I lost my ranking but gained so much more!
I just returned from a 2-week family holiday in Bali.
Yep, left the laptop home and switch off all tech. (OK I took my phone, and still checked FB and Insta!) And it was amazing! The timing of our holiday wasn't great as I had just launched my website, but I have set up a great foundation, and worked tirelessly flat out for 3 weeks on the website, while working part-time @ the 9-5 and then juggling the motherhood aswell. So I could handle the 2 weeks off no worries!
But what I wasn't prepared for was the drop in ranking on my WA account!! I went backwards over 8,0000 places! And with my high achieving personality this was pretty tough to stomach when I logged on first thing this morning!!
Then I got distracted and started flicking through my FB posts over the holidays and found so many comments about how much fun we looked like we were having, and we did have an amazing time!! Going on holidays with 3 kids under 6 was no piece of cake, and I can't exactly say I have come back feeling refreshed and relaxed, especially while my 3 year old was vomiting everywhere this morning. But we have become so close as a family! My kids experienced a different culture, and for 2 weeks we spent every second of every day together, the kids have strengthened that sibling bond, and my husband and I worked more than ever like a team.
So this has reminded me of why I initially set out on my affiliate marketing journey, with the goal of making some serious money in order for my family to spend more time together.
I know I will get my ranking back, and hope to improve it considerably, I have refocused my goals, I have created a post on my website since returning, and I am driving traffic to my site. And hopefully as I continue on this path, this once every so often family holiday, where we had so much fun and shared in each others joy, will become a lifestyle in which we can pack up and leave anytime, because my business will be fully online and I can work from anywhere in the world.
So here's to chasing the sun, while enjoying some family fun!

What an enlightening post, good for you leaving all tech behind, excellent.
If this helps, I don't work 'publicly' at weekends at all and don't touch FB, but very hard during the week
I check my Blog stats daily even at weekends and spend time prepping material, if it takes my fancy. Sunday is a no no for work, as its reflection time on the previous 7 days
Your ranking will come back, but family time is valuable and cant be regained...
Well done Nicole. There's an old saying: "Business before pleasure", but I say: "Family before business". You did what you had to do and what many of us should do. I'm glad you had a wonderful time with your family. That definitely gave you rank # 1.
WA gets you nothing other than warm fuzzies. It sounds like your vacation was well worth the time away.
I see you are focusing on content on your site, this is the right focus. This is how you build your business.
Taking time off is good, but it can be difficult to get back, I found. Anyway, good going!
