My last blog addressed getting a different perspective on your blog, by using a free web site for a fresh angle to use when writing new content. If you missed it, feel free to take a look at https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/prestones/blog/bra... Its a short read, and has a free resource that may help with your writer's block. You should have no problem coming up with a subject for your new post or page.

Got a subject? Now You Need a keyword!

Whatever your topic, remember your keyword is king (or queen). Do a bit of research, make sure your topic 'fits' your keyword, and make sure your keyword fits the 3 criteria below. I've listed the least important first, so work through the list backwards if you feel the need to do so:

  • Try to find a kewword with a reasonable monthly traffic count. If you can get something over 100, great - but you may find you need to drop that count to accommodate the following two reasons. They're much more important!
  • The competition shown in the Keyword Tool (or the QSR in Jaaxy) should be under 100 - or even under 50 if you have a new site and you're just trying to get traction with it.
  • When you look at the front page of Google for your proposed keyword, make sure it's not covered by links associated with giants of the Internet for your niche. If you can't unseat one of those front page players, you're hosed!

If you can't find a suitable keyword for the topic you'd like to write about, either dig deeper to find one, or pick another topic to write about. Don't waste time with a keyword that won't get traffic to your site.

Writing a scathingly brilliant article

Some time ago, I wrote a bit about writing blog content when your brain seemed to have turned to a lump of clay. Take a look at https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/prestones/blog/min... if you're coming up empty when trying to write content.

You can do this! Just play a little mind game with yourself!

Lastly, you need a title

Here's another free tool you can use to pull traffic to your site. You can use it to create a title for your article - but you can also use it to create captions for your images, or to help create an eye-catching meta-description to appear in the search results below your article's link. Take a look at http://www.portent.com/tools/title-maker. Play with it a bit.

It will offer a new look at possible titles for your article, although they may be a bit bizarre. If you don't like what you see, hit "Reload" - the circular arrow next to the subject field.

You may have to enlarge your screen a bit (Control and '+' on the PC, or Command and '+' on the Mac) to see the image above more clearly - but results from the site tend to be a bit entertaining and just a little irreverend - my kind of site! Just be sure you put your intended keyword in the subject field to use the tool.

Oh - also be sure to restore your screen to it's normal size (Control and '0' on the PC, or Command and '0' on the Mac - that's Control / Command and zero). If you've enlarged it to view the picture above, that will bring it back to its default size.

Soooo... lets see.

  • Great idea for a new article... check.
  • Great keyword for that new article... check.
  • Great title to top your new literary pièce de résistance... check.

You're good to go!

Write, publish, and stun the unsuspecting masses out there on the Internet!

I like the mental image of stunning the unsuspecting masses.

All that remains is to make it so Michael :)

Good to hear - it tickles my sense of usefulness (?) to hear you find it useful. I'm not sure there is such a thing as a sense of usefulness, but if not, I just created it!

Hey Dennis, great post. A very enjoyable read as my brain becomes a lump of clay quite regularly! Thanks for the tips.
Cheers
Darwyn

I think the "lump of clay" syndrome occurs regularly for all of us - some more often than others.

It's those occasions that I have to play mind games on myself.

Kinda sad...

Dennis

Again a check-out:)

That means a lot coming from someone who has contributed as much as you have Loes!
