My husband and I lived in an efficiency apartment for the past 1 ½ years, in a not so desirable part of town. We needed to save money on rent to pay off medical bills and also, we wanted to save for a nice home.

Earlier this month, we purchased a home in a nice, clean and new retirement community. Last weekend, we moved all our belonging to our new home and yesterday, we finished cleaning our apartment.

As my husband cleaned the stove, (I was so grateful he was willing to clean the fridge and stove – he's definitely a keeper as we will be celebrating our 30th anniversary later this month) I went shopping at the nearest dollar discount store for some items we needed for our new home.

At the check out counter, there was a customer ahead of me. She was purchasing a few things, as well as requesting to return an item. The cashier, in a loud voice, told this customer that she doesn't do returns. She repeated herself (loudly) many times, so that everyone in the store heard her say that she doesn't do returns.

They were short staffed and there only two other employees who were newly hired, and they didn't know how to do returns either. This cashier was a 'manager' (it said so on her name badge) and she even said that she didn't know how she became a manager as she doesn't do returns.

The customer told her that she used to work at this company (different store) and she knew how to do returns and could easily show her how on the cash register. She was kindly willing to help this manager. But this manager refused to listen to her and wasn't willing to learn how to better serve customers.

As I reflected on this incident, I am so grateful for Wealthy Affiliate and this wonderful community. We all have the desire to learn new skills and better ourselves to be successful. And what we are taught, here at Wealthy Affiliate, is that the way to success is by serving others.

This complete training program helps us learn, lesson by lesson. Along the way, we can ask questions and in my experience, there is always someone willing to help us.

That store manager could easily learn how to do returns and how to better serve the customers. There was even a considerate customer who was willing to teach her.

The lesson I learned from our last day at a place where we moved out - to go to a better place - and that 'unwilling to learn' manager and the 'willing to teach' customer can be best expressed from a children's book. . .

“The more that you read, the more things you will know.

The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” - Dr. Seuss

So exciting you are in your new home .. thank you for sharing .. Cheers, William.

Got to love a Dr Seuss quote lol! The 'manager' should try and take a leaf out of his books! :)

I read your title Myra and thought old Dr. Seuss would appear. Gotta love some of the Dr.!

Can't wait to read Dr. Suess to my future grand-daughter, who is due next February!

Awesome!

Best of luck, Myrabeth, and congratulations on reaching a great milestone in your marriage. Isn't it wonderful to be married to your best friend?

Have good life in your new home ;-))

It does not take much to provide the service that will keep people coming back. Thanks Myrabeth.

Congrats on your 30 year anniversary.
