Motivation Is Just the Start

It's Motivation That Gets You Started

Joining a gym is a great example. It's usually motivated by something specific.

You look in the mirror and think "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fattest of them all?"

Or the elevator's out of order and you realize that you can no longer walk (let alone run) up a flight of stairs without being out of breath.

But It's Habit That Keeps You Going

Most people who join a gym start off enthusiastically but stop going after a short time, sometimes only two or three visits. Even if they've signed up for a 6 month membership.

Something else comes up, or they don't feel well or... some other excuse. And then they never get started again.

But the real reason is that it never became a habit.

Make a decision to go to the gym three times a week (for example) on specific days at specific times when you know you'll be available. Make a solemn promise to yourself (and, if possible to others who will hold you accountable) to stick it out exactly for three weeks.

At the end of the three weeks, it will have become a HABIT and your chances of keeping on going have improved exponentially.

It's the Same with Your Online Business

The motivation will have been different, but the principle is the same.

You may have lost your job or feel that it's insecure or maybe you just don't enjoy it.

Perhaps you want to spend more time with family.

Or get a new car or go on an overseas vacation.

You could be looking at a frightingly underfunded retirement.

All great motivation to start your new online business. That's why you joined Wealthy Affiliate.

Get into the Habit

Then you discover you've got to put some work into it. Both learning and doing.

The best way to get where you need to go is to get into the habit.

You've found your niche and built and launched your website. Now you've got to do keyword research and write a keyword rich blog post.

And you've got to do it over and over again.

First, decide your frequency and get to know how long each one will take.

Just like the gym visits, decide for example that you'll write three blog posts a week, the first on Monday at 8pm, the second on Wednesday at the same time and the third on Saturday after lunch.

After three weeks, you've written nine new blog posts, you're starting to see results, you and the family have got used to working around your schedule. You've created a HABIT.

In six months, your website has 78 blog posts and you are well on your way to being regarded as an expert in your niche.

I know your secret. Trying to start a new habit can be intimidating for a person. Just as you pointed out about starting a workout schedule, you must devote the same time of energy, dedication and passion to writing blogs for your website. Do the research, find the right keywords and devote the time to writing. Avoid the distractions that keep you from doing the work. After a short period of time, it becomes second nature.
Jerry

That is so right, Jerry. Disciplined habits are really the secret of success.

We must first throw out the bad habits and embrace the good ones, friend.
There are people who only want to try something new, just to find out that it's not going their way. The weird thing is that the newfound habit could be the one for the better.

What is surprising to me most, is that bad habits last longer than good ones. I call that bad motivation + bad habits which = no growth and lots of misery. Lol!

It's all up to the individual to have the need to move forward in life. That has to come from within. Thanks for a helpful and engaging post. All the best!

I see you're interested in weights and nutrition. As you will be aware, good habits are essential in both of these areas. Thanks for your insights.

Thanks Phil,

Very practical advice, very motivational.

I'm really behind, and your advice came right on time...
It fuels the right emotion.

I had to wait 2 weeks for a new computer that I purchased at Best Buy. I had to return it because it has serious issues.
Best Buy told me it came defective from factory.

I purchased a new one. I might receive it by Tuesday.

I'm very motivated but these issues with the computers are affecting my productivity. I'm not doing what it takes right now to form those good habits that you are talking about.

I'm in the Bootcamp Training. I want to be promoting Wealthy Affiliate. So, I'm going to be on the Making Money Online business.

How can I check on other member's websites, so that I can get ideas on how to start?

How do I know who are the ones that are also in the Making Money Online business?

At the Bootcamp Training they are asking me to finish some tasks that looks pretty much like I have to write all over again what I put on my profile...
Why I'm here at WA, and why do I enjoy it, and why do I want to help? What motivates me?

When I look at other member's writings, I believe that I'm reading their Blog posts. I don't think that I'm on their websites.

Like your post about "Motivation and Habit". I believe I'm reading your blog... but I'm not in your website.

Yes it did,

Thanks so much!

Thanks, Abie. I decided not to go Plus this year as it was just going to suck up time I couldn't spare. Next year, definitely.

I'm so glad it helped, Ivan.

Yes, you're reading one of my WA blogs.

I have many websites.

Nice and clear as usual, Abie. As well as comprehensive.

Perfect Abie,

I will see How I can find that webinar.

By Tuesday I might get the new computer, and I'm going to feel that I can do this again with more energy.

I see that some members are talking about that they already have the next 35 blogs. How do they do that?

I appreciate all the help you are giving me...

Thanks

You are always helping Phil...

Thanks!

Nice of you to say so, Ivan.

You might find this useful:

I found Kyle's webinar,

I believe the title is: "Target Audiences for Wealthy Affiliate".

It's really good. I already bookmarked it.

Thanks again Abie!

That is exactly what I was looking for.

Very explosive in my mind. It's a solution to many of my questions. I already bookmarked "A Formula for Writing Blog Posts".

You were the first Person I followed for a reason.

I really like your formula.

I'm going to apply "The Formula", and I'm also going to apply the "Motivation is Just the Start...Forming The HABIT is extremely important" Principle.

Today YOU just put me back on track. You are full of inspiration...
and your inspiration makes us feel inspired.

I wanted to do this... but the love that you put in helping people,
makes me so much more passionate about learning faster, so that I can also help other people

Thanks!

Well shucks. I really don't deserve all that praise, Ivan, but will I accept it? Absolutely. Thanks so much.

Thank you Phill.

We can be our own enemy. We need to break down the barriers and get our mindset in focus.

That's totally correct. Develop the right habits and you surge ahead.

Too many of us beat ourselves up and let criticism define our path.

Criticism can be difficult to deal with.

You have to look at it objectively and decide if it's just destructive or if there are aspects that you can learn from and improve.

But in either case, you must move on and put it behind you. Never dwell on it.

I always have liked the phrase, "repetition is the mother of skill."
Create good habits and eliminate bad ones.
Keep moving in the direction of your goals.

Yes, great advice Dave.
