Ignore Your Negative Voice
Have you thought of something incredible, but before you take action, you question yourself?
When I was younger, I dreamed to see the world. That dream just grew in me out of my love for reading. I realized that the only way for the realization of my dream is to become a pilot. So I studied everything about how to become one.
One day , I overheard my family discussing about my dream, not aware that I was on the other room and can hear their conversation. Not one from among my family was supportive of that dream, and pointed out the negative things why I cannot be a pilot, such as my height, and my physical stature, I am only 5 feet tall and 75pounds. That negative conversation imprinted in my brain the negative qualities I have.
Realizing that I don’t have their support, I doubt that it can happen. Therefore , I gave up on that dream.
Several years after, I have read an article about a 4 feet 11 inches, Kathy Hakeem, who has been a pilot for 48 years.
The voice inside our heads can be a powerful tool or a destructive force. It can inspire us to greatness or hold us back from achieving our dreams. Some people have trouble getting started because they know from experience that an inner voice will criticize their every imperfect effort. This negative voice can make us doubt ourselves, feel inadequate, and even lead to depression and anxiety.
Ignoring your negative voice is an essential step towards achieving personal growth and success.
It helps you focus on your strengths ~ You can recognize your unique talents and use them to achieve your goals. Instead of constantly criticizing yourself, you can look for way to improve and build on your strengths.
It boosts your self-confidence ~ When you stop listening to the negative messages in your head, you can start to believe in yourself and your abilities. You can take risks and try new things without the fear of failure holding you back.
It allows you to take action ~ You can take action towards your goals. Instead of getting stuck in a cycle of self-doubt and negativity, you can focus on what you want to achieve and take steps to make it happen. You can break free from the limitations imposed by your negative voice and take charge of your life.
Let go of the negative thoughts as they arise. Seek out people who are supportive and encouraging, and who believe in your abilities. Choose to focus on solutions rather than dwelling on negative thoughts and feelings.

Ignore that negative voice. Told my wife I have been told to ignore her.
She hit me. Lol.
Surround ourselves with positivity and laughter and we won’t fail.
I remember with my son I always supported him with his dreams. He now teaches Astro physics at University and has been published.
Also travelled to Ted as a speaker as well as teaching in Germany.
Does it show I’m very proud of him..
You can still fly, but now you will be flying high at WA.
A bit safer but can take you a lot further.

Excellent as always Maria! We should never let negativity or negative people get in the way of reaching our dreams!!
It's never too late to learn how to be a pilot though.... definitely not a job I ever dreamt about doing... I hate flying!!
Surrounding ourselves with positive thoughts and people will always result in positivity my friend!!
Cheers!!

You are so right about this, Marioi! Sometimes there are things I want to do but don't becuase of that negative voice. It happens in all facets of our lives, and we need to learn to persevere and not always give heed to them!
(for instance, I wanted a beer earlier, and my negative voice piped in, but THIS time, I did not pay it heed! Cheers! 😎🍺)
Have an enjoyable upcoming vacation and thanks for the important message!

It's the same thing either way, so to eliminate, confusion, I simply had a beer, Mario!

I love that little train story, “I think I can.” I struggled as a child with negative thoughts. I never did learn how to remove them until I was in college and started therapy to learn how to conquer them. It was impeding my growth in mathematics. I couldn't pass it because I told myself I couldn’t learn math. I didn't understand it.
I missed out a lot due to my hearing loss. As a child of the ’60s and early ’70s, I had no sign language interpreters. I was not in special ed programs. I was in a regular classroom setting. It wasn't called “mainstreamed” schools back then, either.
The Deaf school program wouldn't accept me because I was hard of hearing and could pass as a person with some residual hearing loss. I had no problems with learning how to read and write. I did well in all subjects except math. I had to get tutors and help to pass my math courses.
I learned from counseling that I deliberately blocked my mind from learning math. I had to retrain my thinking and my attitude and force myself to try to learn math. I failed six times, but I kept going and finally passed with high C and Bs. Interestingly, geometry and other physics courses were easy for me since its logical. Numbers and word problem to solve math was hard for me. I finally did learn.
Everyone of us have dealt with these negative thoughts. It takes a lot of mental training to ignore them and apply the concept of the train story. “I think 🤔 I cant.” Instead of can’t.
Thanks for sharing your story we all have such stories to share here in this space.
Hi Maria. Negative thoughts? I only have one thing to say about them - boot them out and kick 'em out. Negativity befits negativity.

Off-topic - did you read about Pepe!!!! A guy put in $263 and cashed out at over 12 million dollars!!!! We missed out there for sure. Brings tears to my eyes lolz.
Pepe is a meme token, Maria. It has gone down 96% since its high on April 20th and nearly 30% today. Getting in at the right time and placing a rolling take profit would ensure you got out at the right time too ie April 20th.
There will be others.

I'm gutted Maria you saying I abandoned you lolz. I haven't really traded for a while now as I'm just concentrating on my other project and my time is short. Don't worry though - I'll start again soon and you'll be the 1st to know ;-)

Hi Maria,
I've not had much of a problem in my life with self doubt. My problem has been typically the reverse of that with a voice that says you can do it you can do it.
I have noted though that the affliction of self doubt has been strong in those I've allowed close to me during my life, often to an irrational point where looking in from the outside it just doesn't make sense.
I think that is what likely separates folks of accomplishment from the many who don't most often.
It has also been my observation that when group dynamics are involved, it creates chains on others that most will refuse to consider breaking. You mention this in overhearing your own family. The thoughts we embrace (bind) to ourselves become very powerful programs if we aren't careful.
What good fortune you came across the article on Kathy Hakeem and it was powerful enough to break those chains you had embraced. A powerful story of a pivotal point in your life. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Regards,
Jason
I have to suggest when you say
"The biggest heartache of coming across the article of Kathy Hakeem was that should I have not doubted myself and insisted what I want to do, I could have been a pilot now and not a nurse."
is that if you had become a pilot instead it could have been a heartache for so many others instead. You've mentioned previously how many folks have been grateful and made gestures to you later on. They did this because they needed you at a time and you were there in their time of need. There are many in your profession who have cold hearts, so you were at the right place at the right time willing to be the right person who was needed.
“To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world.”
