I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on organizing your LinkedIn profile.
Should we have more than 1 that suits each niche?

I don't see any LI connection on your profile Dawna. Your current posts use the word "hacks" a lot. That could be a turnoff in some circles. Tips is a better alternative. Visuals and format is great!
Thanks I was using it a lot to reinforce my brand 'holistic hacks' but yah that can get repetitive. I did not post my linkedin profile I just had a question if we should have more than one account. Thanks.
Hey Dawna,
Yes, sharing your links with specialized groups would work best, providing the group(s) is(are) related to any link you would offer that group.
Thanks for your response, what I meant was should we have more than 1 LinkedIn profile to match our niche? My current profile does not necessarily match with my niche and If I post niche related stuff it might be a conflict with my personal image with prospective employers. Does that make sense?
Ahhh ... okay Dawna,

Dawna - I'd stay away from LinkedIn if you have professional pursuits beyond your niche.
LI is a professional employment network and could harm your chances of finding work if potential employers see you have other pursuits.
Now if you are not looking for employment and your main focus/work is your niche, then yes there is great potential.
Great thanks Patrick for the advice. I was wondering if it would be a good option to set up another 'alias' account but there is a lot of work involved in that.

Hi I have a question not sure if it can be answered but I am stumped. So I linked externally to a highly authoritive site 'webmd' and now I am getting referral traffic from it.
They must have seen people coming into their site from your site (analytics) and reacted upon it by checking you out and perhaps linking back to you in one of their articles. Or just them visiting you. .not sure.
awesome though!
That's great!! Keep up the great work because obviously they thought your content was good enough to link back to it. Thats awesome!!

Curious about external links do you get referral traffic?

I've been researching and came across a video, one of the Google guys himself said tags are a waste of time it kinda is a form of keyword stuffing to them. So i won't be doing
Can you share the video by the Google's guy? I have completely different info from another Google's guy, and I use tags all the time and get ranked through tags. You will be missing chances.
Categories are for your visitors' navigation, useful and necessary.
I will have to look for it again. How do you get ranked through tags how can you track that? I also heard Jay from Magistudios discussing tags and that he doesn't use them maybe he can weigh in here?
If you add a tag in the post then you can search incognito using this same tag and you may see your post ranked.
Dawna, many believe duplicate content is overrated, and even a myth from Google's standpoint. Here's Jovo's article leading to a You Tube by a Google executive Duplicate content issues For additional perspective, here are some great answers to my question on the topic about one month or so ago How do we know if google penalizes us for duplicate content?
You should never keyword stuff tags nor categories, that said, tags do have a use, they help your visitor find specific content when they use the search function on your site.
It's fine to use categories to group posts together and put them on the menu, it's one of the core functions of Wordpress and the majority of sites use it that way, it doesn't create duplicate content. :)
Good to know i was paranoid about that be because some of my posts have affilate links then i have those posts in my categories on my menu so i was hoping this wouldn't tank my seo.
If you run any affiliate site, posts must contain affiliate links. Google knows this so this quite normal. I would not worry about affiliate links. All my top ranked posts have many links, sometimes more than 10, in particular those of the type "top 10" or "top 15". And they sell a lot..
