can contribute 15% of profit to per tax year and its all invested in about 3000 stocks. It grows a lot faster than 401k.
Very difficult decision Rodney. Only you can make the ultimate decision. Is the move to North Carolina really necesary? Can't you just pay off the debt or do you need to be close to them? Good luck! Lydia.
That does make it difficult. You would actually feel guilty to refuse. I think Hari has given you good advice. Are there no other siblings that can help?
The others could care less. On the kinda upside. Paying the reverse mortgage off and taking care of them Guarenties we would get the house and the 50 acres with it. Its a 3 bed 3 bath brick house with a 2 car attached garage.
It never ceases to amaze me how some just don't care. I get the feeling though that for you it's not really about what you'll be getting out of the deal, but that you and your wife actually care.
Now, nobody can tell you what to do, but I'm very close to my in-laws. And if they wanted me to take care of them, I wouldn't think twice.

Yes we do care. I just hate the idea of quitting but i also don't like being 23 hours from my wife. Its been a month and thank god she is flying home tomorrow night. I miss being able to hold her.
That's really tough, I understand your dilemma here. You're actually being torn in two at the moment. These kind of decisions are never easy. Hope it all works out soon.
I know you are a bit confused with this major decision but all I can advice you is that the confusion arises when we know what is right but fear about what will happen later on, what I feel is that if you have the self confidence and strong belief to find a better job then you must go with it without thinking further..if the fear is there then you should work on to overcome the fear first because then only you can have the power to make things right.. Sounds as if you're in a financial position whereas you may be able to quit your job and help out with your family. Family is so important. You have to weigh the pros and cons and like Christine said, pray for wisdom in making your final decision.
