ABC's of Writing a Great Blog Post Title
It has been said that there is a real art to writing a great blog post title.Did you know that your title is one of the most important conversion factors for converting website visitors into purchasers? Great blog post titles are both interesting and appealing. Great titles represent what is contained in your article and if at all possible, should convey the benefits of reading your post.
Writing good titles is somewhat of an art. Like an art, your ability to write high-converting titles will improve with experience.
Use the ABC Method for Writing Great Blog Post Titles
One way writers have of deciding upon a title is to use the ABC Method. “A” stands for “accuracy”. Make sure your title accurately represents what is in your article. Here are a couple of examples:
·“Top 5 Natural Remedies for Relieving Arthritis Pain”
·“7 Easy Steps for Making Beer At Home Without Busting Your Budget”
It’s easy for the reader to see what information will be contained in each of these posts.
Build Interest
“B” stands for “Building Interest”. A good title should whet the readers appetite and entice them to read the report summary and read your article. A title like, “How to Launch a Money-Making Website Without Spending a Dime” builds some curiosity. It is both appealing and interesting.
Communicate Benefits
“C” stands for “Communicate the Benefits”. When someone reads the title of your article, you want them to quickly see what benefits could be achieved by reading your post. Remember, people are emotional. Most buy from emotion rather than logic. If your title conveys an emotional benefit, it will convert better.
“Get Fast Profits From Your Home Computer” is more appealing than “17 Steps To Earning Money By Working From Home”. The first title speaks about “quick profits” which translates into more money to spend. The second title sounds more like hard work.
As an aside, if you are writing an article that is about a process or steps to take, keep your numbers under ten. More than nine conveys a level of difficulty. On the other hand, if you are writing an eBook or whitepaper, people expect you to be more thorough so something like “12 Steps to Financial Freedom” could be more appropriate.
Don't Forget Buyer Psychology
Keep the psychology of the buyer in mind.If I am someone who is looking for quick information on how to solve a problem, I don’t want to read a lengthy 15 step report. If on the other hand I am a person who is looking for a way to change the direction of my life I expect more than 3 steps and a few hundred words.
Study the titles written by famous copywriters and well-known marketers like Jay Abraham or Dan Kennedy and you will quickly see how the titles they write are accurate, how they build interest and how they communicate the benefits.

Sound advice Rebecca. I'll take that on board. My last post/blog fizzled so I now see why!
The title is only one component of writing a great article. Try changing your title but make sure to include the main keyword you want to rank for in your title. Then develop your article using your main key word in the first paragraph and a couple more times in your article. But the first rule is "write for people"...write for your audience....give them the information they are looking for.
I'm not sure what you mean by "fizzled"....nothing is instantaneous in the internet marketing world. ~Rebecca
Thanks for posting this. I know I need to really work on my post titles and especially the h2 h3 headers. I think I can remember this A-B-C method :)
