Now about Oscar…
I was born in Lima, Peru. I went to a British Private school in Lima, and upon completion, I went to the Agrarian University of Peru for 3 years. In 1961, I immigrated to the United States to pursue further education in the area of Economics. I settled in New York City and worked for a couple of years in the Banking Industry, while I was preparing myself to enter University.
In mid-1963 I received an “invitation” from Uncle Sam. What a surprise! I was being drafted into the US Army. It was when I was going through basic training that J.F. Kennedy was assassinated. I still remember hearing the news as I was on my way to the mess hall for dinner.
I was sent to an army base in Germany a few months before the US entered in the Vietnam War. In 1964, I was involved in a motor vehicle accident while on guard duty in an ammo depot. I lost consciousness and when I came to, after a very strange and vivid experience, my first thought was, “I will live to be 100”. During my eighteen-day recuperation in the hospital, I kept a positive attitude and started to read more than I had ever read up to that time. After that, I have kept on reading books and articles on the brain and on the human mind, two subjects that have interested me very much.
After my discharge, I went back to Peru to work with my father in the family business. In 1968 a military dictator took over, and the country went through lots of changes and reforms. As a consequence, we lost the business. A devastating blow to everyone in my family. However, I was eventually able to secure a bureaucratic position in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. I married my first wife with whom I have two wonderful daughters, and in 1974 immigrated to Canada.
Once in Canada, I was not able to secure a job in the field of Economics and I ended up driving for the Toronto Transit Commission and at the same time attended courses on International Marketing at Seneca College. In 1979, the marriage ended in divorce.
I stayed In Toronto and decided to use my language skills to work with the Spanish community. I acquired certification and accreditation as a Court and Immigration Interpreter. I got certified as a Life Skills Coach, as well as in Conflict Resolution, Mediation and Family Group Conferencing. All of these assisted me to give sound advice and services to the community for the next 25 years. I became Director and represented the “Latino Canadian Community Association”, a not-for-profit organization. As a representative of this NGO, I participated in a series of working sessions on Restorative Justice with other multicultural NGO’s and members of the Justice System including judges, and high-ranking police officials. I continue to serve as a Director on the Board of the Association of Spanish Speaking Seniors of Toronto.
I am now 75 years “young” and when I look back at yesteryear I realize I am on the right path; with a happy, healthy and independent lifestyle. For the last 32 years I have been married to Fran, now also a retired school teacher/ counselor and published author of HOW TO END EXAM ANXIETY. We are the owners of ProBliva USA LLC.
I have kept on learning and practicing methods to keep mind, body and spirit in the best shape. And most important, I looked at what centenarians were doing to achieve longevity.
I will freely share this with you so you can achieve the benefits of successful longevity. It’s not a secret.
• It has to be your GOAL. You must have the “burning” desire to achieve it.
• A complete change of “Lifestyle”.
• Have a purpose in life.
• An aligned mindset.
• An appropriate natural diet.
• An exercise plan.
• A community of like-minded people.
• Positive relationships.
The reality is that the younger you start living a healthy lifestyle the better chances to become a centenarian. However, even at a more mature age any change to the better will extend months and/or years of quality life.
My best wishes and thanks for dropping by!

No probs Oscar and if/when you read my blogs make sure you choose the ones that will help you in conjunction with whatever training you are currently taking.

Also you have been here some time now but you may not be aware of this but it’s a good idea (only if you are interested in your rank within WA) to click the 'Like' icon within a comment if you like it as I have done with yours.

Obviously you don't have to click every single comment or you will be here all day doing nothing else.

But to click the ones you like that are replies to your own comments will be reflected in your WA ranking because it shows you are getting involved with the community.
Enjoy your Monday.

What an inspiring bio, Oscar! You have done so many great things and stayed engaged when others are in their rocking chairs watching the day shows!

I had to come over and check out your profile prior to answering your input for the mentoring group you have signed up for and I sure am glad I did!

No doubt you will add a bunch to what we are entering into with this group program. I thank you for all your service to people over the years, wealth can be measured in so many ways outside of cash...

You have an abundance of wealth and I thank you for being willing to share some of that with us all!

Cheers and have a great day!

Hi Oscar, nice to hear from you. I, Helen from Tasmania, look forward to getting to know you my new WA friend. Sorry about the delay in responding but I am a bit slow at the moment. Trying to do too many things at once.

I left you a comment on your site.

If you have time I would love it if you visited my website and left a comment on a post, any one will do. The site address is fantasy-sci-fi-vision.com

Keep working hard, having fun and don’t forget to ask questions.

A very nice boss once told me, ‘Helen, when you ask a silly question everyone else breathes a collective sigh of relief because they don’t have to!’ And that is so true. No question is silly so ask away.

If I can’t help I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Now let us keep in touch.

Ciao

Wow, Oscar...

Your life story is wonderful...That AHA moment when you woke up and realized that you were going to live to 100 was life-changing it sounds like, and this thread has permeated throughout to the present...

Good on you...

I am not sure if I will live to 100, but I darn sure am going to work to have a fulfilling life no matter how long it may be...I am talking working and staying engaged with something that provides satisfaction, gives me the will to drive on, and helps others in some small way...

It sounds very much like this is how you have shaped your life and path too...From my own experience, this can provide the spark needed to achieve that 100 point as you envisioned so long ago...

Having said that, I am a young 60, so I have a long way to go, and will never catch up to you hehe...So you have to go first, keep on doing what you are doing and enjoy the moments, as I am doing...

Right behind you.. : )

It is great to meet you here and look forward to reading about and applying your insight and wisdom in my own endeavors...There are many others here that will also appreciate your presence...

So about me...

In a few words, I am a wanderer, a risk taker, and a mix between a free spirit and a disciplined planner and doer, have been since a kid, and adventure is my middle name!

I have had the good fortune to meet and work with a lot of really good people in many wonderful places (and some not so nice)...I love people and make time to listen to their stories, that time bit is important, these days too many do not I think

Have a great day!

Cheers!

Hello Oscar, so nice to meet you. You have led quite an interesting life and it sounds like you have found the secret formula to living life well. Hi Connie, Thanks for the follow. I was the guard on a moving Jeep inside an ammo depot and another jeep caused mine to overturn and as far as I can understand I hit the pavement very hard and fainted briefly. So now you know. My book on my "unconscious" experience is on the make. Lots of success to you too.

Sorry, I was just wondering. I had a accident that I fell backwards and hit my head but never unconscious. But, never the less it was serious. So I was just hoping yours wasn't. Long term effect. My is long term. Sometimes. it's best not to remember.
Enjoy your day.
