Hi, I'm Linda. I retired last year following a 40-year career working in public accounting, business education and ultimately corporate accounting. While there were many elements of my job that I truly loved, it was time to leave the long hours, stress and constant deadlines behind. I live in a 55-Plus community with numerous common facilities and have enjoyed a year of self-indulgence. In particular, we have an amazing executive golf course that has beckoned me on a regular basis. I've been intrigued by the possibilities of working online for many years. Now that I have the time, I am ready to explore that option.

Money Goals
As a newbie to the process and a natural skeptic, I would be happy with a couple hundred dollars a month. Steady monthly earnings in the $1K range would make me ecstatic. As long as the hours are flexible and can be fit in around my personal schedule, I have a lot of time to devote to this endeavor.

Great to see that you've added some goals Linda!

Working towards achieving these goals will happen as you take action on the lesson tasks here at WA. Ask questions when you have them, and take your time. This is not a race, and your time investment will have you up and running before you know it!

You're going to do just great!

Welcome to the Wealthy Affiliate community!

Broken down, these goals are achievable. Just remember, it will take time. If you need any help during the lessons or building your websites, reach out to the community by asking a question at the top. I've found this to be one of Wealthy Affiliate's most helpful features. It has helped me more than once in the past. I will also be happy to help as well.

Good luck on your future endeavors!

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Hi Kyle,

Yes, things are going very well for me. I've actually chosen my niche and had my website up and running for several months now. It's http://retiredandearningonline.com.

I know I've sent a weird signal today by going back through and checking off steps in the lessons. I've actually been through almost all of the lessons at this point (some more than once). But I knew I would want to review them again once I reached a point where more things made sense. So I never really checked off the tasks. I'm doing that review now in hopes that everything will click and I'll pick up a few tidbits that may have escaped me before :)

I would certainly love it if you took a look and gave me your quick impressions of my site. Thanks for checking in.
Regards,
Linda

I think you are off to a really good start Linda, I do have a few suggestions here:

(1) I would always suggest making your homepage a blog roll versus being a static page. The reason for this is that when you add a new post to your website, it will automatically show a snippet of this on your homepage (within your blog roll).

Not only does this make your website appear to be much more active and interesting to a visitor, it will also lead Google to quicker index your pages and also rank your content higher as your website will always appear fresh.

(2) You can start incorporating other pages/posts into your top menu (as a drop down) as you build out your website.

You can add these custom menus to organize your top menu in any way in which you like, as well as create sub-menus (for themes that will support this). You can also use these custom menus to add within your side widgets on your website (within your sidebar).

Here is a tutorial on how to create custom menus: I use custom menus on all of my websites (over-ride that default menu). It allows much more control and organization....both good things!

(3) Target keywords within every page or post.

Each page or post on your website should have a keyword focal point. Keywords are what lead to rankings and what lead to traffic. So when you are looking to come up with an idea for a new post, do some keyword research and find a phrase that is related to your niche.

As you build out your content and start getting rankings under these terms, you will see your traffic (and revenue) cumulatively grow. Just know that not every page will rank, but over time a good percentage will. The game of numbers!
