Low Quality Content
Reviews And Posts - Are You Saying Enough - Lets Shine Some Light On The Ugly Truth?
Hello Folks
Having been asked to take a look at newbie sites and asked for my opinion I have seen that on many of these sites the content has not been all that great. This is mainly because there wasn't enough of it. Not a lot of information to hold my attention if I'm being blunt about it. After a wee bit digging I took some really useful information from the net and this blog is the result.
Poor site content, or as Google describes it, THIN CONTENT can be a real website killer, and leave your site looking like a Ghost Town.
In my opinion there is no worse way than to have a visitor land on a page promoting something that contains little to no information about the product. This lack of info is the first sign that the shopper will be better off going somewhere else, and believe me, they will.
To keep a shopper’s interest and gain sales, its really necessary to have an engaging and accurate description of the product.
This does not mean you simply copy and paste the vendor/merchant's home page description.
To convert visitors to buying customers the most important thing to do is spend some time thinking about what information that a customer would want to know about the product before buying it.
Ask yourself, what would you like to know about anything you are being asked to pay good money for? This is the type of information that you should be drafting. Write for yourself if you can't think about anything else. Think about all the questions you would want answered.
Of course you can write the same thing over and over again for every post you publish. But Google will punish you for this because it would in essence be duplicate content. This is because Google would have a problem assigning authority to one page over the next.
Therefore: Posts with little actual informative text but using too many keywords are a big NO NO. As are posts that offer little of value and are unhelpful. Lets not forget those doorway pages - that send people to a different location entirely and are usually used as spam by far too many so called experts.
These practices are by no means all that you should steer clear of doing.
Google has a support page here for Webmasters
My advice to you is to have a look at your site before you publish anything else and see what if anything needs changing.
How To Find Out If Your Content Sucks
There are quite a few ways to check your site to see if anything does need changing.
The best way is to do an operator search.
For this, you merely need to go to Google and type in -
site:http:// your web address here - this is an example and doesn't go anywhere so pointless clicking it. And don't forget, although I have them - NO Spaces.
You should be able to see all the posts that Google has indexed.
You should then go to the last page and click on Repeat The Search With The Omitted Results Included.
This should list everything and ensure none of your pages have been left out.
There you go folks and after reading this and the info through the links and of course doing a check of your site the message is clear. Take the time to write up good informative reviews and articles.
Have a great week and please leave a comment below if you have anything further to add.

Extremely helpful post Robert. Low quality content is responsible for failings in the publishing world and we surely don't want it here!
Hi Mike and thank you for dropping by.
Sooner or later the search engines will catch up to poor content sites. Just make sure you're up there with the best is the best advice I will give anyone.
Onwards and Upwards Mike and have a good one.

Damn cold today though Mike, and reports of ground frost up north.
Still its almost Christmas so what can we expect lol.

I tried to open the site (http://yourwebaddresshere.com) but got this: "This site can’t be reached"
Grace its an example of what you should type into your browser.
its just the WA system that fools you into thinking its an actual link.
I have changed it now so nobody else clicks it.
Robert
Great advice, Robert! I've been lucky with most WA sites I've checked out - they were usually thorough, helpful and a pleasant surprise. But some clearly need this advice.
And the tools you provide are great for all of us.
Thanks again,
Steve

What do you think, Robert -

Enough weight?

One small criticism.
I wouldn't have pics/images on the left side of the page.
Not good for Mobile devices, especially phones as they would have to scroll sideways and a lot of people would have a problem with that.
Apart from that its looking good.
Robert
Thanks Robert. You have poked me to view my blogs and pages with my phone - something I rarely do, but should. Since my top target visitors are scientific and technical business folks I think of them using a laptop or desktop - that is obsolete thinking, so thanks for the poke. I've heard this advice about left side images before, but I like the look - I will find better ways of formatting.
Steve
Great informative post that should be a must read by all. Will be doing some home work for the rest of the week. Thank you Robert.
Bishop.

Thanks, this is helpful! When I tried that I saw a bunch of posts I did in Reddit so that proves to be a beneficial channel. Cheers.
Hi Dawna and thank you for your input.
Yes Reddit can be a great source for advertising and also for helpful information.
I recall I published a blog on this last year.
Have a good Tuesday and be successful.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for all this helpful hints. I am sure much of what you said applies to my sites as we are having a problem with ranking (or lack there of). I will study these hints carefully.
Bill
No probs Bill and yes go over your site and make changes if required.
It will also not do your posts any harm if you re-publish after you have made those changes instead of the usual update.
Thank you for reading my blog and have a great day.
