08 March - Celebrate International Women's Day!

With this year's theme, we can all help women to realise their limitless potential. The other time, Loes made a post about whether WA was a man's world. Without a doubt, success here is across gender and it really depends on the hard work and effort you put in.

I remember celebrating this every year when I was still working for a big company, and everyone looked forward to the invitation. There will be forums and talks revolving about each year's IWD theme. And its fascinating to see that in each event, there will be a small number of men participating as they are also interested in the issues discussed. They have also said that there are also certain points that are applicable to them. Some even wondered why there's no International Men's Day. Lol.

We also made a conscious effort to have some leadership development programs targeted for women as there was a shortage of women leaders overall. It was mostly male dominated.

Now that I'm a SAHM, I'm realising more and more how important this is. I have heard so many comments from other moms that they are finding it harder and harder to look for a job after giving birth because there is an unspoken bias against moms with kids. Now, maybe they should just join WA and start their own online business, right?

Anyway, you can add a small little thing to your to-do list today and pledge for parity. Here's the link - http://www.internationalwomensday.com/Pledge

  • help women and girls achieve their ambitions
  • challenge conscious and unconscious bias
  • call for gender biased leadership
  • value women and men's contributions equally
  • create inclusive, flexible cultures

Happy International Women's Day!

Success does not discriminate against gender, it is something anyone can seek out and achieve, there are certainly more woman in leadership roles here in Scotland our first minister in government is a woman, and historically the UK has had a woman to lead it ..

I think success has nothing to do with gender. It's all about how willing you are to study, learn, application, determination, perseverance etc.

Thanks for the reminder Raquel, my pledge is not there.

The most simple one, I pledge for the right to equal education worldwide for women

So I choose the nearest to that:
Help women and girls achieve their ambitions

(By the way: 1 knight has placed a reaction on my blog, no notices from all other knights of the round circle:()

8th of March...
It is much more celebrated in Europe and not so much in North America. But it feels so good to be part of it.

Thank you for sharing this amazing article on celebrating Internationa Women's Day. In a male dominate world, I am elated to have this day to celebrate. Here is quote by Janet Jackson which I love:
"I'm convinced that we Black women possess a special indestructible strength that allows us to not only get down, but to get up, to get through, and to get over."
