When I use the new search console it just say my page is already indexed but then takes a week or 2 to rank. Before with Google fetch I would rank sometimes within the hour and

In the way you ask the question, I'll clarify for people who are new to this that indexing and ranking are 2 different processes.

Fetching is solely for indexing the URL in the search engine directory, as others have correctly mentioned. That can happen quickly, often within 24 to 48 hours.

Ranking refers to search positions, which depends on good keywords, SEO and other variables. Google says it has 200 ranking factors. It usually takes longer for a piece of content to be ranked in the top search results. ~Jude

Agreed. But I have an expected area where I’m going to rank at and I’m saying that it takes way longer to fall into that place than previously with Google fetch.

Google never guarantees how long indexing will take.

If indexing is taking longer than usual, maybe try asking at the Google webmaster community. I notice that similar problems were being discussed in May and June. I haven't read the threads but maybe you will find something useful about this issue:

I am experiencing good results with the new council. It seems to be working for me within 24hours on average.

I find google fetch awesome and my post are indexed very quickly every time so no complaints here
Vicki

Ok thanks for letting me know.

When checking what pages people are going to on my site one of them isn’t even a page on my site, it’s mydomain.com/h/54555688

Something like that, what doe

Great question, I have the same thing happening a lot lately. Thank you Jude for answering this!!

There are good and bad bots.

Have you copied that one into your browser to see if it is an actual page that exists on the web? Could it be a redirect?

If it is bad bot traffic (referral spam, scrapers, downloaders, impersonators, etc.) you can:

1. Apply filters in your Google Analytics account. Filtering does not stop the bots but they won't show up in your stats to skew your results.

2. Consider blocking the IP address the bot is emanating from. I would only do that if you are getting hordes of traffic from that source.

3. Be sure to activate the "Block Bad Bots" feature in the All in one SE0 plugin.

4. Consider asking Site Support to take a look at it to check to see if there could be a potential security issue for your site.

~Jude

I tried pulling it up and it isn’t a page. Will definitely check out that feature in all in one, thanks!
