.Com vs .Org? Which WP is better?

Good Morning everyone. Hope everyone is doing well. I have been so busy finishing up my 2 online courses, but had to drop in and say hello.

I am still reading and learning in between my courses.

I have 5 weeks left and I graduate, woohoo!!

During break times between studying and taking exams, I had a a-ha moment with a question.

What's the difference between having a wordpress.com and a wordpress.org?

Which is better for monetizing?

Can it be corrected if I have the wrong one? Or do I?

I have the .com one. Do I feel defeated? I don't know. A few sites said that a .org is better for monetizing, I know that getting a correct answer would only be here...at wealthy affiliate.

Once these next exams are finished I will devote so much more time on adjusting my website, from A to Z.

It's hard for me to time budget, although I know it's an important thing to do.

I fall a lot...

But I do not forget what I need to do to advance my life and invest for my future.

My goal remains that I want to be the best with my website, pay it forward and helping others with all the things I have tried and still try to ease my anxiety, stress and depression.

It can get overwhelming, but I am not giving up.

Any words of wisdom?

Thank you

Kyle suggests dot com as that is searched the most

Great question and discussion. I prefer .com as it is what most people are accustomed to and will most likely make their queries with. But it is a matter of preference or availability.

The sites you get on Wordpress.com will be (yoursitename).wordpress.com. I don't think they rank, but I'm not 100% sure. Wordpress.org is for designing your own site, like we do here. We do it on the WA platform, but Wordpress.org will give you lots of info, plug-ins, etc.

Thanks! So what do I do? I have a .com. Should I get a .org? Can I change to a .org? I am so confused...

Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org are two different sites. A .com extension and a .org extension are simply different extensions you can purchase for your website. The most common out there is a .com, also the one most people look for. These apply to your domain name. It has nothing to do with Wordpress.org and Wordpress.com. Those are sites belonging to Wordpress, like your site belongs to you. I'm not sure if I can explain it any better. If your domain is a .com, leave it there. If you're still not sure, ask again.

Thank you! That explains things a lot better. I was getting so worried that I purchased the wrong domain, but I am alright with my .com.
Thank you very much :-)

You're welcome!

You have a little confusion here I think

The two websites you are talking about are the WordPress official websites
Wordpress.com is a website where you can create a free blog using WordPress blogging platform
Wordpress.org is where you can get information about WordPress things like plugins themes and technical issues

You have to choose your own domain to go on your own website

Barry

Thanks for your information. So my .com site is correct to use for my content, images and affiliate links?

they will both work i believe... i have .org installed and i think the only difference is i have to use a local host to build my site then i have to buy my domain and pay a host company to publish

Thank you so much for relieving my anxiety. I started to feel a bit claustrophobic that I was doing it all wrong because I have a .com and not a .org. No I continue tweaking, writing content, images and I can put some affiliate links with ease? That's wonderful. I cannot thank you enough. I wish you so much success and joy :-)

this is an interesting question because i went through it myself.. by using wordpress.com you are paying for them to host your site i believe. By using .org, you will have to find your own host. Wordpress is wordpress, making money with your site will depend upon your content and keywords ultimately.

I have a .com site. I won't get penalized for putting in affiliate links? Thank you!

Wordpress.com is free

Barry

Barry, I bought the domain via namecheap. Does that change things?
