4 GOOD Comments, Couldn't believe it.

Comment Spam

Many WA members, including myself, have blogged here about spam comments and the need to disapprove them.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/phil1944/blog/hard-to-commen...

I even went as far as suggesting that the 50 cents incentive should be removed and comment requests and offers become 1:1 instead of 2:1. Not everyone agreed with this, of course.

No Spam Today

Well, today I want to report a good experience.

I requested 1 comment on a blog post I created last night. It was already on page 2 of Bing, so I though some comments and replies might kick it along.

To be honest, I was ready to disapprove the typical 2 line, no value cut and paste comment.

4 Good Comments

But in fact I got 4 excellent comments. Each one was two or three well written paragraphs, the authors had clearly read the post and their comments added value.

So I was stoked. I really hope that this is an indication that site management has cleaned up this area. If so, well done and congratulations.

Approve and Reply Slowly

Another thought. I don't know if this is so or not, but it seems to me that 4 comments arriving at almost the same time and approved and replied to immediately might raise a red flag with the browser spiders. Because of this, I will spend a few hours approving the comments and also create a delay between approving and replying.

Like I said, it may not be an issue but it's no extra work to do it that way so I do.

Great news ! Oh no spideys creep me the help out

Yes, it was very pleasing. Hope it stays that way.

But there's a strange thing, Rebecca. I was sure that I was following you, but your name has come up with the green Follow Me button available.

Oh well, I've pressed it now.

Thank you that keeps happening

Weird. I guess all software has the occasional bug.

Glad to hear the good news.

I for one find that many of the request for comments have been filled by the time I check my emails. Also seems like a lot of the request cover topics i do not feel knowledgeable enough to write a comment.

Along with the way the paid request for comments is set up seems like I frequently do something wrong and find my comment in cyberspace before I submit it. Bad case of old-timers disease, can not remember exactly what or why I am supposed to do something (plus brain is multi-tasking 99% of the time)

Barry

Lol!

As long as you have the website being commented on open in one tab and the WA space where you're entering the comment open in the other, I don't think your comment can be lost before you submit it.

Glad to hear you received some excellent comments. Maybe I will check it out again. Thanks Phil.

Yeah, it was encouraging. I might check again later.

That's fantastic news Phil. It might actually encourage me to ask for comments. However, I have a lot of doubt about there relevance. Jim

They do have some relevance, Jim, in that they make the blog post longer and tell the search engine that your post has some engagement.

Great to know, now I can go ahead and request some later :)

I hope you get a good result, Ilaisaane. Ann of CrazyHaggis fame also got good comments shortly after I did.

Good hopefully that you two were not an anomoly lol

Yeah, me too. I'll try another tomorrow or maybe later this afternoon.

Hi, Phil!

I too have experienced those poor comments and have had responses in record time.

My take on this could be one of two reasons:

(1) Often the person responding does not know enough about the topic to start off with to even make a reasonable comment, or

(2) There seems to be some sort of confusion as to the difference between a site comment and a site feedback.

What I mean is when the member is supposed to be commenting on the subject matter of the post, they concentrate on the aesthetics instead.

Whenever I come across websites that I don't have enough knowledge or insight on, I do not comment. I would rather move on to a site that I feel comfortable with to make a reasonable comment.

Thank you for sharing such a relevant message.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Paul. I think your approach to commenting only if you believe you can add value is both ethical and sound.

Well stated, Phil! So true and is the only way of paying it forward.

All the Very Best, my friend!

Maybe they are taking lessons, 'how to write a great comment'! (Could be a lucrative sideline. Give me 39.99 and I'll send you my eBook)!
Sorry Phil, tongue in cheek here! Or hey, maybe a goer!!
I decided this am to just pick a random comment on a website I commented on, first one! Bingo! So I'll be watching for that name to pop up when I request!

Sounds like a plan, Michele. Perhaps we could collaborate on the e-book :-) Start by collecting comments.

That is what I dislike about WP, having comment form. For that reason I havent set up my website because worried about spam and negative comments. Dislike that. Is there a way to remove them? Not have any at all?

Hi Brenda, you always have control over WA comments. You must accept or reject a comment before it is posted on your webpage.

I hope that helps

Murray

Still nonetheless I dislike it and think earning credits for that isnt worth it, especially when its about moola. I am trying to build a site without comments form dislike that. Read the other blog post by Phil about these issues, many issues from other WA members complaining about it. It seem so difficult to do having to do all the work, it will tick me off. This is why i am hestitant to set up my site on here.

Not quite sure what you're asking, Brenda. Was Murray's answer what you needed to know? As he says, you have total control over comments on your website.

It doesn't matter where your site is hosted. You have exactly the same control over comments. It's a WP setting, not a WA one.

Me personally I have a love hate relationship with sitecomments not really, because of bad comments though. It was just time consuming, what I mean is the 2:1 ratio in order to get one credit.

You even mentioned it in your post me personally I agree with you it should be a 1:1 ratio. Now I can understand why you and others would want to have the $.50, taken away from sitecomments. Since it kind of does drive some to just spam so they can get paid.

I have been at one point months ago a certified commenter, made a small $10 in a month. I see it as a good incentive, but at the same time not such a good thing. The reason I say this like we all know the spam some get. Plus the amount of time some spend trying to get some money could be spent on their website.

I remember when SiteComments 2.0 came out the incentive of $.50 brought SiteComments back from the dead. Before 2.0 came out SiteComments wasn't used as much as it is today.

I use it sparingly but I don't use it to get money I use it for one reason so I can get some engagement on my posts you know?

Thanks for the good post about your 4 good comments you got I hope the best for you.

Matt

Thanks, Matt. I don't believe the 2 line spam commenters are spending the time at the expense of their website. They don't have a website, just a free WA and Gravatar membership.

Hey Phil, maybe the discussion here through the week woke a few people up. I know I just started doing comments and when I got the first rejection I went back over the training.
If everyone just remembers to pay it forward we will get a lot more happy posts just like yours!
Thank you for sharing your approval!
That is awesome!

Murray

Yes, I felt that there were so many site comment negatives floating around (including mine) that I owed it to share some good news.
