Vulnerability is a Superpower

Vulnerability is the state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally. There also several types of vulnerability:

  • Social
  • Economic
  • Environmental

⭐People who live in Los Angeles are more vulnerable to congested freeways than other states. More road rage. (Environmental vulnerability).

⭐People in countries with less resources are more vulnerable to food shortages. (Economic vulnerability).

⭐Content Creators who cut-and-paste from ChatGPT are more vulnerable to be penalized than content creators who write original content. (Social vulnerability).

Unfortunately, we've been conditioned to ignore or deny vulnerability. We are hard-wired to be strong. Boys are not supposed to cry. Not anymore.

Vulnerabilities Equal Strength

Although vulnerability is a difficult practice to understand, it has shifted from a neglected thought to a cherished goal. "The Power of Vulnerability" by Brene Brown, a world-famous Psychologist, went viral on YouTube. Her message is "out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength."

Nowadays, it is OK - There is a Seismic Shift.

While sitting in the waiting room, waiting to have my yearly mammogram, I found an amazing article by a young author and motivational speaker, Nick Santonastasso. He is presently in a committed relationship despite the fact that he has only one arm and no legs. But he doesn't focus on what he doesn't have. He has reverse engineered his disability and lives a happy, full life. He explains his perception of leadership.

"Leaders will see a breakthrough when they let people see that they aren't bulletproof, when they are honest about mistakes, or areas of growth and when they create a safe space for other people to be vulnerable. Leaders can pave the way toward a more human workplace, building a thriving and open culture."

Examples of Vulnerability:

  • Asking for help
  • Trusting a confidant
  • Being the first to open up.
  • Speaking your truth
  • Getting emotional (crying)
  • Sharing a personal story

Hello Rachele, I think it is when we are feeling vulnerable that we see our hidden strengths shine through.

Although it can be a scary feeling, it opens the mind for what else is possible!

I appreciate that both female and males need to share their feelings in a safe environment.

Kind regards
Erica

Erica,

You hit the nail on the head, my friend. It is scary and at the same time liberating. Hidden strengths do shine through. Beautifully said. We all have the vulnerability gene; both male and females, no one is exempt.

Have a wonderful week,

Rachele

Thanks so much Rachele!

You have a wonderful week also :)

Erica

A great read as always Rachele...

I believe we are all vulnerable at times, we are only human after all and young Nick here is a shining example of not letting his vulnerabilities get in his way on the road to success...

I'm not sure about being "taught" to cry, but... in my opinion crying is an emotion that we all should experience, through happiness or sadness my friend! :-)

That is very true, Nick

Thanks my friend!

🙋‍♀️

👍😊

Sweet!👍👍

Savoury!!

That man is a shining example of resilience, Rachele!

Jeff

Tell me about, JB

He is very successful because of his positivity and mindset.
Rachele🥰

Yes, he is, indeed, Rachele!

When we’re authentically honest with ourselves, we are vulnerable. Culturally it’s discouraged, but why shouldn’t boys cry…it’s a healthy, basic human emotion for release. Great post, Rachele.

Susan

Susan,

I love your wisdom.
That is an excellent description of vulnerability I hadn't considered. I agree that crying is a basic emotion that we all have, boys and girls.

Rachele

Thanks, Rachele. Most appreciated. 🤗

🥰

Nice post Rachele. People like Santonastasso are the people I admire. Not pop stars or the Kardashians of the world. People like Santonastasso - he was dealt some bad cards in life and dealt with 'em. He is the sort of bloke I would invite to a dinner party and shut my gob to listen to him.

Two ears and one mouth - use them in that order ;-) I would with that guy 100%.

Paul

Paul,

You have just been promoted to the WA resident philosopher.
You have a way with words. This is why Nick is so successful. It was probably in his DNA to begin with.
