SEO is Good But Expanding Your Reach with Multiple Platforms is Better
In the world of digital marketing, Mastering SEO was often seen as the Holy Grail of driving traffic to your site. I have preached this with regularity. But today it seems that SEO is hit or miss and will continue to be so until Google can figure out how to provide relevant search results.
So, while SEO is important, relying solely on SEO will leave your content vulnerable to the whims of search engine algorithms. The truth is, that today's competitive landscape demands more than just good SEO. You will need to Master a Multi-platform Strategy that amplifies your SEO reach, engages with diverse audiences, and maximizes your monetization opportunities.
I have created such a system for my everyday use and have found it to be effective.
I will show you how I take my niche and supercharge it by using this multi-platform approach. In doing this, you'll begin to see why SEO is now just another piece of the puzzle and how expanding your presence across platforms will lead to sustained growth and profitability.
My Philosophy for Successful Niche Blogging
Your blog is the cornerstone of your online presence, but it won't sustain itself without promoting it. You know what is coming next. This is my restaurant that opens without any advertising. No one but a few locals will know it exists. It won't stay open for very long at this rate. Your blog is in the same place if you are waiting for Google to rank your SEO efforts.
Do not look to Google - Many new bloggers fail or quit within 90 days simply because they don't promote themselves effectively. Google has basically said that it IGNORES new blogs. What is the point of chasing new blogs that quit within the first 90 days? From a business expense standpoint, I wouldn't want to spend money on ranking new blogs. Would you?
To avoid this fate, you must actively spread the word about your blog and build your audience across multiple platforms.
This is where my multi-platform approach comes in handy. I have given you the pieces of this strategy.
- Medium - The Sidekick for Niche Bloggers
- All Things SEO
- Master Social Media Marketing
Time to put the pieces together in a logical order.
Mastering Multi-Platform Blog Promotion
- Original Content Creation on Your Blog
- Your Wealthy Affiliate blog is the cornerstone of your online presence. It houses your most comprehensive, helpful, and evergreen SEO content. Each post you create is a valuable resource, designed to solve specific problems or provide actionable insights.
- Think of your blog as your unabridged "User's Manual," While this is your best and most complete post, rarely will it rank on Google. Google is too preoccupied with combatting AI SPAM to give you any attention, much less if you are new.
- Adapting and Abridging for Medium
- You have published your masterpiece. It was a labor of love. Now you will need to take that Shakespearian tome and create a concise and engaging "pocket reader". This Readers Digest version will become your "handbook" edition. You are going to post this smaller version on Medium with a link back to your blog. If you are thinking that this is a great opportunity to pull out one of your AI Power Tools, you are correct!
- Doing this will help you gain visibility on Google by leveraging Medium's Domain Authority. This smaller version while not as complete, will rank on Google and provide visibility into your work. Some people will find you in the search results. Others who are not looking may run across your content on social media.
- Free Advertising via Social Media
- All social media outlets are FREE Advertising! FB, IG, X, LI, P, and TT were developed to SHARE! And share we will. I generally attempt to create a message for each image that I use in the post. Five images = Five posts per platform.
- Use your AI Power Tools to craft targeted ads for these different social media platforms. Each platform has a unique audience, similar to different radio stations. So tailor your content accordingly to maximize reach and engagement.
- Deep Dives and Community Building on Substack
- I've launched "Inside Setting Points" on Substack to eventually offer a paid behind-the-scenes content channel. This channel will include a behind-the-scenes look at successful niche blogging, with AI prompts, multi-platform tips, social media strategies, and The Amazing Niche Master for profitable, obscure niches—all with a touch of fun!
- This platform allows for direct communication with your audience in a newsletter-style format, making it ideal for community building and monetization.
Tying all of this into one package is Blogging in 2024.
Building a Sustainable Content Ecosystem
Integrating Wealthy Affiliate, Medium, Substack, and Social Media Platforms into your content strategy creates a well-rounded ecosystem where each platform complements the others. This synergy increases engagement, broadens your reach, and enhances your monetization opportunities.
Let's master the art of multi-platform content strategy together and take your niche blog from ordinary to extraordinary!
Let me know if you currently employ a similar system to expand your reach.
Feel free to connect if you are a member of Medium or my newly minted Substack site. All of my social links are within my WA Profile. I look forward to exchanging ideas with you.

Here is how I flow now...
1, The Blog post is created - My Blog
2, The Readers Digest version is created - Medium Pay Wall w/Free link to my blog
3. The social media posts are created and scheduled. - FB, IG, LI, X, P, TT*, YT
4. NEW - Substack "Secrets" Post created (debating the pay aspect)
*TT - Many people use TikTok. I do not but if you have an account this is another step.
Hope this helps ease you beyond solely on SEO niche blogging.
Excellent approach, Donald.👍👍
SEO is no longer a viable all-in-one solution to drive significant traffic to a site with a low to medium DA and backlinks.
In retrospect, it was never a good strategy because of its inherent vulnerability as a business model.

Frank,
As I watch my SEO keywords, I continually see my Medium posts outranking my blog posts. Even though I know that my blog posts are 100% better.
So to keep my foot on the top spots, I have had to resort to some DA (Parasite) Assistance and live vicariously through Medium until Setting Points Ranks higher.
There are occasional instances of the long-tail keywords in my blogs outranking my Medium posts. Rare but it does happen. And both Medium and my blog on average outrank my LinkedIn posts. I do not have a single instance where LI outranks the other two.
A watchful eye to guide you...

Hi Donald
Yes, parasite SEO is currently yielding positive results in the Google SERPS. Adaptation is the name of the game in online marketing.
Love the image! 😎

Thanks Franks.
What fun is it playing a game where the rules are ALWAYS the same?
Let's change the rules every 90 days for more and exciting fun! MrDon
Hi Donald
Haha, I enjoy changing the rules to mix things up a bit, but Google seems to have taken that to a whole new level. 😎
Rock On 🤘

I am in the begining process and still refining. I will be using LinkedIn and Medium to start.

Hi Don
I am just now starting to put in place a workflow for posting on other platform. I just joined 1 month ago and I have a few blogposts now that I can start to promote.
I started writing on Medium - I have 2 paywalled articles but they are not about my niche. I am not sure my niche is suited for Medium (my blog is about urban homesteading). I am not sure how to pivot my content to make it fit their publications.
Do you happen to have any tips?
Some of these platforms may not be suited for all niches?! I am thinking in my case Twitter - but I might be wrong...
Also the time involvement is a big concern of mine. I write very slowly. Then I have to consider creating at least 5 pins per post at least, multiple IG posts, reels, stories etc, plus the other platforms....this is a lot of work. Do you have any tips about batching content creation?
Lastly, what platform do you use for image generation and how do you write your prompts? I tried different ones - mostly nightcafe and leonardo. But I get weird results, nothing that I can use really.
Thanks a lot!
Time is my biggest impediment as well. But AI is my savior. The big original post is created using our designer. I take that and JUST READ IT. After I have read it, I will write my way through it.
Once I am finished polishing the post with my voice and putting in crosslinks, I go over to Microsoft Designer and create 5~6 images.
I publish the post before adding images. Next, I log in to WordPress and edit the post to add images. The WordPress back end gives me more control over the images.
I hit publish a second time. From here on out everything is AI. I have my "Reader Digest" prompts for Medium, my IG Prompts, my FB prompts, and my LI prompts. and I use Buffer to post to Pinterest.
To answer your other question about Urban Homesteading on MEdium. I have found the Medium audience prefers "personal" stories. How did you make out with... Why this route for that type of story... It is a Green New Deal crowd that would eat up sustainability topics and your tips and tricks.
Time is fleeting it is now 130am... The alarm goes off at 5 am.
MrDon
Any questions feel free to ask.
I write my posts with ChatGPT and Claude, the Author here is not giving me good results, not sure why. The outlines look good but the content is weak.
I just realized yesterday that I did not "humanized" my posts enough I will have to rewrite them. I have 15 so far.
Don't you have to rewrite the article for Medium? I know they prefer personal stories, but I don't have any interesting personal stories to share ...
For the social media, it is the image sourcing and prep that gets me. 5-10 pins per post - they all have to be different images, captions etc. IG wants reels and it is temporary. At least pinterest is permanent...I will have to figure out a process to batch these somehow.
Microsoft Designer seems to produce better results that other generators I tried. But in my niche AI will not cut it. Thanks!
I agree that our AI writer at times is less than stellar on occasion. A lot of times I prefer a more contrarian approach.
Part of my rationale for continually asking for the ability to keep and tweak the outlines after a post is written.
Have you had a chance to read my review of all 5 AI writers that I use? It is a great rundown of the AI voices and asks which is "Most Human"?
Prior to our AI writer I created prompts for outlines and writing out a post that ranks.
I default to them when our authors swing and miss.
For Medium, it is a minimal rewrite. I add antidotes to keep it human. I would disagree with not having interesting stories. Imagine the last time you made a mistake trying to grow something on the deck that took over half the deck!
Humorous tips and tricks learned through error is a great story. Wins also are a great story.
For IG and social media outlets, try asking ChatGPT to create a post for the section that houses the image. Once it creates the post, turn around and ask it to use the same info for a FB post, the use the same for LinkedIn.
In 15min you have all 5 created. Time is 5x 15 equals 75min for 5 posts.
Time is fleeting, and limited. I have streamlined just about every process, and getting better everyday.
We will be successful, one blog at a time. Keep the faith.
