What are the your pros & cons?

What are your recommended best practices for using it?

I was actually going to just last week, but then found out that the admin from /IAMA got nixed which had a lot of users flocking to voat.co.. "alternatives to reddit" was a trending topic in Google last week to. Voat.co was hard to even access because of all the unexpected traffic

So, are you on voat.co now?
What are the your pros & cons?

The thing about voat.co is that it literally mirrors reddit. And the thing about *that* is that basically you may want to have a very clever title. I've never posted my content, but had never considered it until last week when I saw an article stating that it was a good idea for getting your content/webpage out there (But then I logged into reddit after not having done so in months and that's when I found out that it was literally destroying itself.). The idea that I got from the article, though, stated that you have to have a post title that will draw people in. That's pretty much how reddit worked, too. BUT! Depending on your niche, you may be able to find a subverse (that's what they're called on voat.co , but they're the same thing as "subreddits") that would be perfect for posting to. For example, if you had a website dedicated to gaming, then there is a gaming subverse that you could post your content to. Once the content has been posted, people can upvote or downvote your post. the more upvotes you get, the more people are going to really get a chance to see it because it may end up on the "Hot" page. People were very opinionated (a very good thing at times!) on reddit, but I was always afraid that someone would downvote me to the grave or something, because while it doesn't seem as harsh as some other forums, there's always a chance of someone being really mean. So, whenever I found out about reddit's impending death, and voat.co and all of that, I took a step back and decided that I personally needed to wait until I've written more relevant content before I go posting anything. But I think that if you wanted to post your content, you would want to just have an eye-catching title, and a link to your site within the post. As I said before, voat.co is really mirrored to seem kind of like reddit... so, with that being said, tread carefully. There are a lot of subverses, and just by looking at some of those, I'm wondering if it's going to be more judgmental than reddit was (I mean.. there's one for fat shaming.. C'MON!). To be fair, though, reddit had some really out thee subreddits, too. I don't remember seeing one for fat shaming, but I wouldn't doubt if there were one.. It does, however, bother me that the /fatpeoplehate subverse is a POPULAR subverse, though.
I'm sorry that this post is forever and five years long.. but the point to all this is to tread carefully, and as a matter of fact, go ahead and sign up for voat.co, browse around and see if that's really the kind of audience you'd want and a place where you'd want to be. There may be more differences than I can think of. Give me a holler if you have any more questions :)

Thank you so much for this answer. It actually does clarify my thoughts on this type of social media forum... In essence it feels like shooting blood at cranky sharks and waiting for them to send back complaints about the quality of the blood.
Feedback i've received from others about Reddit, is it is very, very subjective and critical... very little constructive criticism can be found there.
Sadly, no one has a good word for it.
From your description, it sounds like voat is the same.
I'll keep looking to more professional forums.

Blessings,
M.

What are the your pros & cons?

What are your recommended best practices for using it?

Practices? Every time I create a new blog post on my site, I submit the link to Digg. I do the same for StumbleUpon, which allows me to add keywords and a description.

That is all. For Digg, I just copy and past the link, click "submit" and wait for them to say thanks. I only use it for new blog posts.

It has nothing to do with Akismet.

You mention in this thread Chris Gooden's WA post and that is good information indeed but he is talking about "ranking".

However, you are asking about your site not being "indexed". Being "indexed" and being "ranked" are two different things. A site must be first indexed and only after that can it be ranked.

What are the URLs of the sites that you say are not "indexed" yet. I can take a look to see if I can spot the issue.

~Jude

It is because you do not have a sitemap for those sites.

1. First, go to the general settings in your All in one SEO [AIO] plugin and make sure that you have ticked the little boxes next to 'create compressed sitemap' and 'dynamically generate sitemap'.

2. The sitemap is automatically created when the Sitemap feature is activated/turned on in the All in One SEO plugin. Go to the Manage Features section and make sure XML sitemaps is activated.

3. Within the AIO plugin, go to the XML Sitemap menu. The top line reads: "Please review your settings below and click Update Sitemap to build your sitemap..:

Click on the Update Sitemap link - that will cause the search bot to come around to crawl your site. It could take a day

4. In General Settings > Reading, make sure you have NOT ticked the little box that asks Google not to index the site. The box should be blank.

If you have any other plugin on your site that creates sitemaps, such as Google XML, make sure it is deactivated. You cannot have two sitemap creation functions on your site at the same time as one will interfere with the other.

Do this for all of your sites, including the Success site.

Let us know if this helped. If it didn't, we can do something else.

~Jude

Thank you Jude.
!- I don't have the options for create compressed sitemap' and 'dynamically generate sitemap'. in the general settings of my SEO plug-in.

However, I went to my Manage Features and activated the XML sitemap on each.

It said i didn't notify Google or Bing. Should I be checking those boxes?

Should I also be activating the other features in my Manage Features?

M.

Look in the XML Sitemap settings. I have attached an image of mine. Yes, check notify Google and Bing.

In the Feature Manager, activate these:

XML Sitemaps
Social Meta
Robots.tx
Bad Bot Blocker
Performance

~Jude

Excellent! Thank you so much. All done, now what should I expect?

Unfortunately, I get an error message:

XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: http://yougottareadthis.siterubix.com/sitemap.xml
Line Number 1, Column 1:

This error repeats on all of your sites.

Make sure you do not have any other sitemap plugins such as XML Google Sitemaps, Yoast, or other.

Then go to the AIO Feature Manager, deactivate sitemaps, and then reactivate it again.

Click the Update link in the XML sitemaps to update it.

Then type this in the address bar:

http://yougottareadthis.siterubix.com/sitemap.xml

If the sitemap does not show, maybe the /sitemap.xml extension is not showing the wp-content path correctly, or there is a theme or plugin compatibility issue, or there is a bug in the URL rewrite.

If the sitemap does not appear when you type that into the browser address bar, put in a support ticket and ask them to check why you are getting that XML Parsing Error on all of your sites. ~Jude

Hu June,
you are so kind with your time and help, but I just don't understand.

I don't see any indication of having any other plugins.

Frankly, I don't know where the address bar you are referring to is either. Quite a bit of this is right over my head.

Where do I go to ask for support?

sometimes the system sneezes and misses things.

How do I do that?

Have you submitted the others to Google Webmaster Tools?

???? I guess not. Was that part of the "Getting Started" training?

I am not quite clear what you are asking. If you transferred your rubix site to a bought domain, the rubix site technically does not exist anymore. Nobody can see it but you, due to the redirect that takes place.

John

I haven't transferred them yet.
One of the sites I created under siterubix, success.siterubix.com shows that it was indexed right away.
I was wondering why the other four siterubix sites I created didn't.
Its' ok, I think I got a better picture of the why from Chris Gooden's recent blog.

Not sure what is up with that either. I have had a siterubix site as well and it is not indexed either. But this is not a problem for me as it is only a test site.

Are you suggesting the siterubix sites are only test sites?

No...you can use it for a regular site, thats just how I use siterubix. :)

Just keep with the most recent first and work you way back. Some you will definitely not get to, but that is alright. Focusing on the training should be your number 1 priority. Thank you, Nathaniel. I'll probably get to that at some point in the future. It's a valuable suggestion.

I wish there was a way to keep up with my WA inbox but I can't. Also, every minute I spend on WA email is another minute taken away from working on my online business.

I like to use moderation. I limit the time I spend attending to WA email. An hour or so in the morning while sipping on my gourmet cup of coffee. Not really. I just like to doctor my coffee with 1/2 & 1/2. I always thank new followers. I do check comments and likes where I have posted another comment. Sometimes folks will write something besides liking my extensive wisdom.

I'm no guru so I browse the questions and IF I have time then I will see if I can help.

I do not like the anxiety and stress of seeing a bazillion WA emails in my inbox so I try to not keep an email for more than 24 hours unless it seems super important.

Last, I have my grandson check in on me and if I'm on WA for too long then he has permission to hit me on the head and say, "get off WA, grampa."

Now, I need to go and attend to my websites.

Thnx Mike! Your advice is well received and very welcome!
m.

Wimp, take your coffee black. This will save valuable seconds on pouring the half and half!

Good grief, why didn't I think of that ???????

You have got to become a WA trainer with sage advice like that, LOL

I do the same as bill I limit myself to about an hour in the morning then an hour or so in the evening if I read and answered everything I would never get any work done.

Mille Gracie, Bella!
M.

If you read everything you will never get any work done. I try to limit WA to an hour a day including studying the lessons. It is hard because there is so much worthwhile stuff here. I learn a lot just by looking at answers to questions. I only respond when I think I can help someone with a problem. You have to strike balance between WA, your business and the rest of your life.

Good advice!
M.

My first priority is to get my website up and running. I normally do the lessons every day. I am now at Level 4 and will work through those till the next lesson. I listen to Jays tutorials over the weekend -its a must.

With regard to answering members emails - I normally spend at least 40 - 50 minutes and that I only answer at night. What I cant reply to I reply the following night. You don't have to answer every email. See my blog on whats your priority . Trust that helps

just to echo what has already been said, you have to choose what you will read and what you wont

ultimately it is up to you to select what you want to read

if you happen to miss something that is important to you, don't worry, it will likely make its way back to you again at another time!

all the best,

good faith in the process message... I'll take it!

MPerron, just eliminate from reading. Othervise you will be lost like many already are. Pick subject, and keep learnig in this field now. And more later. I just got same dilemma.
Wojtek

Thank you, Wotjek.
It's not in my nature to ignore information... hee hee.
I will find a balance eventually.
M.

I usually just separate the 'inspirational' stuff from the 'nuts and bolts' and delete the inspirational stuff. My specific needs are the training and tools, so I only open these up to read. After a while ya' get used to who writes what type of posts and it gets easier to go through your in box a lot quicker!

That makes sense... I'll keep plugging forward then!
M.

I hear you M., I think you have to just delegate your time. Pick and choose which files really are worth the read. Otherwise it just get's too time consuming.
When I write an article, I don't even check my email until I'm done, then address it at a latter time, etc.
