One of the most frequent niche questions I get is about Anime. I guess there's a bunch of anime fans out there, or maybe it's just anime people are comfortable online, so aren't that scared to try out building an online business.

Either way, making a website about anime is definitely a way you can make money online!

My first piece of advice about making an anime affiliate site is to not just pick "anime". Anime is a huge industry, and can be broken down into more focused niches. I'm not a big fan of anime (I do like some!), but I am pretty certain that each person has a specific style or genre they gravitate towards.

Genre Themed Niches

For example, I'm bored to tears watching anime dramas. It just reminds me of boring TV shows like One Tree Hill or The Bachelor where everything is drama and overblown. Bleh.

However, they're producing those shows because people watch them, and they make money. If that's your jam, go for it. Make a website about your favorite anime dramas.

Personally? I love sci-fi animes. Akira. Red Line. Appleseed. Dead Leaves. Cool stuff. There's another niche right there. Sci-Fi Anime reviews.

But these are just genres! Beyond that, how else can we break down anime?

Other Anime Niches

What do people buy related to anime? Crossovers are pretty popular! What about a shirt that reviews show crossover gear?

Collectibles are a thing too. Finding the most unique, rare, and sought-after items and discussing the history of these items (plus where to buy) would definitely be a cool site idea. Ebay has an affiliate program, so you can definitely make money in this niche.

What about games? There are tons of games related to anime that you could test out, review, and promote on a website.

Is there an anime industry in your country? Language specific anime might be something to look into as well.

Ah, another idea - How many anime related conventions are there out there? Do you travel to them and could you do reviews?

Another idea! What about cosplay? Showing people how to make their first cosplay costume, or doing other costume related topics could be interesting as well.

A Niche Is A Group Of People

Here's where I start showing my own lack of knowledge and research - there are probably a hundred other ways to divide anime into a group.

Since anime is your passion, how would you divide people? What are the warring factions of fans, or what group of people could you define based on a specific interest or goal?

What do these groups of people want to do, and how can you help them?

These are all great questions to ask if you want to build an anime-themed affiliate website.

How else could you break down this niche for someone! Let me know in the comments.

I'll refer to this post often when someone asks me about anime and they can browse your answers for website ideas, or suggestions to spark their own ideas.

Niche Suggestions From Comments:

  1. Gundam Models
  2. How To Draw Anime
  3. Kawaii Fashion

Thanks for sharing this Anime breakdown as a niche I never thought about it that way. I will put some more thought into it and do some research

The anime niche isn't for everyone, but if it's your passion, there's lots of way to dig into this market.

Nathaniell excellent point thanks for the response

Very interesting, and broken down in such simplicity. You have my brain thinking out loud Nathaniel. I appreciate this.

ANY product, fandom, or idea can be broken down further into a niche audience!

I love sci-fi animes too. Love those Gundam models and Macross models. :)

Hugh

Gundam models! Another great niche idea.

Drawing anime including digital art. Possibly learning about Japan and cultural references in anime Or learning Japanese.

Great niche suggestions Ayana!

Thanks!

totally like it :3 thank Nathaniell for break it down like that. It's easier to imagine how the website navigates.

The only anime I've watched is The Ghost In The Shell. I've watched a lot of Japanese films and I understand the mentality to a degree.

I'm sure there are many sub-niche areas in the anime corner.

Ever seen the film The Returner?

I haven't seen The Returner. Any good?

I love anime and this has sparked my interest! Hmm....Nice article by the way, very thought provoking.

Cool! Hope you get some good ideas from it.

Interesting article. However wouldn’t it restrict us to many products to promote? Just asking as collectibles either movie, card, or figures are mostly limited editions?

I think there are lots of products to promote even for animes. Unlike the usual movies, anime movies runs in series so you woukd not be lacking of collectibles to promote. Anime fans especially in Japan spend a lot for these collectibles. Moreover, they are high ticket products.

I would think you could make your niche as narrow or as wide as you wish. I would start out narrow and as you gained authority and traffic, broaden your subject matter a little. As an artist myself - I would probably do a niche for drawing or learning to draw anime figures - Shirley

I believe you did a great job helping break down the various anime niches. I would also mention the terms "kawaii", "tsundere", and "yandere".

Maybe Kawaii fashion could be a cool niche!
