Long Articles: The Key To Success?

Hi, fellow WA members!

I recently read that the length of the articles we write on our blogs is a key factor to rank well in Google. The average length of a blog post is usually between 500 to 1,000 words, so what can happen if we come up with a 2,000-3,000 words long article, optimized with proper keywords, can we really stand above the competition?

I'm about to write a 2,000+ article for my blog to test this new strategy, with some low competition keywords.

What do you think?

Truthfully it is a double edged sword.

Meaning, it does help to rank better but you risk of losing the person's attention by the time they read the 2,000 to 3,000 word article.

The sad part of the internet these days is that it is lazy so no one likes to read, they tend to scan the content and tend to be more attentive to videos.

Regardless of how badly the video is, they will click to watch it so I would say if you are writing long articles such as 2,000 to 3,000 words then add a video to keep their attention.

Google wants to give the best value to people but they have no understanding that people are internet lazy these days so they tend to watch videos.

Although, Google did purchase YouTube....they still use keywords for the videos.

This is just my own opinion so take it for what you will, hope it helps.

My own experience with long articles is generally positive. I've found that I rank for more keyword phrases due to the high volume of content.

I know many people express concern that the average reader won't stay to read 2,000 words. That's why you put a call to action in long before the end of the page.

Good luck

What i would say is write some thing, but remember that most people dont like to read very long articles. I started about 5 months ago and my few articles have been under a 1000.Make sure your article make sense and it grips your readers attention.

Keep us updated on how the extra long article works out.

In order to be effective, the posts will need to keep the readers attention.

A lot of white space, headlines and images help.

I have a hard time reading long posts myself. I just skim the content looking for the information I need.
