Learning To Write - Over Again

Hi, Gang.

A few weeks ago, a fellow member and friend brought forth Grammarly to the WAU platform. I started using it as a 'Free Member.' They also offer a more advanced paid version that I have not exercised participating in at this time. I may want to though because I see that the program is not active while I write this post at WA. Hmm.

I like what this program is doing for me so far. It follows me around wherever I go (not here, though, Hmm. Probably have to go premium to be able to use it with Blog Creation) and highlights potential mistakes that I am making in my writing. The Grammarly Support Team sends out weekly Stats that are designed to provide me with useful information about how I write.

This progress report is an analysis of my writing with Grammarly and is intended to provide insights that may help me to become an even better writer.

Here, is my progress report for the week of August 01- to August 07. It looks at three main components of my writing: activity, mastery, and vocabulary. It also offers a Quote of inspiration.

August 01 — August 07, 2016

Your Weekly Writing Update

“Don’t set your goals by what other people deem important.”
—Jaachynma N.E. Agu

ACTIVITY:

My activity measures my total word count for the week and also shows how often I used Grammarly compared to all Grammarly users. I used 24,210 words during that period. That's the equivalent of over twelve 2,000 word blogs. Yet, I did not write even one.

ACTIVITY

24210 words checked ▲ 300%

You were more active
than 98% of Grammarly users.

MASTERY:

Mastery analyzes how many (or how few) mistakes I corrected with Grammarly as it relates to the total words I wrote. Right now, it seems that 30% of my writing contains mistakes. Moving forward, the fewer mistakes I need to correct with Grammarly, the more accurately I will begin to write. I am also able to see how well I did compared to all Grammarly users.

MASTERY

365 mistakes made ▲ 29%

You were more accurate (mistakes/words) than 70% of Grammarly users.

VOCABULARY:

Vocabulary examines my lexicon and word usage. I am shown how many unique words I've written throughout the prior week. The percentage shown lets me know how dynamic—meaning, how varied and diverse—my vocabulary is relative to Grammarly users. This is important to me because I am trying to learn how to write in my own unique style.

VOCABULARY

2062 unique words ▼ 62%

Your vocabulary was more dynamic (unique/total words) than 98% of Grammarly users.

Share with friends:

So far, so not so bad.

Finally, Grammarly points out my 'Top Grammar Mistakes.'

Everyone makes mistakes, Right?

Grammarly designed this section to hopefully prevent me from making the same mistakes twice— or 20 times. The Grammarly tool diagnosed and found exact terms for three of the most frequent grammatical errors I had made that were corrected with Grammarly.

TOP GRAMMAR MISTAKES

1. Missing comma in compound sentence

94 mistakes Learn more

2. Missing closing punctuation

56 mistakes Learn more

3. Missing punctuation after interjection

32 mistakes Learn more

Overall, I am satisfied with my first week results with Grammarly. I know now what to look out for and how I can start improving my writing skills.

According to Grammarly, users spend more time writing online than they may realize. Between emails, blog posts, and status updates, their users are writing the equivalent of a novel each month, on average.

That’s a lot of words! But what does that mean for you?

I know what it means for me. There may be better and more comprehensive tools out there, and so there should be. I thank that particular WA member that brought this tool to my attention because it works silently in the background, and offers me a sense of security.

Thanks for stopping by.

That is really interesting Paul and quite enlightening.....I wonder if I am writing a novel a week? It certainly feels like it!

Thanks for the post....

Hi, Michael.

Depending on the number of letters and numbers entered, you are actually writing the equivalent of a novel every month, not every week.

With your contributions, would it not be interesting to see where you are at.

You know what, Michael? I offered a simple little post that was 'knudged' to me from a fellow member.

I did not think that I would receive such response.

I am almost sorry that I posted, because I an having trouble keeping up.

Paul.

Which post was that Paul? Even a novel a month is pretty impressive.....

'Learning to Write...'

Great post, Paul. Grammarly certainly works in my responses, and I suffer a lot from punctuation mistakes as well.

Yes, my friend, we suffer from ailments associated with writing.
Tools, available to us are just another way to help us to reach our view and existence in paradise.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and making a comment.

You are batting 1000. Don't ever let me down.

Kindest regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul,

Man, I love Grammarly! I use the ignore more than it likes, but it is very helpful.

Bruce

Hi, Bruce.
I, too use the ignore quite often because I am trying to make the transition from 'British' to 'American.'

Keep us updated on your travels with 'Grammarly.'

I really value you taking the time to stop by and comment.

I will always try to remember to do the same.

Kindest regards,
Paul.

Sounds really good :)

I was wondering when I would hear back from you.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment. It is important to me.
Have a blessed weekend my friend in the UK.

Cheers.

Paul.

It'll be interesting to serve as a guinea pig for it... I think I will try... thanks, Paul...
And your results seem good to me... and there's some interesting info, too......I think I definitely write a novel here every day with some members being co-authors... lol

Hi, Vera.
Sure, give it a try. I was raised with 'British' English, and I am trying to make the transition to 'American' English.

The tool is not perfect, but it is helping me out a lot.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and contributing.

Regards,

Paul.

Thanks, Steve for liking my response to Vera.
Much appreciated.

Paul.

I absolutely love Grammarly. Let's face it, most of us are not English majors. We all make grammatical errors. It's also not always lack of grammar knowledge. We all make typos. Grammarly will identify things like missing words and duplicated words because these errors will also result in a grammatically incorrect sentence. I feel like it enables me to present a more professional image on my website. It's like having a second set of eyes to proofread your work.

The program can also improve your writing style by pointing out poor word choices and suggesting better choices. I use Chrome as my browser and Grammarly has a Chrome extension that allows me to use it on the WA platform. To be honest, I can't tell you whether that's available in the free version or not. I have a paid subscription.

Hi Linda,

I thought I was already following you. No matter, I am now.

Thank you for backing me up on this. Yes, it is a great tool. I will probably go Premium because my initial report indicated that Grammarly Premium found 347 additional advanced mistakes.

That is a lot of mistakes and would probably be a good idea on my part to find out and correct.

Thank you very much for stopping by and posting your valuable thoughts.

Kindest regards,

Paul.

Thanks for the like, Linda.
Over and out for now.

Paul.

Post Script.
The word "started' should read "start."
Sorry about that. Maybe spell check would be better (LOL).

Paul.

This is the first time that I am replying to myself online written.
I do talk to myself all the time and I think that that is not a bad thing.

Wow, I just used That That and got away with it.

My Lesson learned: Read and re-read before hitting the post button. Once it goes out...it is difficult to bring back and change. You can, of course, update. It's all good.

This is what learning is all about.

Wishing all well.

Paul.

Good stuff thanks,

Thanks for stopping by Mike.
Your presence is appreciated.

Paul.

P.s. My friend is just getting finished with that car matter.
I'll let you know the outcome as soon as it is concluded.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks for the like, Mike.
Over and out for now.

Paul.

Thank you for your perspective. This is something that I have wanted to add.

You are most welcome Janice.
I really like this tool.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Paul.

Thanks for the like, Janice.
Over and out for now.

Paul.

Premium gives you the Chrome add-on needed for it to follow you here.

Actually, Steve, it did follow me here.

I can use it in the reply section of comments, but it does not follow me into the write a blog section.

No big deal at this time. Thanks again for the introduction to it.

Paul.

Maybe you need a stronger leash?

LOL. Yes, a leash with an invisible cord. You know, MIME.

All kidding somewhat aside...Someone has reached out through PM, Not Paul Mindra, or Paul Mindra Syndrome, but Private Messaging. My return messaging is allowing me to enter my response at a snail's pace rather than the pace I am accustomed to...turtle pace.

Just wondering if this has anything to do with 'Grammarly' being installed or that the 'wizards' that monitor PM (not me), Private Messaging have their hands full.

No really, the PM(Private Messaging, not Paul Mindra) is working really slowly.

Let me know your thoughts.

PM (Paul McCartney).

For: PM (Prime Minister)

For: PM (Paul Mindra), humble soul.

:-)

LOL - This is great Paul ! Still laughing. No, I have not had any problems with the PM (not Prime Minister), but if I do I will certainly let you know.

Have a great weekend my friend, always good staying in touch with you!

Steve

The pleasure is, of course, is mutual.
i.e. PM = Pleasure Mutual.

You have no idea how much fun I have had with those initials.

Actually, my initials at birth were SPS and were chosen not by my parents but a sage or teacher representing my parents' beliefs.

Had some fun with SPS, It evolved to SPSM. SPSM is the acronym for my entire name. Think about the possibilities.

Now, do a background check on SPSM and see what you come with. Hope I'm not being deported.

Sent to you with 'true' love from my heart my friend.

You have made my introduction into this community very special.

Thank you.

Paul.

Likewise Paul........your warm and extremely helpful notes have helped me thru some hard times.

Peace, love and mutual respect my friend.
You are special to me.

We are going to make it through and have a PM (Paul Mindra) celebration with lots of mutual Scotch and Navy Rum Flowing.

Keep tight, Keep well, Ours and everyone else that wants it is just around the corner.

God's speed. (actually the fastest if understood).

Paul.

Agree on all dear friend. Stay well !

Steve

Like.

Peace, love and respect to all.

Touch base tomorrow.

Paul.

(no further reply necessary...unless you want to. All that is important has been said. Pleasant dreams, my good friend.)
