Writing time

One of my favorite diversions is fantasy writing.

I'm spending a bit less time in the forum lately. My main interest is exploring writing assignments with Writers' Digest. The genre of interest is fantasy to include horror and science fiction.

I've written a 500 word outline today on a relatively distopian horror based novel based on fantasy creation. It's fun to try something new and build at it. In the week to come I will be putting together an escapist novel based on a writer's digest course by Philip Athans. He is a student of HP Lovecraft and Steven King's works. My research is turning up some interesting facts that are already tearing my socks off.

This genre specializes in the unknown and unexpected. These are unusual qualities that prized customers and marketers look for. My hope is to edify myself and the Wealthy Affiliate community with my gained writing expertise. I will report out on my findings when the assignment is over next week!

One of the newest things I've discovered in the course of writing this post is the affiliate elements of record. These appear when putting in tags for the post. There are worlds to discover out there!

Mike, tks to share . Good luck

Mike, it's great to make a deviation and do some fun writing.
Go for it and enjoy the experience.
Joe

Have fun with your new experience Mike.

Derek

Enjoy the experience Mike. So much freedom with those genres.

I do think that HP Lovecraft is often overlooked when it comes to horror stories. Pulp fiction magazines such as Weird Tales and Astounding Stories had some absolute gems, very entertaining.

I am currently re-reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series.

Has to be my all time favourite series. I've also enjoyed the associated spin-offs, that dip in and out of Roland's world. 'Hearts In Atlantis' is also a top ten. The 'Talisman' and 'Black House' I have read more than once.

Have you seen the Dark Tower movie? Very disappointing, bears little relation to the books.

I have and you're right. I'm not sure why though, there's enough material in the first book for a trilogy. After watching 'True Detective' and 'Luther' it was even more disappointing. Shame, with such good material, they could have done better.

I read every chapter in the dark tower, I find it interesting he devolves into a "maybe this time" time spiral loop in the end plot!. You're rereading it. Roland is reliving it!

Again and again and again.....

Not necessarily A story needs a twist of exit hope! And it makes an infinite path to profitable sequels!

You are indeed correct and I stand corrected. I had overlooked Roland returning to the desert with 'The Horn of Eld' unlike in previous times. Maybe there is hope for him after all, not sure it will be in the 'film' version though.

I live Sci Fi Michael. The only thing that saddens me is that today they include horror under Sci Fi. There certainly are worlds to discover. I think that's what makes this genre as well exciting as WA. Jik

I like Stephen King. Look forward to hearing more.
Have a great week,
Mickey

Sounds exciting. I'm looking forward to your reports!

Seems like a fun project. Enjoy
