Making Money Online - 5 Weeks In, And Have Not Yet Made A Bean....

Hi, I realise that making money online was never going to be easy, yet I'm really beginning to think if it's actually going to happen. I work on my website each and every day creating new content whenever I can, I use social media all the time to shout about WA and all it has to offer.

I'm not shy about diving in to keyword research and using them properly, yet I seem to be falling short some where along the line. There's obviously a kink in system, but where?

Any advice would be truly, truly appreciated. Thanks in advance

-Pete

I like what techhound says. It's like a movie star that becomes successful overnight. They really didn't become successful overnight or just get into the business. Their persistence just finally paid off and you know who they are now.

That can happen with just one song, one movie, and in our case just the right article that goes viral and lets everyone know who you are. 5 weeks really is nothing in the scheme of things. You are doing great though!!!

All of your comments are awesome and much appreciated, I'm gonna hang tight and keep on at it!

Cool cool!!!

One thing to look at is, have the efforts you have done so far provided any traffic to your website? If yes, suppose you wrote 25 blog posts and that has led to your site getting say, 4 visits each day. Affiliate programs tend to convert 1 to 2% so 4 visits a day is just not going to convert into sales. But let's look at what happened here. You are getting 4 visits a day from your 25 blog posts.

That is a success. Why? Because all you have to do now is create 25 more blog posts to say get 8 visits a day. 8 visits may not be enough to convert but it's double what you had before.

These numbers are not exact formulas. Some people need to write more than this to get these types of results and some people can get away with less. It's just for example purposes.

So let's suppose you wrote 50 blog posts and they are getting your 8 visits a day? Should you get discouraged by these numbers. No way! It's time to write 50 more blog posts to get 8 more visitors for a total of 16 visits a day. You just keep doing this until you start seeing steady sales. This can and does happen all the time.

If you are worried about the time it takes in writing the articles yourself, you can always outsource it for faster results. If you go this route make sure you pick really good writers. One way to accomplish this, is to pay 10 or 15 people to write the same topic and then choose the best one or two writers and use them going forward.

I realize outsourcing costs some up front money but it could get you to your goal of more traffic a lot quicker.

Keep going and it's normal to get discouraged. Giving up is the worst thing you can do as there has never been a greater opportunity in our lifetimes to become financially independent. Continue to shout out if your discouraged. That's what we're here for.

Best Regards,
Jim

If you were attending college, what would you have accomplished in the first 5 weeks? The sad realization is that we have been led to believe that money comes overnight by people trying to sell us great pre-made packages that do not work.

Here at WA we at least have a chance to build a solid site and get some exposure. If you read Kyle's story, you will realize that he did not make money till week 8.

Patience and perseverance are our greatest attributes here. Next comes all the help we have available to us!

Success will come with your commitment to excellence! Keep on believing!!

I wonder that sometimes too. Just remember that there are a number of successful folks here at WA that can clear things up for you and steer you onto the path to success. You just have to keep going until you make it! Simple as that.

Hey Pete,

I have been here almost a year; but really started learning and working on things since January 2013.

I just looked yesterday on my Amazon.com Affiliate Program Reports and I sold something via one of my Street Articles leading people to my .siterubix website! That's very exciting! Now I only need over 800 people to order something to get my $100 check; however, I did get someone to buy a product I wrote a review on!

I feel that is very impressive! I have been following and doing everything I am being taught!

Just stick with it! Something will happen! Don't hesitate to ask questions! This is an excellent community of helpers!

Hi Pete, I have been here just a couple weeks more than you. I just wanted to add a couple of things.

I have been working on my site for hours a day(since I lost a full time job)-sometimes even all night(a little too much lol)and have not made anything either. I came into this with no experience at all, but I am learning all the time. I expect it will take me a little time as I came in here with no experience. But I do believe that if you are determined and never quit, it has to work at some point and you will make money, even a living at this.

I guess that my reply here is just another kind of "don't give up yada yada" kind of thing, but I truly believe in the WA system. I don't see how it can fail if you follow all the steps and are patient(but I do understand some of us need money now-and that makes it hard-I need it now, but am sacrificing some stuff)

If I find out I am wrong about all of this, I will eat my words, lol. :P

And I don't know what gives me the feeling that WA works, it just feels like it does. I have never had this much faith in any other system, so this is new for me to believe in something so much.

Hang in there. :)

5 weeks! It takes most traditional businesses 3 to 5 years before turning a profit. To quote the great motivational speaker, Anthony Robbins, "We over estimate what we can do in a year, and underestimate what we can do in a decade."

"We underestimate our potential for success and over estimate how quickly we can do it!" - Ryan from Wealthy Affiliate :P

Pete, I can honestly understand your point. I have been at this for over a year already and still haven't made a penny. Although, I measure success in different ways and at this point, although I haven't seen any financial gain, I can certainly say that I am successful so far.

The only kink I can think of , would be in one's thinking. You need to believe that you will be successful - this belief will drive you to success, no matter how long it takes. You are investing your time and building your skills. You are still in the foundation stage, where you are building your platform for revenue. I am also still building my platform - I never expected to earn money quickly and although I got discouraged many times, I never quit.

Keep at it - 5 weeks is a very short period. Think long term. Even if building your online business takes 5 years, will you look back after 5 years and say that the hard work wasn't worth it?

Hi Ryan, all great points! Success is not only gauged by "money" and it takes everyone different amounts of time to build the foundation of their business.

The high level steps are:

Find a niche
Build a site
Get it Ranked to get traffic
Add Affiliate Links
Generate Income
Continue to increase Traffic indefinitely

You're in the building stage still where you're getting your foundation in place. It's ok to take your time, just think of the skills you've learned!

Thanks Carson! The skills are truly priceless :) As a side note (for Pete as well) I've also noticed though that this can be compared to a numbers game - not every visitor will generate income. On the basis of 1 'sale', you might need 20 visitors to actually click on an affiliate link. To get those 20 visitors to click on the link, you might need 500 visitors to your website. [These numbers are thumb sucked, just to illustrate my point]

So, I found that 6 months ago, I was getting about 1 visitor per day from Google. Now, I get at least 20 visitors per day. I'm looking to increase the amount of traffic over the next few months to hopefully 100 per day. This, as far as I can see, will greatly improve my success (financial and otherwise).

The high level steps you mentioned, are very high level - under the 'Get it ranked to get traffic', I have added my own two sub-steps:
- Create quality content
- Create some MORE quality content
When discouragement comes knocking, I create some more content! My niche is self motivation, so this is actually very beneficial to me, like a double edged sword - I get to add content to my site and while developing my content, I send discouragement packing! #giggle

Very well said Ryan!

Keep in mind that if you're getting 20 visits from Google on a daily basis you should be aiming for 10-20% of those people to be clicking on your Affiliate links.

If you're going a full day without any click son your affiliate links then you can always look into why that might be. Lack of relevancy, products may not be aligned, people may not be engaged on your site..

More traffic will help, but with 20 clicks a day you should still be able to get some people clicking over to the affiliate links.

You really do have a great attitude and that in itself will lead to generating income. If you'd like some help with your site, all you need to do is ask! You could blog about what you've been working on and ask for some feedback, I'd be happy to comment ;)

Be patient, sounds like you're doing all the right things so keep working at it. Carson's got a lot of great points below and you need to make sure you follow them. Continue to work on your site with your visitors in mind. We're in this for the long haul, right?

5 weeks is still very early so don't get discouraged.

Have you created your website?
Are you getting ranked?
How many posts have you made?
How much traffic are you getting?

You will be in position to start generating revenue as soon as you start getting traffic to your website. In the beginning it takes some time to get your site up and running. Remember, you are building a REAL business here and you're getting a REAL education here at WA.

When people go to University in the first 5 weeks they will not be earning a dime yet.. Actually someone in University will not likely make anything for 4-5 years. The comparison to University and WA is made to make the point that you need to give yourself some time.

Many folks start generating revenue very quickly but you'll need to have a few fundamentals in place first...mainly your website and some traffic.

You're only just over 1 month into the Premium membership at WA and your in the "setup" stage where you are getting the foundation prepared (your website). You will continue building your website indefinitely and as soon as you start getting visitors, you will be in position to generate revenue.

Keep working on things and let me know about my questions above. I do not anticipate that you are doing anything wrong, or that there are any "kinks".
