AI Censorship

I thought this was a strange one.

I have a Facebook ad running on skin care. It takes those who click on it to a lead magnet, which in turn funnels them into an email automation.

The email automation is a mixture of information, affiliate links and more giveaways.

I needed an additional giveaway and so, with the help of my trusty PA, ChatGPT4, have almost finished a new e-book Skin Care for Teens.

Although the ad is targeted at an older demographic, I figure some will have teenage children or grandchildren (I myself have 3 teenage granddaughters) and so could find it useful.

Currently, I'm adding the chapter images and am up to Chapter 4 Sun Protection.

Couldn't find anything suitable on Pixabay, so turned to AI.

Here's the prompt I gave to ChatGPT4:

"please create an image of a teenage girl with bad sunburn."

And here's the AI's reply:

"I'm unable to generate an image depicting a person with a medical condition like sunburn due to content policy restrictions. If you have another request or need an image depicting something else, feel free to let me know!"

Hmmm... OK, wonder if everyone feels the same way.

So I put the same prompt to Adobe Firefly.

This is what it came back with:

Perfect! A little bit of resizing and cropping and I had my chapter image.

Incidentally, Leonardo AI also generated images based on the prompt, just not as good as Firefly's.

Has anyone else run into AI censorship, with either text or images?

I've run into censorship with AI Phil. To say things are great we say "The cat's whiskers", "The bee's knees" or "The dog's b****cks". I asked AI to create an image of a window-cleaning cat with huge whiskers and a window-cleaning bee with huge knees for my window-cleaning business. No problem.
When I asked for a window-cleaning dog with large testicles though, it wouldn't perform this request.

Phil

It's really quite bizarre, given the amount of porn freely available but, being based in the US, I guess they have to have one eye on potential litigation at all times.

I wasn’t too surprised when my request was declined and even quite pleased that some sort of decency standards are in place.

Still, could have been a great image!

lol, now there’s a challenge…let’s see….

Haha. Perhaps you should have followed up the prompt with "please show them attached".

Whoops, I naturally assumed he was married. lol.

Hehe
Stevoi

So many possible responses but all NSFW.

Good morning Phil,

Some things never fail to amaze me! This is one of the reasons why I have reservations about AI! I also know that it has some good points!

Your post reminds me of Roope's post some time ago, when he asked AI a question. You can see the post below. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Roy

Yes, I did see that at the time. Thanks, Roy. It's all still evolving.

Thank you, Phil!

It was an interesting post and it's interesting to see how AI is set up.

So many people now are using AI language! "Evolving"!

All the best.

Roy

Roy at wealthy affiliate wonders happens that is the reason we are happy platform ever.
Friends you can visit Rwenzoris state the snow peak

Thanks, Roy, No, evolving is a term I've always used where appropriate. It's actually fairly common in IT. Both hardware and software evolve.

Sounds good.

It's a pleasure, Phil! I guess evolving is a word I haven't used, but I do see it in AI! So, as soon as I see words like evolve, delve, ecosystem, etc, I immediately think of AI!

I do very much understand where you are coming from and it makes a lot of sense, especially as you have strong connections in IT.

Have a great day.

Roy

I guess it really started with Origin of Species.

Hi Phil,

Nice photo, but not precisely natural sunburn. Oh well, it is what it is. At least this image is better than nothing at all. My face would look like that except totally red as a cooked lobster. I have fair skin, just like that girl in the AI photo. My freckles now turn into aging spots.

I agree, Brenda, but it was good enough for my purposes, especially scaled down to fit on the page.

That looks amazing.

Gosh, thanks Brenda.

Yeah. I'll say.

😂😍😁

I agree with you, Brenda. This is not a good example of sunburn.

I believe the AI combined images of several diagnoses. For example, the malar distribution of erythema is more consistent with an autoimmune disease like lupus and the darker read areas are capillary hemangiomas.

There’s an incredible amount of medical misinformation on the internet.

Frank 🎸

She is sunburned right where I get it the worst, on my forehead and nose!

Yeah but as I said to Brenda, it was good enough for my purposes, especially when scaled down to a book page.

Yep. I think we can all relate.

Hi Phil

Yes, there are AI restrictions for medical information, including images, which are often inaccurate.

I would think that eventually all the AI platforms will incorporate these healthcare restrictions.

There’s so much inaccurate medical information on the internet that it’s ridiculous.

ChatGPT often refuses to create images of famous people. I’ve run into this a lot with guitar players.

Frank 🎸

Yes, I remember one image it wouldn't do for me with Elon Musk. Who's not a guitar player, as far as I know.

It’s pretty much any well-known person, Phil.

I read that OpenAI will have a way for anyone to protect their likeness and intellectual property, so I can see things getting fairly restrictive someday.

Frank 🎸

We are still in shake-out stage, I guess. I imagine lawsuits will be part of the journey.

There are already multiple law suits pending and one class action suit in the entertainment industry.

We'll follow them with interest.

Yup. 😎

I use Firefly quite a bit. I do have problems with some prompts like it will tell me that it can't generate such an image. And a lot of them have mountains in the background. I live in Minnesota and while we do have some hilly areas, we don't really have mountains! LOL

Well, I guess AI has to learn just as we do.

Hope you have a great weekend! Oh, by the way, the photo is great!

Karin

Thanks, Karin. I thought Firefly did a good job of producing what I was after.

You can probably ask it to remove the mountains.

Lol! Yep trust me I have! They still manage to sneak one in!

Karin

That's sorta funny. It's saying "She said no mountains, but can't really mean it. Bet she'd like one."

lol. 😂

We could be making a mountain out of a molehill here, of course.

Karin, quit talking about my home. Yes, the hills. I miss the hills in Minnesota, especially northwest of Minnesota, up on I-94 West going to the Fergus Falls area, then it gets flat as we near the Fargo-Moorhead area where I lived for years from 2001-2015. I tried to get Firefly to do an image of Minnesota lakes, but it didn't do it exactly like the photos I have of most of the lakes I grew up near. Try asking it to do Lake Superior or even Mille Lacs Lake the most prominent northern pike fish there. Try asking it to do that. Let me know how it turns out.

Maybe at some time in the future it will use actual photos of these places to generate its images from. Copyright issues there, I guess.

Probably the closest I could find was this. It almost looks like me as a young kid on a fishing boat with Northern pike fish on one of Minnesota's lakes, not bad. Firefly did that the ai art I asked in my prompt. Looks good. Cool!

That is absolutely brilliant, Brenda. I love it!

LOL! Yeah, it still tried to sneak in a form of mountain and as far as I recall from my last visit there, there weren't any! But I haven't been around the whole lake either. Maybe...LOL

LOL, Phil! Could be!

Karin

This is a nice looking image! I think I've been there! LOL

Karin

We take my dad to a hospital in Fargo for his care of his leg. It's different than I remember it when I was a teenager going there for my brother's cancer treatments. Too big for me! I am a small town girl. I could live in the mountains in Montana, though!

Karin

Pretty close to it. Awesome. I miss that lake. We go there all the time in the summer. Also Detroit Lakes.

I used to go to Mille Lacs every Friday to the casino there, but I haven't been now for several years. I should head that way soon. I miss the area and my granddaughter loves going to stay at hotels and go swimming!

Karin

Montana looks lovely—blue sky. Which hospital was that in Fargo? There are two. Sanford Health and Essentia Health. We hated Sanford, so we switched to Esstentia much better but moved to Oregon after my late husband was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. North Dakota did not allow medical marijuana. Stephen, my late husband, wanted to use Rick Simpson oil instead of chemo, Gemstar, which is known to shorten life and destroy the red blood cells; he would have to have frequent blood transfusions, which we are against. So Oregon had everything he needed. He got the oil and lived a year and a half longer than the Drs at Essentia said three months. Yeah, with chemo, he would have died. Pot extended his life and gave him much time to tour this lovely state, offering more time for him too. be with me because he didn't want to leave me until I was medically stabilized with my MS. I have nothing against Fargo-Moorhead except it was just too cold for me. My MS couldn't take it anymore. Oregon is lovely. Even though it rains, I still can go out, but not in Fargo; get stuck there. Thats why its called FARRRRR-GOOOO! LOL

Yeah, me too. I love it. Im keeping that photo as well. Firefly is awesome.

We go to Essentia Health. They are so good there. Within a very short time, they had the problem with my dad's leg under control!

I am glad that your late husband was able to get what he needed in Oregon and that he was able to better enjoy the time he had with you.

Yeah, Fargo and Minnesota are too cold for me, but I am so used to it now, I guess I just keep living here because my family is here.

Take care!

Karin

Yeah, I understand. Yes, Essentia Health is an excellent healthcare system. I love the people there. My family lives in the Cities, and my husband hated them. They were too expensive. Fargo-Moorhead was much cheaper than the Minneapolis/St—Paul metro area. I'm the only one who moved far from my family, but all of them did come to visit me here in Oregon in the last four years. I was hoping I could travel back to Minnesota, but it's not to be. I have no funds, and my health isn't stable enough to go on long trips. Im in a medically assisted living facility where I get care 24/7, and I need to be here. Fargo didn't have such a facility available for us as Deaf people. This facility is one of a kind. It's a Deaf and DeafBlind assistant living facility. Well, at least the AI photos can help bring back beautiful memories of the Minnesota lakes. My sister now works at Minnesota School for the Deaf in Fairbault; it is such a long commute from Eagan to Fairbault.

Looks lovely, Karin.

😁😁😁

Hope you were wearing your VR headset, Karin.

I've lived in small towns and big cities. Give me the small town any time!

Living near a lake is a privilege, Brenda. Very calming.

I live between a (large) creek that drains into a lake and a river that drains into the ocean. Plenty of beaches and swimming, which my granddaughters love when they visit.

That is my dream, to live near a river or lake. One of those goals I am working on!

Karin

A sad but ultimately triumphant story, Brenda. Under no circumstances would I accept chemo and I believe future generations will look back on it in disbelief.

I love water—I, too, like small towns. Yeah, you're right about chemo. I would be scared of it too.

You could frame it and tell people it's you!

Totally agree with you both on this one! Chemo didn't do my brother any favors. This was in late 1979 when he was diagnosed. He didn't even make it a whole year on chemo and radiation.

Karin

I wouldn't accept it either. I do not accept blood transfusion so I wont do it. I would do the RSO (Rick Simpson Oil-pot oil). It was effective for Stephen, so if it happens to me, that's the route I would take. I like the CBD oils they help me.

Yes, I love being near the water. I'm a 4 minute stroll to the river and a 10 minute bike ride to the surf beach. Paradise!

When I had my (third) hip replacement a couple of years ago, they found a tumor on my right kidney. The only option they offered was to remove the kidney. As far as they were concerned, it was a done deal. How about next Thursday sort of thing.

I told them it wasn't going to happen.

It's been fine ever since.

It's always seemed strange to me. You've got something attacking you're body so we'll treat you to a regime that also attacks your body.

I don't really suffer from any pain, but if I did I'd certainly be looking at CBD.

Great idea! My late husband, Stephen took the stronger kind Rick Simpson Oil more potent kind. He picked the strain that really hit his pain and also boosted his appetite. Pancreatic cancer is painful kind. His was already in stage four. Nothing could have saved him from that.

Thanks Brenda. I'll research that name. I'm sorry about your husband.

I've had some proprietary issues with text. The Ai I used was very 'straight'.

The Ai developers must have parameters on what they can or cannot use when creating content.

To keep things totally PC, and friendly.

As we know, anytime someone wants to procide medical advice, they have to be careful and not discuss having a cure (could you imagine the impact on our pharmaceutical big brother??)

Anyway, that's my take.

Rudy

Sure. Interesting though that only ChatGPT regarded sunburn as a "medical condition".
