Has anyone else's traffic tanked today? Is it because it's Thanksgiving?

Yeah, it's that way every year. Unless there are specific deals offered by a specific merchant on Thanksgiving, people just don't go online. However, if you do have a merchant who has Thanksgiving Day only specials, be sure to highlight those to your audience and you can do great! I know there was a special I wanted at Costco, and though I was barely online yesterday, I definitely didn't miss that special deal!

It is a good possibility it coould be because of Thanksgiving, Rob!

I have not noticed but I continue to update blog with content addressing issues in relation to your niche website and sharing onward social media platforms.

Hi Rob happy Thanksgiving! Most niche sites that get traffic in the US slow down around this time due to the holiday. If your high rankings for your site are still in the same positions, then it's definitely Thanksgiving that's the issue here which is normal.

My nature site is seasonal too and around November takes a hit in traffic (not rankings) because people are less inclined to be outdoors as it gets colder.

Probably. But it's not Thanksgiving in other parts of the world. It will go up over Black Friday, so there is no need to worry. It's just the way it goes sometimes.

How can content from one article of your website be considered duplicate content to another article on your OWN website?

If you copy your post and give it another keyword title it is the same content used twice. If you find that you wish to use some content multiple times, it is best to create it once and link other pages to it because two posts with the same content will not help your site to rank. You will want to create posts with unique content so that your visitors can get the help they look forward to receiving.

No, I'm not doing that at all. I believe the duplicate content has to do with the words in the descriptions of the Amazon products. I thought t was fine to use the Amazon descriptions of the products.

Ah! It is best to create your own description. Change words, their order, add something. What is it that makes this product special, unique..

When it comes to product features. Don't just copy them. State why each feature makes a difference. Features are there for a purpose. State the purpose.

I agree. Thanks :-)

You are welcome.

Interesting, I did not know this either!

Hi Rob, great to see you! Generally speaking duplicate content on YOUR OWN site is not an issue, although I would advise trying to make content unique. Duplicate content is generally a penalty applied to when someone copies content from a different site (not their own).

google is ranking each article on its own merits ...
so if you have two articles targeting the same or very similar keywords or with a lot of the same words then you are competing with yourself....
google will either ignore all bar one post or drop your site from ranking....
you can have as much duplicated content as you wish on your site ...if and only if you don't want to rank highly in google...
if you want organic traffic you have to play by their rules...
have fun
phil

If copied and pasted from an external source. Plagiarism is frowned upon by Google.

No Abie, I'm talking about the same words you may use in two of your own articles :-)

I try not to use but change the content however feasible and relevant, that's what I would do.

However, if the case may be, they are yours original in your own words, you can use again.
